They have already moved the casino boat out of the channel, they aren't going to leave a big ship in there. There is a pilot boat coming into the channel. Oasis should be out of there soon. volk904 Posted August 30, 2023 #38 Share Posted August 30, 2023 Looks like the timing of the Hurricane should not cause to many disruptions in cruises unless there is damage. Most ships sail out Friday thru Monday and the Hurricane should be long gone by then. The exception will probably be the Serenade if it expected in Tampa Thursday I would think it far out away from the Hurricane now and would be delayed. Port remains open to all commercial traffic, but oceangoing ships and barges must report their intention to remain in port or depart. If they are departing, they must do so within 12 hours of gale-force winds. X-Ray: Gale force winds are expected within 48 hours. The rules are similar to port condition Whiskey. Yankee: Gale force winds predicted within 24 hours. Vessels seeking to depart must arrange immediate departure. Cargo operations must cease with 18 kilometre per hour (kph) winds. Transfer hoses must be disconnected with 22 kph winds. Ships seeking to arrive in port should seek an alternate destination. Zulu: Gale force winds within 12 hours. The port is closed. I called the day before RCL said it was a go. We changed our flight to get there earlier ( turned out to be the last flight allowed to land). Royal kept telling us the cruise was still a go. Sunday they said it was delayed but still a go. Monday night they finally canceled after the port was officially closed. Unfortunately so were all airports and rental cars. We were stranded 5 days in a hotel with little food. Roads were closed. It was mess. Looking back I wish I had just rebooted. My daughter was so anxious my step daughter got a UTI and got really sick from it. So just be safe and be smart. We finally got a rental van day 5 and drove around 37 hours home. Constantly being turned around due to flooding. What a stressful experience. Will really take your experience to heart as we are on the Wonder in late September. We were on an Alaska cruise when Harvey was in the Gulf. Son kept telling us it was headed straight for our area. We actually live near the Gulf of Mexico in TX. About 30 minutes from South Padre Island. At the last minute, it all changed, and Harvey decided to head to Houston! YIKES. Probably why you were being told it was ok to come until it wasn't. We were delayed getting home, but no where near what you experienced. That was tough. Edited August 30, 2023 by denamo

Rare twangster Posted August 30, 2023 #43 Share Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) For Port Canaveral this is mostly a non-event. I'm South of the port and my consumer grade wind gauge topped out at 15 mph at ground level. We had one rain band come through around dinner time for about 20 minutes. That was just some brief heavy rain. I imagine USCG closed the port out of an abundance of caution but it's also a great training drill for themselves, the port and mariners in the area. That's how we treated it at work, a training exercise. Rainfall projections from NOAA show the Florida East coast hardly getting any rain from Idalia. Port Canaveral should open pretty quickly once they run through the motions. Thoughts and prayers for folks elsewhere in the state that are being impacted. Idalia is strong but with a concentrated core. The space coast dodged this one but the peak of the season has yet to come. I’m on board Mariner now and will stay on for the next cruise. Personally, I am not particularly concerned about Port Canaveral on Friday; the port should be fine. I will be watching Idalia’s predicted path next weekend and early next week. It is just too soon to know where the storm will be or how powerful she will be, but it is possible Idalia will be in the ship’s path from PC to Bermuda or over Bermuda. I think there is a chance our itinerary could change (of course that would not be unusual during the peak of hurricane season).
smokeybandit Posted August 30, 2023 #46 Share Posted August 30, 2023 As it's forecast now, I wouldn't think any stops to Bermuda scheduled for this weekend would happen with Idalia modeled to hang around the area for a few days. Of course, plenty of time for that to change.
