It's never been free on rcl. It was free on carnival but I think they started to charge because of the mess popcorn makes.

Oh I never assumed it was ever free...... just pointing out they'll put a fee on anything they can.

If the problem was the mess then they would get rid of the popcorn. I don't think the folks in Miami care if the crew has to clean it up.

I brought pizza to one of the schooner bar tables (Not at the bartop, the ones by the hallway before you go into the casino) and I got ripped a new one by staff about bringing pizza there 😅

I think I would’ve been in shock, but definitely not in enough shock for me to snap back. They wouldn’t be happy with me. What difference does it make if you eat your pizza in there?

At least good sense prevailed. Fast food is just that. Fast food. There are some minimum. Windjammers burgers were nice to the purpose back in the day at my unique RCI turn. Why to pay JR? Same for pizza. To have a premium pizza available that would be made to order at a charge, that's ok on me, but that is another subject. Cruising is not your common 1-4 hour short-haul domestic flight. It is a complex product to be enjoyed for some 7 days in a raw. Thanks to the info.

Honestly, they should consider changing Johnny Rocket's to a free location with only a cover for milkshakes/beverages.  If the board's experience is to be believed, it tends to be a ghost town after breakfast, and I'd assume the only folks who eat there for lunch and dinner are the ones not paying directly (either with free meals or AYCE plans), and it's a location that could easily be a 24-7 meal server, along with Sorrento's.

JR definitely needs to be turned into something else.  IMO it’s the most out of place  venue (our outdated rather) on the ships.

Royal needs more included food venues on their ships, not less (especially evening)

They could reintroduce the Seaview Cafe that used exist on the Radiance class ships. It was much better than JR's.

The news is so good that it's worth sharing twice!

If Royal wants to look for a new casual dining experience, I'd recommend a shawarma stand somewhere. Disney has (had?) this on the pool deck as a part of Pete's Boiler Bites. They had a skewered meat and about a dozen different sauces to put on a pita wrap.

THIS they could even charge for.

I thought it was interesting that he would 'admit' (if it's factual data) that 20% of people would consider other cruise lines.  We are considering others because of the high pricing.  And we didn't do the survey.

I not sure what surprised me more. That he would admit 20% of the people would consider other cruise lines or that 20% of the people would actually change cruise lines. I'm assuming that they were serious and not just issuing empty threats.

I guess everyone has their own line in the sand, so to speak.

I think I said something like "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't see a "no food" sign" 😅

I once saw a family of 10 bring in their windjammer dinner into the theatre for Mamma Mia 😛 No one said a word to them

I would have had a field day with this and especially if I already had a couple of drinks in me... which happens to be when I eat RCI pizza.

Hello,

JR, on Anthem, acts as a pool of stand-by waiting staff for Coastal Kitchen that seems to be permanently short-staffed. They do rather spoil the 'feel' of CK by waiting in their white JR aprons - surely some black ones could be made available.

Re JR being made free again, I was told that charges were introduced to keep out the kids that would take-over the venue leaving little or no space for adults.

Regards,

Cublet

Yup, that is the party line. Charge to increase customer satisfaction as there is no other possible way to solve the perceived issues.

And that concern ever mattered - why?  It's not fine dining at JR's.  You'd think they'd rather kids congregate there than at Chops...

And if you hate congregation, you remove the chairs and tables and make it takeout.  Problem solved.
