I know its been awhile and I wanted to stop in and say hello, I had been thinking about the group for the last couple of weeks.  I  hope you are all having a great summer and enjoying your cruises.

Dear Dad is almost 100% bedridden now.  There's been a couple of hospital stays the last few months, mainly because of BP spikes caused by his kidney disease; but the heat of summer is not helping either, these little air conditioners can only do so much.  There's a terrible nursing shortage going on and that's made receiving the at home care he needs to be a lengthy process, I'm trying to be patient.  It's possible assisted living or a nursing facility is in his future, I have mixed feelings about it, so I don't know yet; in a lot of ways I'm providing him with assisted living already and the longer I can do it the more money we'll save.  However, having a residence with so many stairs is a major issue, each time I have to call 911 it takes 4 to 6 medics to safely get him in/out of the house and into the aid car.  I feel like there could be a real problem in an emergency requiring us to vacate the premises.

I really wish I had better things to share, but so many things are on hold, caregiving takes time, and I always seem to be out of it by the end of each day.  If I could buy time, I would!

~Bruno

Bless you, Bruno, for being there for him.   It will get to the point where the care he needs is more than you can give.  If he is almost 100% bedridden, I am guessing it will be the nursing facility.  It isn't an easy decision nor an easy move, but for his safety and yours, one that may be necessary.  I hope you can get some occasional respite.  Caregiving is intense and it is as hard on the caregiver as it is on the person being cared for.   I'll keep you in my thoughts and send you virtual hugs.

Good to hear from you Bruno.

Sorry to hear  about your dad's current health issues.

You are doing the right thing by looking after your dad at home and I'm sure he appreciates it.

Best wishes from Pauline and I.

Graham.

Bruno @atexsixI'm sorry to hear of your DD's decline in health these past months.  It's very difficult taking care of a 100% bedridden patient so you must be exhausted.  Praying for you both as you deal with everything.🙏

And very sad news to hear about Olivia Newton John.  Only 73 years old.  May she RIP.🙏

Just in and cooling down after yard work. My was it humid! My hair is soaked.

Sad news about Olivia Newton John. Also David McCullough died. He was a prolific writer. I met him many years ago. And of course had to read The Path Between the Seas after my Panama Canal cruise. Since he was from here, one of our bridges is named after him.

@aliaschief Great photos from your trip.

@sailingdutchy Thanks for the wonderful pictures from Indonesia. It looks like a wonderful visit.

@grapau27 I'm sure it was a fun dinner with Sarah. And how nice of you to take her food and goodies.

@StLouisCruisers I'm glad you made it safely. It's always more fun watching when you know there's the outcome you want!

@atexsix Bruno, that's a tough situation you're in. Decisions aren't easy, but I'm sure you'll do what's best for both of you. Hugs.

Currently on a break between jobs.  Lots to catch up with!

@sailingdutchyAbsolutely wonderful pictures, thank you so much for sharing.

@grapau27Thank you for the food porn.  It is you that is eating all that steak?  Right?

@atexsixI'm so sorry to read about your Dad's condition.  I hope that you are getting breaks, and that someone will come in and help you out.  I was my fathers care taker, but he ended up in a nursing facility, where he was quite happy and well taken care of.  But he only lived for three more weeks after he was placed there full time.  My heart goes out to you.

@4966and556 Perhaps your neighbors didn't like you leaving the veggies on the hot tub lid because they didn't like steamed veggies?

@StLouisCruisersSadie is running around to celebrate International cat day.  That and the fact that she's a puppy.  Bless her puppiness.

@dfishYour previous hair coloring was an inspiration for me.  This is what happened.  During the first two years of Covid, when my hair was getting too long, I would pull it up in a rubber band,  and then another rubber band, and then a third rubber band on the top of my head.    Cut at the third rubber band, and if it was still too long, the second rubber band.  I guess the other day I couldn't find the top of my head, and when I cut, I cut all the front of my hair, and some from the top, but nothing from the back.  I looked like one of the three stooges.  So I put my big girl pants on and headed to Super Cuts.  I told her what I did, and took my hair down, and she said "oh my."  Plopped me in the chair, and said "I haven't seen you in two years, weren't you going to add some color? " I said yes, but our cruise was cancelled, and since I sit at home, I don't really need the color.  "When is your next cruise?"  35 days,  And out came the color.  I said just the tips, and she said of course, and now, I have blue hair...  and once she was done with the coloring and the wash, and then came the rest of the hair cut, I ended up with a BOB of blue hair.

Dh promises to take a picture so that I can post it.  I think everyone deserves a good laugh these days.

I am sorry that my picture of Fawn was sideways.  We live on a hill, but it's not that extreme.  My BFF took the picture when he was down here in May.  If he didn't send me pictures, I would have no way to post them.

I am loving everyone's cats today (and every day)

Hello everyone.

I have not read any of the posts yet but figured I should post.

i had a long day at the Mayo Clinic starting at 7 am this morning.  At one point I had two appointments at the same time in two different buildings. I felt like I was running a marathon from one building to another but I did finally get to all my appointments. Got back to the hotel at 3:30 pm.

For the most part the results were pretty good.

