Flying L.A. to Boston Thu morning @ 0830 Hrs. on an American Airlines A321

Flying First Class!  That's the way to go!  Thanks for your willingness to "bring us along" and am looking forward to your reports.  Have sailed twice on Zaandam; one of her first cruises in the Caribbean and then on a South America/Antarctica cruise.  Love the ship as well as the music theme decor.  Friends who sailed with me on that first cruise were newly weds and are almost certain that their first son was conceived during that cruise.

Happy Anniversary on the 13th!

Looking forward to following along, and wishing you a happy anniversary! The Zaandam repo in October 2019 Montreal to Fll was our last cruise before Covid, and truly one of our best! We didn’t get to Boston (on the bucket list) but loved the eastern Canadian ports. Having lived out west all our lives we had never seen this part of the country (shameful, I know). Can’t wait to go back.

We did the 10 day version of this a few years back starting in New York.  Loved the cruise.  Have a great time & happy anniversary.  We are currently in Quebec visiting our daughter & little grandkids-weather has been sporadic with hot & humid, to thunder & rain.  Haven’t been on the Zaandam for quite a few years but loved the ship.

Friday, 12 Aug 22 - Doing us some Beantown exploring

After consuming the complimentary breakfast at the Boston Logan Embassy Suites, we grabbed a cab to Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall. We then  wound up exploring Boston (so much history!!) via one of the trolley companies that offer narrated tours of the "cradle of liberty" from an open air trolley. There were nine stops at places like the aforementioned Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, the New England Aquarium, Boston's North End, the Paul Revere House, the Boston Common and the Swan boats, the harbor, the USS Constitution aka "Old Ironsides" (just returning today from drydock), the Bunker Hill Monument, Beacon Hill, and more. You can get off the trolley at each stop, view the sights and, when done, get back on the continuous loop. Great way to see the city!

The entire loop took about an hour or so until we were back at stop #6, our starting point, and time for lunch. We found Mija Cantina & Tequila Bar outside Quincy Market for a nice lunch. Back on the trolley afterwards for more sights of this great historical city.

Around 3:30 PM, we tried to hail down a cab but were unsuccessful. Even a phone call to one of the cab companies was answered with a "Sorry Sir, I have nothing for you!" What to do? We wound up walking the short distance to the Bostonian Hotel where one of the nice doormen got us a private car and driver. This turned out to be another "John" with a comfy Toyota Highlander SUV. John, an interesting guy (grew up with, and still good friends of, Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 Winter Olympics United States national hockey team that defeated the Soviet team in the famous "Miracle on Ice") with a wicked sense of humor, whisked us back to the ES in somewhat heavy traffic because guess what? The hated New York Yankees were in town 😉 playing the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park tonite (great come from behind win by the Sox, btw)

Back at the hotel, we got ready for our pre-anniversary dinner at our favorite steakhouse, that being Ruth's Chris restaurant. More to follow on that one.............

Just now, Mr. Boston said:

I’m glad that we had such nice weather for you yesterday and again today!  Sure beats the awful heat wave of last weekend.  Looks like you’ll have a very nice sail away.  Happy anniversary and Bon Voyage 🛳

Thanks and you've got a great city! 🙂

On Friday evening, we had a pre-anniversary dinner in Boston at a really cool location at our favorite steakhouse restaurant! This building on School Street was the Suffolk County Courthouse in 1810, followed by two separate Boston City Hall buildings in 1841 and in 1865. Ruth's Chris Steak House has occupied the left side merely for over a decade. We used John and his Highlander to take us there and pick us up post-dinner in between his pickups at Fenway; excellent service on his part! Absolutely no complaints at a very reasonable cost! That game at Fenway btw, was a really good one with the Sox coming back from a 2-1 deficit vs the Yankees to win it 3-2 in the 10th after the New York bullpen imploded

Dinner at Ruth's Chris was also excellent with a really cool ambiance of brick and rich wood. We both had the petit filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes, one of Julius' salads (no anchovies por favor! 😬), with vanilla ice cream and coffee afterwards. Excellent service also, btw, A really nice service!

Tomorrow (Sat, the 13th) is our actual wedding anniversary plus of course our embarkation of ms Zaandam. See ya  then!

Happy Anniversary!!

This cruise is so nice, we did it twice on the Maasdam actually. And we are going from Quebec to Boston on N.Statendam in a little over a month. Dh would do this cruise every year tbh. I must say it is magical especially on the small ships. Enjoy.

Oh and I saw the incomparable Hercule Poirot on that TV screen. Simply the best!

Ohh.. all those fantastic pictures of Boston make me wish we had more time there. We have so enjoyed our trips to Boston. Just a lovely walkable city with so much to offer and some mighty fine people too. We have our extra days in Quebec City this trip. Maybe next time.

Thank you for sharing.
