4-2-N-8,

There doesn't appear to be a way to DM on CC, so I'll just leave this here....

Your posts and comments are always refreshing, even if some don't quite understand or appreciate your humor and/or positivity.

Take what you read and heed with the proverbial grain. It's not bad or good because I say so. It won't tickle your fancy, scratch your itch or ruin your day because Marvin and Maive could or could not decide what the hell an IV is all about, or how to navigate the maze leading to Eden. I have heard that bacterial fermentation is more prevalent on "M" class ships while 'S' class vessels are now wooing "old money" and the senescence that goes along with it. So, where do you go? What do you do?

I say, go where you wanna wanna go, do what you wanna wanna do. All the while knowing that CC posters indeed control your destiny...if you let "em.

I started on Mercury in 2000, and have enjoyed every class that has come out since. As other veterans have already said, each class has its pros and cons based on individual tastes. I absolutely loved my virgin E-Class on Edge Transatlantic this Spring. Can’t wait to sail E-Class again...

S class vs E class.  S class wins hands down on a multitude of comparisons.  They have all been highly debated on this site numerous times.

Is E class a good cruise?  Yes.  Is S class a better cruise.  Definitely yes.

The suite cruisers tend to have higher evaluations of E class.

Real balconies vs open/close windows.  Bridge views on S class. Inward views vs outward views.

If I ever sail E class again it would have to be in a suite.  The E class non suite experience is below S class on a multitude of levels.

The comparisons remind me of the Bellagio vs the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.  Given the choice I would definitely stay at the Bellagio and not the Cosmopolitan. One is targeted for a more sophisticated traveler and the other is targeted towards a younger crowd.  One is an older but a much better casino and hotel, and the other is new and shiny, but loud and shouty experience.

Rather than taking the best of E class and S class and making a much better ship,  X decided to maximize profits and take away some of the better S class features.

The problem with CruiseCritic isn’t negative critiques, it is, In My Opinion, comments such as E-Class is terrible/not as good as S- or M-Class, all made without the obvious ‘In My Opinion’ added.

its all based on personal tastes. Ive seen critics complaining about something I think was the best part of a ship experience.

Ive done 4 E-Class cruises and enjoyed them a good deal. I Like the IV SRs and the various venues, especially Eden. I dont spend a good deal of time missing something another ship has that this one doesnt. E-Class is, In My Opinion, the best of the Celebrity Classes.  But I enjoy all 3 for different reasons.

Another very positive on E-Class, In My Opinion, is the 4 MDRs.Instead of the one big one on the other Classes, and many other Lines, E-Class has the 4 with different decor and added special selections. And of course, the opinions on food is beyond personal, it’s the most biased.

Just got off the Beyond this morning.  First time on E class.  Did Aqua.  Sailed many time on S class as Aqua.  Wife and I absolutely loved it.  We were concerned about the Infinite Veranda but ended up really liking the IV.  Only issue I had with it is that I tend to wake up before my wife and it’s tough to enjoy the IV without flooding your room with light.  I honestly don’t understand the notion that E class is more for younger crowd and whatnot.  There is plenty going on around the ship that appeals to many tastes.  I enjoyed listening to the cello play in Eden but also oftentimes listened to more upbeat music at Martini Bar.  The shows were outstanding.  I cannot wait to go again!!

Thanks for the positive review. I’ll be on the Beyond in January and am really excited about it! I do get a little nervous reading some of the things here (creaking cabins especially), but am not an experienced enough cruiser to pick up  on some of the things that more experienced cruisers notice.

I am one who was so dissatisfied and disappointed with edge I will never take a chance on another e class ship.  Even if it was free.  No thank you.

I totally agree.  We have sailed on all classes of Celebrity ships, usually in Aqua class because we enjoy Blu.  On the Edge we were in a SV cabin because we did not want an infinite balcony and can't justify the price of a suite.  My biggest disappointment with the Edge was that I really missed the SKY Lounge at the front of the ship.  That lovely area appears to be reserved for the suites (Retreat Lounge).  In my opinion, the four MDRs were fine, but food inconsistent.  The food and service in Eden were wonderful but the music coming in from the open bar above so loud that it was impossible to have a dinner table conversation.  Perhaps this has all been discussed in the other threads criticizing the E class ships?  If so, sorry for repeating.

After a short time reading the reviews on this forum you soon realise those posters who's Celebrity cruise we be nothing but perfect, fabulous, brilliant.

There are some who I believe could write the review even before they go on the cruise.

The secret is to wheedle these reviews out.

Like Host Ann wrote ignore the best and the worst,,,go with the balanced.

There was a review a few weeks ago where the reviewers first para was something like.. “,yes I’m biased,if you expect criticism of Celebrity you won’t get it,,,,move on.”

Of course it went unread by me.

Actually, I would not focus on what others notice, it is more about what you notice and what impedes or provides the greatest enjoyment of the ship and sailing you are on...

