There's always someone: on a ship, driving on the highway, stop signs, grocery store, etc, etc, etc.

On one cruise I was standing in the Elite/Suite line at Pax Svcs along with several others. A man walked up & got in the front of the line. I said, "the back of the line is over there" (maybe 4 others in line with me). His response was, "I'm Elite". To which I said, "so are we!". He stayed in the front of the line.

Guess he was more Elite than the rest of us.🤬

I had someone do that in the dining room line.  I called him out on it LOUDLY.  He seemed surprised I said something, like it was normal to line cut.

In your situation, I would have stepped in front of him and invited everyone originally behind you to do the same.

The max number of people on an elevator is only a recommendation.

There's not much you can do if more people decide to get on other than get off.

Why yes there is something you can do. We stand at the front and refuse to move and allow inconsiderate people on. Easy peasy.

There are notices posted by each elevator that passengers should limit the number to six in elevators.

I am very disappointed to see some people trying to squash either friends or relative strangers into this limited space. When asked to follow the rule of six, some people tut and mutter thinking they are above the rules. I have asked on several occasions that the number is limited, only to feel I am asking for something that is ridiculous and that I am in the wrong.

Nobody is above the rules and more to the point, nobody wants to contract COVID !!!!!

It’s not worth arguing with anyone.  This happens to us daily and when it does then we exit the elevator and wait for the next one.

Interesting.  We were on the Majestic  March 5-19 and people were packing the elevators and maybe 10% wearing masks.

This is the same as the Enchanted since Mar 10 except for this trip where slightly more people are wearing masks.

One technique that some people try is to quickly close the doors as soon as they open so no one else can get on. 😄

The outside button overrides the shut door button inside, some are smart to this.

I've used it many a time especially when the door chime doesn't work or the music is to loud to hear the doors open.

It still provides enough time to get to the elevator before they can close again.

We were on an elevator 4 people all masked, and  door opens and 2 really heavy people tried to get on without masks and the elevator door kept beeping because the weight was too much!LOL. They were embarrassed and quickly got off! First time I ever saw that on any cruise elevator!

I've seen it happen (but not on our January and March cruises) numerous times, especially after the show gets out or after disembarking from the tenders  But it has always taken more than 6 people to set off the alarm.  The most egregious incident was a full elevator on deck 4 with the door closing when 2 men pushed on.  Just as someone said it was too crowded the alarm started.  Both men didn't move an inch but argued with each other..  Passengers told them they had to get off and all they did was look around.  Finally one got off and the other still didn't move.  The alarm did not stop.  By this time everyone in the elevator was saying - some more politely than others - that he wasn't going anywhere and nor were we.  He was finally convinced and backed out without a word of apology and not even the good graces to look sheepish.

Tough to do when you're already on it and the mob comes tumbling in on the next stop.

In your case you mask up and when you reach your floor you use the hand wash outside the elevator.  Stopping rude passengers from doing rude things or people ignoring the rules will never end.  You lower your expectations and do what's best for yourself and your health.

If you have entitled passengers cutting the line or forcing their way into an elevator, just start coughing loudly and watch what happens!

That's also very effective to keep away from you in the Show lounge. 😁

If you want to be absoultly sure you don’t get sick from overcrowing on a cruise ship, you need to not cruise on a ship.  There are no guarantees in life, and none on a ship, as there will be crowds throughout.  My government said that masks will keep us safe, then a shot or two will keep us safe, then keep a distance from another person, then a combination of two or three things,  now saying nothing will be totally effective. Complaining here or anywhere will not change a thing.

Perhaps the stairs would be an option for those that are concerned about riding an elevator with their fellow passengers....

When on the Princess Sky in March, we would take the stairs often and we commented that this was the only place we never ran into a passenger.  Very quiet and "safe" for sure!

(For those that are concerned about Covid and their health, head to the stairs and be safe and healthy!)

On the Enchanted last month a very entitled lady grilled a man who was at the elite desk in guest services.  As he stepped to the desk she shouted that it was for elites only.  He replied that he is elite.  As we were walking away she was still questioning him in a very rude tone and asking him for proof.  I was expecting her to ask if he knew the official elite handshake before she left him alone.  Also they were the only ones there so she had her choice of people to help her.   Maybe someone should explain to her that there are lots of elites on most cruises now.--and to myob.

I have a good one!!!!

We we’re on Ruby 3/8-3/27! All I can say as a first time Princess Cruiser but not from cruising and last on Princess. ( Long story)  Our lines are Oceania and HAL.  We were on an elevator 4 people all masked, and  door opens and 2 really heavy people tried to get on without masks and the elevator door kept beeping because the weight was too much!LOL. They were embarrassed and quickly got off! First time I ever saw that on any cruise elevator!

That's interesting, I would think something is wrong with that elevator?  I'm a very heavy person and my wife is heavy too (though not very heavy, like me) and we've never seen the weight alarms go off, even when an elevator was stuffed to the gills.

I can assure you that all elevators will sound an alarm when weight restrictions have been exceeded.  This is a required safety feature, not just on cruiseships.

About ten years ago we were on a transatlantic and early in the morning we were to pass the Rock of Gibraltar.  I guess breakfast wasn't being served yet and it seemed like "the entire" ship was in line for coffee (self serve).

Well this guy barges to the front of the line and says, "well I have my own cup so I can get in the front of the line."  I was seriously expecting a riot or for someone to pull out a gun!  It was absolutely crazy!

And after all that it was too cloudy to see anything.

Maybe some ships have adjusted to account for reduced capacity.

just checked a sky elevator 22pax 1650kg average 75kg.

6 pax av would be 450kg which is low a more sensible average would be closer to 100kg(220lb) and add a bit let's go with 800kg.

That could solve some overcrowding still allowing for a range

I was thinking of spraying mace would be an efficient way, but your solution seems better as mine would probably get us kicked off the ship. 😉

There are just clueless people in this world.  I am standing in a line at the casino cashier's window.  Up walks this lady as if I am invisible.  I, being the demure, unprovocative passenger I am....lol, did not confront her.  Would it have mattered, no.  Lucky for her I was in one of my better moods.  But I do think the cashier should have said something.

I’m thinking that maybe she didn’t realize that there was a line.  The way the line is on the Discovery you can’t tell if someone is just hanging out by the slots…. I hope it wasn’t me🤣🤣🤣
