It is now 11:20pm and we are near center by elevators. Music and people yelling has now hit 65-70 db inside our room for about the last 2 hours. What a joke

Unfortunately, loud entertainment happens in the Centrum on that class of ship. I made the mistake of booking a cabin too close to that area once too. I would suggest ear plugs. They used to close fire doors too to help with the noise.

I wish I would have known that. I would never have booked this ship. My fault. The problem with the room choice is that my wife uses a walker and getting farther away is tough especially with the narrow halls.

I just can't believe they use that area which is a giant echo chamber until midnight for basically a rock concert

Never expected this on an Alaska cruise

I love load music growing up in 70's & 80's just not when sleeping.

We went on Royal Priincess a couple years ago to AK and it was completely different.

Never again on RCL. Going to Sitka today definitely finding ear plugs.

Rant Over

That is the entertainment area for that class of ship.  Good information for future reference.  I’ve only taken 4 cruises with  2 more booked but I’ve learned I don’t like ships without a Royal promenade.  The Centrum is just a very odd set up.

I feel this way too. When I say I didnt love grandeur I get beat up a lot. I really missed the hot pizza from the promenade and coffee cafe. I would do grandeur again for the cheap price I got, but i missed the promenade. It's just how i feel. I'm worried about radiance but only 1 leg booked for the ports. Not the ship next jan. I need a hang out area maybe.

OP sorry about the noise. I felt a older ship felt more like a carnival cruise, more party and younger maybe, not sure. Lower prices and older ships might attract a different crowd than more expensive newer ships.

I would expect the noise from the Centrum on that class of ship but I wouldn't expect a booze cruise on an Alaska sailing.  When we sailed Radiance to Alaska, it was a very laid back, sedate cruise.  Quantum was more lively.

I would check guest services for ear plugs and ask about closing fire doors if you are near those.  That helped a lot.

We are right next to doors.

I guess my biggest gripe is that there is no warning that this may be an issue.

Especially since disabled people like my wife with a walker really need to be near the elevators where it is the noiseist.

Anyway will get earplugs tonight or more trazadone.

Only class of ship I haven't sailed and likely never will.

That's been the most sailed class for me.  😄  Grandeur x 7, Vision x 1, Enchantment x 1

Quantum class is catching up.  Quantum x 1, Anthem x 6

Radiance class, Voyager class, and Oasis class are tied at 1 each.  Radiance x 1, Adventure x 1, Oasis x 1.

We were just on RCI Jewel in OS #1058 (12 nights) and had absolutely no noise at all coming from the Centrum.

Hoping for the same in September on Serenade #GS 1052 and then October OS #1058.

good reason to use a TA when booking a cruise. An experienced cruise pro would have known to tell you to not book rooms close the the centrum opening on any of the floors. You should allow at least   20 rooms either fore or aft from those midship elevators to get away from the noise...It is just the design of that class of ship...Besides that, they are very appealing ships in many ways...hope that helps.

Seems you should have found this site a lot sooner than now to complain. These questions could have been answered way before your trip.

and I’ve been on a few alaska cruises and I can’t remember seeing any drunk people.  Well one young lady (school teacher) at 1am singing karaoke.  But that’s it.   And that was last week and I’m sure she was letting loose because she had school this week and dealing with 3rd graders. Lolol.

Agree...the older class of ship the GS & OS are going to be near the Centrum and below public places...no way to get around that design. But we also enjoy the itineraries the smaller ships provide. Usually they aren't booze cruises, at least the many we've been on.

I always book near the front elevator and never have I heard any noise, even in the morning when I am sleeping in.   Of course I don't go to the room until 1 to 3 a.m., so maybe I miss the noisy times.   I usually close the casino most nights.    The only time I ever heard noise was when I booked an "adjoining cabin" to get the area I wanted.  Never again.  The walls are like paper between those rooms.

Exactly. We took Nieuw Amsterdam, and the evening shows were poorly attended but the sunrise talks by the naturalist on deck were full.  People were there for the nature, not the entertainment.