Each of us have different "requirements" or "needs" for enjoying our vacation(s) and really enjoy when our expectations are met and/or even exceeded.

Please come back and let us know how you enjoyed (or what irked or surprized you) on the sailing!!!

bon voyage

Go and make up your own mind. It's unfortunate some people decide they are going to have a terrible trip before they leave their house.

If you read this site or a few others often enough, you will notice the complaints come in waves. There is the bandwagon hot topic complaint that lasts a few months then the vocal few minority moves on to something else. Some 'reviews' conflate opinion with fact and those tend to be the ones that shout the same comments over and over. I have a little different vantage point than most, but I rarely hear the same complaints as the hot topic of the day that you read on here.

Go, enjoy it and make your own opinions. It's not the same as the S class. The food may be different. And they may not have the same dessert item that they served 25 years ago, but it will be okay 🙂

I was on my first-ever cruise on Feb 22 on the Apex, and I'll say I loved it. My Girlfriend is an avid cruiser and has gone on multiple trips before we met, and she loved it, we have a future cruise booked on the Apex in '24 because we like it that much. In Feb '23 we are booked on the Reflection, and I'm interested to see the difference between the two ships, based on all the responses on these forms it should be interesting.

Full disclosure, we are in our 30's so based on these boards, the E-Class is for our age group? and While I loved the Apex, it wasn't perfect. But anything we dislikes was a personal issue, not because of the ship or crew. We stayed in AQ, but hated Blu, personal taste didn't align with the menu style. We found the MDR just a good atmosphere and the food choices suited us better. So we used the MDR for nights we didn't do specialty dining.  We tried the Thermal Spa, and it was ok, but we wouldn't spend any time in it.... those aren't faults of the ship or Celebrity, they are personal reflections on our tastes and what we want in a cruise.

On the upcoming cruise, we are going into concierge class, it seems to have all the benefits we liked in AQ and none of the things we didn't care for. So, a good trade-off for us. I'm hoping our time on the reflection will be fun, but I can't wait to get back on the Apex in Feb '24.

We had an absolutely amazing cruise on EDGE in August 2019 and loved every second of it (in a SV cabin). A beautiful ship and probably our favourite. Enjoy

We once thought Silhouette was our favourite Celebrity ship, but no longer - when we sail again with Celebrity it will have to be EDGE class.

An SV cabin makes all the difference if not in the Retreat.  I'm in the "IV is a glorified window" club.

Problem is people pre -set their expectations and then are not pleased.  Think about it...no dishes to do, no food to cook, no beds to make, no bosses at work to please, people serving you left and right to make sure you are satisfied.  Take in the wonder of the beautiful scenery that God has created, what an amazing sight.  Un-wad those undies and appreciate what you have the privilege to be able to experience.  There are many who will never be able to do so.  Merry Christmas

Reminds me in the early 90's Celebrity's tag line was, "let us exceed your expectations". 😵

There’s often a huge premium, occasionally they cost about the same as sky suites

My three E-class cruises my SV cabin was at most $300 pp more than IV.   Not even close in price to a suite, if it was I'd be in a suite.

Ok, so I am curious...

What with all the criticisms and complaints and problems leveled against Celebrity on this site, has anyone successfully made it through an E-class ship cruise that they'd consider was at least good?

I'm trying out Celebrity next month and in August, and based upon all the consternation from so many on this site, my initial enthusiasm for this line has faded.

Just curious. Peace to all.

Dear @4-2-N-8 just be aware that some people here on CC tend to post the negatives and negative reviews.  Many people who had a great time or are positive do not take the time to post here.  So reviews are slanted toward the negative.

That's exactly what some are saying.  On my sailing on the Edge in the summer of 2021 the SV was more than AQ.

I picked a random upcoming Edge sailing in April, while a guarantee, note the price difference, nearly double

This. And others (well, often the same but...) refuse to believe that anyone could like the IVs - much less the solo IVs. But there are those of us who have zero issues with them. Given that the other solo cabin I've seen offered by another cruise line is a 99 square foot interior thing that looks like it has padded walls, I'll happily take the solo IV every time! It's perfect for me.

It’s all in the name…Cruise Critic.  You will have a lovely time onboard, enjoying so many different venues.  Cruising is a wonderful way to travel, having something for just about everyone.  Personally, I want a balcony, especially one that has some room on it.  That limits my choice of cabins, but I book early when cruises are first released.

Some people just enjoying complaining because that’s what they do and have been practicing for years.  Others use constructive criticism to share their opinions.  However, it is easy to tell the difference, not to mention have a huge learning curve before you step onboard…excited for your first cruise?  You should be!

Truly, setting one's expectations based on comments here, either good or bad, is setting oneself up for disappointment.

Usually disappointed everyday on here but attempt to help others...My favorites are the vague ones...

"How are elite perks?"  They're very elite

"How's the food?"  Lesser than it was pre-pandemic

"How's the entertainment?" Good for those who like musicals most night
