Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites!  It's another cloudy day in GA.  Temp is 51.  Yesterday the sun did come out, most of the afternoon, in fact.  We finally brought the Christmas tree in, then tried to find a strand of lights for it.  I took everything out of the Christmas closet that I could, but the Christmas closet is also the suitcase closet, and the suitcases were actually on top of the Christmas lights.  DH found them.

The sofa is completely covered with bags of decorations, and I got a decoration of a Santa head on the front door, but that's it.

I am going to do it this morning, get that walk in, so I'm off to wake up the DH.

Good morning, everyone!

It is going to be kind of gray and gloomy here in mid-Michigan today.  Now that I've said that, the sun will come out and shine brightly.  Not a lot on the agenda here except perhaps some grocery shopping.  Or at least making the list for grocery shopping.  We shall see how motivated I am.

@AncientWanderer So sorry to hear your are in the Covid penalty box.  That is a bummer, especially right before the holidays.  Wishing you a light case and quick recovery.

Today's meal sounds good to me.  It would be wonderful for a family brunch.  For the kale haters, use spinach.  I've gotten to really enjoy kale lately.   So I'd stick with that.  https://emeals.com/recipes/recipe-41526-265295-Tuscan-Sausage--Kale-Frittata

This next recipe points out that breakfast for dinner is often quite good.  And a frittata can be great for cleaning out the fridge.   https://imperfectlypaigewellness.com/sausage-kale-frittata/

1229792269_tuscanfrittata2.jpg.23b40ef3e53421e09f90455caade61f9.jpg

It seems like a lot of the recipe sites are pushing specific products and this next one is one of those.  But, ignoring the commercial aspects of it, the recipe looks pretty good.  I like the addition of tomatoes to the frittata.  And, I know I can use any brand I'd like.    https://kitchenconfidante.com/italian-sausage-and-kale-frittata

1326308812_tuscanfrittata3.thumb.jpg.3a871cc638141410619cfe94a63a3531.jpg

Next up we have a brand I've never heard of, but I'm sure it is good and that I can use parmesan cheese I find locally.   https://nourish.schnucks.com/recipes/tuscan-frittata/

1378731339_tuscanfrittata4.thumb.jpg.c4b1cedacefac58f8af45432f16f1178.jpg

While none of these are low in calories, they are low in carbs making them great for those of us who must watch them.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Good morning from a very chilly NY. My Swedish grandmother,as the oldest girl would wear the Lucia candles and deliver pastries to her parents for this special day. I remember my mother telling me that she refused the candles but did “deliver the goods”. I like hot chocolate  and cocoa drinks but rarely have them. We have not been to Manila. The recipes look great but will be tried on another day. I made vegetarian chili yesterday for tonight.

I see an orthopedist this afternoon and have my fingers crossed that I can be scheduled for surgery soon. We are concerned as hospitals in the area are full with patients not only with Covid but RSV and Flu complications.

@kazu, I join everyone else in praying that you are able to get to your cruise.

@AncientWanderer, sorry to hear  that you have Covid. I hope you start to recover soon.

Take care everyone.

Good morning everyone from Harvest Caye in Belize.

i have been trying to post for the last three days.  The internet is spotty at best.

I figured I would try while most people are at breakfast and then going to the beach.

We turned the clocks back one hour last night so we got an extra hour of sleep.

I have been very tired and yesterday took a two-hour nap besides sleeping all night. Finally catching up.  Word is that work his progressing on the house.

With the internet as poor as it is (thank God we don’t pay extra for it), I have not been able to read the posts.

My prayers for all that need them and a shout out to all that are celebrating.

Hope everyone is having a good day and staying warm.

Take care and God Bless,

Terri

@kazuI can imagine you scurrying (well, limping) around your house getting things tossed into suitcases so you can get out of Dodge tomorrow.   I just checked the forecast and at this time it's only calling for periods of snow with an accumulation of 2cm.  Keeping my fingers crossed for you, girl!

Not sure what weather station you are watching, Gerry  (St John’s ???) but we are due to get more than 2 cm.  It doesn’t look too bad so far compared to other places but the catch is the Bay of Fundy.  DH always rolled his eyes at the forecasters and  said it was scarier when they said 10 cm because that’s when we got nailed.

Thanks for the good wishes from you and everyone.  I appreciate them.

Well..back to work.

Prayers for my DD today as she is undergoing surgery on her foot. Hoping she heals quickly!🙏🏻

Today we’re going to lunch with another couple we met in the ship. Unfortunately the MDR has the same menu every day with perhaps one item added for variety. 🙄

Also this evening is the Orange party in Ocean Bar at 9 pm. We’ll be headed there after dinner to watch the antics and listen to the band. I have my orange ready to go🤗

I looked up your town on the weather.gc.ca site; hopefully it applies and you don't get much snow until you're safely on your way.

@StLouisCruiserswill keep your DD in my prayers for a successful surgery and easy recovery.

@StLouisCruisersSandy I hope your daughter's foot surgery goes well today.  I am sure she will have some painful days for a while.  Thank you for keeping us apprised of the internet woes and encouraging them to get it working!

Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports.   I could use some cocoa right now as I am sitting next to a space heater.   Our furnace got fixed yesterday after a new part was installed in the afternoon.  It ran one cycle and then pooped out.  They may make it back here before noon. Gratefully it isn't terribly cold outside.  Happy St. Lucia day. It is a favorite stop on a BHB and also to the Lutherans who celebrate the other St. Lucia's Day.  I love the symphony and violins are a key part of most symphonic programs.   I love the Poe quote.

Prayers for all on our care list, thanks for pulling this together each day Roy.    Prayers for the people of Ukraine surviving in the winter with many with no power.

The frittatas look wonderful and I like Debbie's suggestion to use spinach.   I will wait for the internet to work on the Volendam for our cocktail.  @summer slopeI hope you are let out of Covid jail soon. @cat shepardThanks for our daily wine reviews, I will pass on the sparkler today.  I am looking forward to photos of Manila.

I am heading down to visit my DB as soon as II am done.    The food porn promised and also a St. Lucia photo for their special day.   The food was much better than the obscure wines poured at the wine dinner.   Have a nice day!    Nancy

Good morning from a windy but not cool central Texas.  Our overnight rain and storms did not materialize, and we even had blue skies and sun for a while.  I can see another batch of clouds coming in from the south.  We could still get some rain, but the chances are not that high.

Here is the link to Rich's @richwmn post from June 16, 2021

The Daily for Wednesday Jun 16, 2021

June 16, 2021 in Holland America Line

Just as I started this DH called me, so I posted the link and now have my fingers crossed 🤞 I can finish this as an edit before time runs out.

I will celebrate cocoa day and St. Lucia day, both the saint and the island.  Violins are my least favorite string instrument, but in an ensemble or orchestra they are all right.

I recognized the Edgar Alan Poe quote since Annabel Lee is one of my favorite poems.

We'll pass on the meal (kale), drink and the wine today.

We visited Manila on October 31, 2018, on Coral Princess' Circle the Northern Pacific cruise.  I'll post my pictures in a few minutes.

@grapau27  Graham, I hope the new insoles help with the foot pain.

@kazu  Jacqui, I don't want to interrupt your packing and errands, but I'm glad you decided to take a chance and get ready to head to San Diego.  Remember, weather forecasts are merely predictions or educated guesses, and the weather doesn't always read the predictions.

@Seasick Sailor  Joy, thank you for the sunrise pictures.  I'm glad you are enjoying the cruise and your cabin.

@mamaofami  Carol, that is great news you are cleared for the Covid booster.  Hope you can get it soon.

@smitty34877  Terry, hope your appointment goes well, and you are scheduled for a hip replacement soon.  We had a neighbor come home the same day as her hip replacement surgery.  Hope yours is that easy.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I'm glad you are getting some rest, and that work is progressing on your house.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, sending positive thoughts for your DD's foot surgery and her medical team, and for a quick recovery.

Thank you Rich, thank you Roy, thank you Debbie, thank you Cat Shepard, and thank you Dixie for your daily contribution! And thank you all for being here!

Our first Winter event is forecast for Thursday starting Wednesday night. No snow but freezing rain through Thursday afternoon.

I thought I was going to CC jail for disagreeing with the VO crowd the past few days. Maybe after this post I will?

Stay Safe!

As I mentioned earlier, we were in Manila on October 31, 2018, on Coral Princess.  These are the pictures I posted on June 16, 2021.

As far as Manila itself was concerned, we did a quick drive through of the city, and my pictures out the bus window are not good.

We did a tour that took us out of the city to Taal Lake, with stops along the way.

The view of Manila as we sailed into port.

We were greeted by one of the local bands.

DSC05730.thumb.JPG.7a6eea8ece3187888addfbe50c7c4a45.JPG

A couple of pictures of the Jeepneys that are the main "public" transportation in the Philippines.   Some have set routes. They were originally made from Jeeps left at the end of WWII, but now they use many different vehicles.

Our first stop St. Joseph Parish Church in Las Pilas to see the 19th century bamboo organ.

Our next stop was the Jeepney "factory", the term used in the tour description.  I'll let you decide if it's a factory.

And their inventory control.

In another post I'll share pictures of our final destination and the trip back to the dock.

I'll finish our 2018 tour, and I did find a few of downtown Manila that aren't horrible.

From the Jeepney factory, we went to Taal Lake for a buffet lunch of Filipino food, and a view of the lake and Taal Volcano, which erupted in 2020.

A view of the lake, which is a caldera with a cone inside.  It was very humid so the distance pictures are a little hazy.

Good morning all. Thanks Rich and all who contribute to make this such a great place. My count down continues. Today I finish the final touches to my suitcase and preparations outside to ready the house. Tomorrow my oldest comes to do laundry and get last minute instructions. Thursday I have cleaning help come in so I can come home to a clean house. Then Friday I fly out to FL. I am a little worried about the weather. If the planes can't get to the airport from up north then it can be a domino effect and I could be sitting in an airport for a while. I am praying that Jacqui @Kazu makes her flight and all goes smoothly. So many are on cruises this week and over the holidays that I am sure we will be ships that pass in the night. I know I will be in a few ports with Rich and several are on my cruise. Prayers for all.