The best part is that on Friday I will be taking my last dose of Prednisone.  YIPPIE!  i cannot tell you how happy this makes me.

In speaking to my PCP about my contracting Covid and how it was more severe than DH, he pointed out that I have been taking Prednisone, which suppresses the immune system.  He said it also explains why I may have contracted it so easily.

There are some things I need to work on but for the most part, I am doing okay.  I do have to see the hand surgeon on Sept. 22.  At that point we will discuss Carpal Tunnel Surgery.

This afternoon we went to Seasons 52 for dinner. Very enjoyable.  Not having one near us, we took advantage of the opportunity to have a great dinner.

Tomorrow we will head home after stopping at Costco.

Hope to be home by the early afternoon.

Hope everyone had a great day.

I may post again if I get a chance to read the posts.  I am also trying to follow the BREAKING NEWS!

God Bless.

Terri

i have now read through all the posts.

Thank you all for the lovely photos of the Cats.  i like cats but don’t have any and never did.

i like zucchini but can’t grow some because of living on a golf course.  However, if someone left some on our front porch I would be thrilled.  Until then, there is a farmers market.

Like chicken stir fry, but not tonight.

Like the quote.

Thank you Rich for the Fleet Report and The Daily, and Roy for the Cares and Cheers list.

@smitty34877 I am glad you and your family are getting your appetites back.  Good sign.

@StLouisCruisersSafe travels and good times with your family.

@marshhawk sorry DH has mouth pain again.  Love the blue hair.

@atexsixBruno, I am sorry to hear of DD is now almost totally bedridden.  You are a good son and I know how hard this is on you having had to do this with my mom. God Bless you and DD.

I will pass on the drink and the wine.

Have not been to the destination.

I hope everyone had a great day and I enjoyed all the photos of cats and destinations.

God Bless,

Terri

@dfishit was your bravery that got me motivated. She said that it was perfect as my hair didn't need to be bleached to white, it was already there...I think she should have given me a discount though.  I may do it again before the trip to Europe next year, but it may be old hat there by then, and I really would stick out like a tourist.  Plus anything that costs more than 200 dollars really must be thought out, I had no idea it was going to be that much.  Luckily DH was sitting in the car, with his debit card, of course I will pay him back for the balance, but I like it, he likes it, so all is well.

Greetings on this winter day with temperature  6 C.  Woke to see a little snow this morning, but sun soon arrived.

Thanks Rich @richwmnfor the Fleet/Daily and to Roy  @rafinmd for the Care and Celebration Lists.

Thanks for the food and drink recipes.

Thanks to @aliaschief and to @sailingdutchy for the photos they shared today.

The ruler of this home, thinks that International cat day should be every day, she is  busy having a big sleep lying in the sunshine.  Thanks to those who have shared photos of their cats.

Stay safe, take care everyone.

@Cruising-alongYou might want to wait until Wednesday to make your jam. High temp. is predicted to be 73.  Maybe even a bit of rain!

Thanks Susie -- even thunderstorms predicted here in Lake Stevens on Wednesday -- hmm, now I'm thinking what if the power went out in the middle of making jam!

Tomorrow here in Lake Stevens will be not a lot warmer than Wednesday,  76 (7 degrees cooler than today!)  so I think I'll stick to that plan.  I really need Wednesday to rest up and do nothing before having the grandsons here overnight the next day.  (I do hope we get that rain!)

Haven’t been here on the Fleet Report and Daily for over a month. I miss you all. I’ll try to get here more often now that my Diamond Princess cruise was cancelled. 😭

It’s probably all my fault. I just received my duck tags today. My Breakaway cruise was cancelled this past Jan right after I got those duck tags. 🫤

My caregiving responsibilities have not reached the level of yours @atexsix , but I understand what you said and can hear the sighs you likely exhale at the end of the day on those days that you do find the time to breathe.

I pray you can find moments to care for yourself as you care for your dad.

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for the welcome back.  We had a good week at camp with only a few minor "owies"!  Always a good camp week when I don't need to call a parent or transport someone for medical care!

And the important thing is the kids all seemed to have a good time, we work real hard to see that all kids are included and no one is left out!

Thank you for the well wishes for my Dad and son.  Son and family all ended up with Covid, but are recovering nicely.  The care takers I had lined up to help with Dad while I was gone, worked well (his wife is there to supervise).

Good day to celebrate!  We have always had a cat or 2 that own us.  Boots is 18 and getting frail, sleeps most of the time now.  Princess is 5 and her name fits her attitude!

Zucchini day here I grated up 3 oversized ones that were given too me, tomorrow will make some zucchini bread and cookies it freezes well.  Also going to try a new recipe for zucchini fritters for dinner, will let you know if it is a repeat!

@atexsix  I am sorry to hear your Dad is not doing well (hugs to you for caring for him).  As a caretaker I was on the fence about leaving for a week for camp, I am glad I was able too, it gave me time to "recharge" a bit.  The caretakers are working out for the moment, but I am now exploring options as for Dad's safety, I may need to move him into assisted/nursing home before much longer.  Just wish I had a crystal ball to tell me the right/best thing to do.

thank you those that are posting your port pictures!  Love seeing them!

Denise
