Don’t know nor care.  I would NEVER ask anyone to make this awful trip down and then back.  Flights from PV to my area are awful.  You could fly to Europe and back.  I left at 3 pm today and will get home tomorrow at11 am with ugly layover tonight in Montreal - not long enough to justify a hotel although I might change my tune on that one 😉

I'm really glad you're getting home. I actually think that's quite a short flight time - but yeah New Zealand is always a nightmare - anything under 24 hours is good!

thanks for all the kind words everyone.

going to try to address / clarify a few things for you all:

Oh my gosh…you don’t need insurance issues when going through this.  Do you have a social worker or someone that can help you deal with this at the hospital?

The hospital had a very good International Patient Rep and she helped fight the insurance and it did turn into a fight,  I’ll get the meagre part of the claim they are paying done first and the I will most likely see a lawyer after one letter to them of dispute.

All we can say is we love you.  Please let us know when you arrive home or will they take you directly to the hospital?  Needless to say you are in our prayers.

Helen and Angelo

Directly to the hospital?  LOL. Insurance expected me to take regular flights in agony without the elbow being repaired,

I have such sympathy for you Kazu as I too was medically debarked from a Princess Ship many years ago (same port).  My advice is get home to your regular doctors and insurance as soon as you can.  I now limit my cruising to Cal coastals, Alaska and Hawaii so as not to end up,somewhere deep in the 3rd world where my insurance is no good..  Best wishes for your medical adventure.

I had my surgery done there and paid out of my own pocket.  Mexico has some top physicians and surgeons and the orthopaedic surgeon there was one of them (I got his CV),  Let’s not forget where my DD DH got his original training 😉

Oh my! Sorry to hear this and Susan and I will be praying for you and that the sepsis responds to treatment and the surgeon can mend your fracture properly.

Do pray the local Hal reps are helping you.

You have been through enough.

Bruce

There was no sepsis Bruce.  No need for me to be put off.  What the doctor on HAL saw was abone fragment from the fracture,  If he had read the X-Ray properly, He could have splinted it and I could have gone home on the original flights and had it tended to at home.  Disembarking me in PV put a whole new situation on things,

HAL reps didn’t do mUch except tell me to exhaust everything before I put a claim through with Platinum (which doesn’t pay a whole lot).  They did offer to arrange my flights and asked how I was doing but one thing I can do is arrange my own flights - not a lot of choices when you are flying from PV to where I am.

I was thinking this, too, Debbie, that hopefully a family member will fly down.   Or maybe Jose has relatives in Mexico who can come help.  It’s a very distressing situation.  Certainly our prayers are with Jacqui.

Maxine

Wasn’t going to do that to my family.  They live 2 provinces away and it would be gruelling for them.  Jose’s family is on the other side of Mexico up North,   They were aware of my situation

I agree.

Jacqui, you have been brave to take such a long trip solo. You got through your first solo Christmas, which to me is a big hurdle. So remember than you can be brave and get through this. I'm sure Jose is cheering you on, saying "you can do this."

I was thinking Jose was getting even with me for taking the trip and making sure I missed him 😉

So sorry for what happened to you. I didn't read how you hurt your arm. Could it have happened when that man tripped you?

No it wasn’t the guy who tripped me.  It was a wet, slippery bathroom floor off the casino,

You can only leave a fractured elbow for so long without surgery.  Any longer and you lose more mobility and there is a chance it doesn’t heal at all.  I knew. I was running out of time and discussed with doctors who were also concerned.  Thus the surgery when I did it.  I’ll be broke but it is what it is,

Hi Jacqui-

Thank you for letting us know what actually happened.  I’m happy that you have had your surgery and are on your way home.  The tone of your message lets me know that you still have your fighting spirit.  Jonathan and I wish nothing but the best for you.

So glad to hear you had it repaired! So sorry it happened and all the misdiagnosis issues hope you are home safely and HAL makes you whole!  Sending hipumongous gentle hugs!   Bigger than humongous!  So glad it wasn’t sepsis!

So glad to hear that you are finally on your way home. Is this the same elbow or have you now "done in" your other elbow? Sounds like you need to stock up on zippers😲. Being selfish, I hope you don't give up on Norway. Good luck with your rehab.

Haven’t given up but now I have to look at final payment & the condition of the elbow at that time, Susie. I don;t want to go on a Cruise wounded again 😉  and, i have to see how the dust settles from all of these bills.

and it was my other elbow i did in. Not sure i get the zippers - the last thing a broken elbow can tolerate 😉

Not ready to fight yet Tina - too tired…. But i will be.  I’m mad at the circumstances that put me in the situation i was.  Heck, i could tell it was broken from the ship’s X-Ray when the ER doc in PV showed it to me and i’m no physician

@kazu  Jacqui -- Thank you so much for taking the time and immense effort to bring us up to date. Once again, your demonstration of grit is a masterclass to the rest of us.

We are truly happy that you are on your way home, despite an awful itinerary. And to read that you had full confidence in the medical care you received in PVR.

So many of us here on CC hope that once you are in your own home and see your physician that things will improve for you. Please try understand that so many of us want so desperately to be of assistance to you. You are so loved by so many.

And just to take the saccharin edge off it: I hope any legal advisor has a really 'edgey' manner. If nothing else, to ensure you recoup most or all of the princely sums you have had to come up with throughout this horrific episode.

With true admiration,

-Cat

Jacqui, you are correct it was a message from Jose BUT you got the actual message incorrect. What he was trying to show you was that you are a strong women and more that capable of dealing with what life hands you and you made him very proud.  He does know how much you miss him but would not be happy if you stopped living your life to it's fullest. He will always be by your side............

Jacqui thank you for explaining how you got injured. That. MD on the ship needs some lessons in reading an X-ray. I’m so happy the surgery is over and you are on the way home. Jose is showing you how brave and strong you are. He is walking by your side always. Your next vacation should be in a spa in Florida on a land trip. You need a good rest.

 Hugs,

Carol

I know we are all relieved to hear from you and that you are on your way home with a repaired elbow.  Very happy to hear the hospital had an advocate to assist on your behalf.  Wishing you peace upon your return home and a very speedy recovery.  Thank you for sharing your experience during this painful process for you and a learning experience us all.  💐