Good morning!  I have been busy getting my suitcases ready for pickup tomorrow.

We got our cabin assignment so printed the baggage tags.  Yesterday we got our typhoid shots and picked up malaria pills, but I hate taking them.

many, many years ago when I was working I had a short trip to Manila.  My favorite memory was eating at the Manila Hotel in the Champagne room. I just googled the hotel and it still has the same restaurant!

Best wishes to all!

Good morning from a very cold Durango. Temp was -1F when the dogs and I ventured out and Monty Chihuahua refused to walk at all. And a do mean refused. He just stood in one spot an shivered even with his warmy coat on. I think his little feet were just too cold. There was a lot of ice, so we came back rather quickly. They are both sleeping right now and I will try again in about an hour when the sun has done its magic. High today is forecast at 28F and if we hit freezing  as a high in the next week or so I will count myself lucky. Usually the really cold does not hit until January.

Nothing much on my agenda for today except working on sorting file cabinets which badly need to have outdated stuff tossed. Have a scheduled dental appointment this afternoon so I also need to chip the ice off my car. Or maybe the sun will do the work for me.

Hope all of you heading out for cruises make it. January should be interesting reading on the Boards if the internet on the ships will just cooperate.

Susan

Good morning!  It’s chilly and only going to be 49F for the high today. We had rain almost all day and night yesterday.  Seems like we are having a colder winter than usual.  I was busy over the weekend with DGD and then had a icky day after eating something that didn’t agree with me, so I’ve been away from the Daily for a few days.

I will pass on the kale. I like baking with cocoa but not drinking it. I worked for a doctor/boss who played the violin beautifully and was in several orchestras, and traveled a lot with one.

I like today’s quote. This day 48 years ago, December 13, 1974, was a Friday and the day before Craig and I married.  We are going to celebrate by making lamb chops.

I need to get the Christmas decorations that I’m not going to use put away. I have more ornaments than our tree will hold and they are all over the dining room table.

I haven’t been to today’s port but have been to St Lucia last December on the Rotterdam.

Joy @Seasick Sailor, your cabin looks amazing and so accessible for Allen. Please tell him hi for us. And the picture of you two looks like it was taken at “our” trivia table. Have you seen many of the same crew from last year?

Jacqui @kazu, I’m happy to hear that you are going on your cruise.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning all!

It took me a few days (still moving slowly) but here is our annual little Hershey’s Chocolate Tree that I put up each year. Do any of you remember back in the 80’s when Hershey offered 2 ornaments each year? Of course being the chocolate hound I am, I sent for them for as long as they offered them. Probably more than 10 years. Some are quite adorable and now the grandchildren love them too.

Jacqui @kazuI’m so glad you’ve made the decision to go tomorrow.

Sandi @StLouisCruisersprayers for your DD’s successful surgery.

Sharon @Sharon in AZsorry you had an icky day and hope your tummy troubles are long gone.

I had a nice visit with DB.  He was working with OT in the shower but I had a nice visit with DSIL.    She said DB may get released to home around 12/21.   I hope he will be home by the time we start our trip south because I wouldn't be able to visit anymore.

The technician is here working on our furnace, a different one than yesterday.   He found that the blower was failing and it drew too much current and then burned out the part that was replaced yesterday.   Thankfully he had a new blower in the truck but I don't know about another one of the parts replaced yesterday.  I am glad that this happened while we are home instead of my DS coming to check on the house and find it ice cold or worse with broken pipes.  She got stuck dealing with AC problems last summer while we were at our cabin.

Have a nice day!   Nancy

I am currently procrastinating walking the neighbors dog....Our bug man is here (she hates uniforms) the feral and her buddy are freaking out on the porch,( it's hard to hide under wicker furniture) and the dude is parked right in front of our mail box, (hope the mail person does not come right now).

Once he is gone, I can go.  However, he seems to be loitering far too long.

I had a lovely walk this morning in the cold, it was 51 earlier, the car said it was 49 when we got to the park, and now the computer says its 47.  For once the weatherperson was sort of correct, they said our temperatures would be dropping, but they said that for Wednesday.  Guess I should check NOAA.

I think any one who can get away before this winter happens is lucky.  I think,  to quote my years in MA and MN, that this winter will be "wicked" and not "wicked good".

I am still struggling with that 1000 ask, ,my boss knows, so my dial cards are pretty much people who have not been seen or heard from since 2018.  They dont answer the phone.  So each day I do about 70 calls every 3 hours, and talk to 1-3 people.  I laughed yesterday when @Quartzsite Cruiserasked if she could answer her phone because our computers were down yesterday...and we could not call, have no fear by the time i started calling TX last night the computers were up and running.  I got a 50 dollar donation, a 100 dollar pledge and one will consider.  No thousand in sight....
