dfish Posted September 14, 2023 #26 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good morning, everyone! It is a chilly morning - 45F - here in mid-Michigan. It is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 68F. Sounds good to me! I love cream sticks, but only have them on my birthday in place of cake. We are more than willing to celebrate Crab Fest day in this house. Mmmmm. And, I'll take an Irish Coffee, please! On cold weather cruises I like to have an Irish Coffee when I get back to the ship from port. On hot or warm weather cruises I enjoy a Bloody Mary. Nothing on the agenda today except a Zoom meeting at 1:00 pm. I think I'm going back to the gym today instead of walking. Walking is too hard on my back right now and I don't come home in pain from the gym. @rafinmd great news on the negative test! I love ratatouille. When DS Mary Jo was living in France we would make up big batches of ratatouille and then use it to make a chicken torte. We put the ratatouille in the bottom of a casserole dish, places sauteed chicken chunks on top and topped the whole thing off with some puff pastry. We always had fun decorating the top of the pastry. If you're looking for something to do with all that extra zucchini, this is for you! https://www.fromachefskitchen.com/ratatouille/ This next recipe includes directions for pistou, an accompaniment to the ratatouille. It is sort of a French version of pesto, but without the pine nuts. https://www.acouplecooks.com/ratatouille-recipe/ Pistou Pisto is the Spanish version of ratatouille. The two dishes are very similar, but there are some subtle differences. When I spent a summer in Spain living with a Spanish family, my Spanish mama made pisto often because I loved it so much. https://gypsyplate.com/pisto/ If you want to get fancy, here's the recipe for you! https://www.31daily.com/ratatouille/ Healing thoughts and warm hugs go out to our Dailyites in need. Wishing you all a wonderful day! 23
Rare kazu Posted September 14, 2023 #27 Share Posted September 14, 2023 thanks for our Thursday Daily, Rich and thanks to Debbie, Ann, Dixie & Vanessa. Yum on crab and yum on the Pinot today. I think I may need a LOT of wine later on by the time I am done with dealing with outside in the rain and the smokey air. There’s a scrap metal plant on fire at the Port of Saint John and it stinks out there. Thank heavens I don’t live in the port city 😥 I can’t celebrate quiet day today - too much to do. We are under alerts for Hurricane or severe tropical storm. Lee is projected to come in at full force as a hurricane. 😔 I got a lot done yesterday but…… So many in need of prayers - Baby Murphy @cruising sister Lou under hospice care @smitty34877 @CrabbyPatti DF under hospice care & poor Sam in the hospital with a brain bleed @mamaofami. My prayers for you all and your loved ones 🙏 @rafinmd so sorry to hear you tested positive 😔 I hope you can recover quickly and easily 🙏 Extra prayers for all those on the Care list, those suffering losses, health issue, worries and those that need them. Cheers to all those celebrating and cruising. Have a good Thursday everyone. 25 1
Rare cruising sister Posted September 14, 2023 #28 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good morning, Another beautiful day here in Kansas. I love the fall, it is the best weather. Today is errand day and most important is the groomer for Molly. The experiment of spreading out grooms has been a fail! Wooly stinky dog who has to be next to me at all times isn’t working. The touch up paint actually looks good. I was afraid it would look blotchy. I will paint again next year with better paint as this flat paint does withstand washing and with grand kids it is a mess. The only news I have on Murphy is that they will not wean the vent any further until the sedation meds are weaned off. They have weaned the pain meds but are having trouble with the sedation meds. My niece was to return to work in October. I am not sure what she will do. She has not left the hospital for more than a few hours since Murphy was born. Tough decisions all around for this young family. I hope our cruisers are successful getting to their ships. I hope those on land who will be impacted will be safe. Jacqui did get your house settled? Prayers and peace for Lou. Prayers for all on our care list and for the victims of the flood in Libya. How awful for the families and rescue workers. Stay safe and have a great day. 26
Heartgrove Posted September 14, 2023 #29 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good morning everyone and thank you for all being here! Travels to Hamburg were fairly good with both flights no turbulence! We should have studied our German more as it is not quite as bi-lingual as other areas we have visited. The region has has had very warm conditions of 85-90 F with no A/C and then rain in the mornings. But a very interesting city with Miniatur Wonderland and a ferry ride on the Elbe. Boarding was rather quick but did hold to assigned boarding time. Amazing that it has 1000 more passengers the a Pinnacle class but doesn't feel crowded. Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need! - Jack . 29
marshhawk Posted September 14, 2023 #30 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good Thursday Morning Dailyites! The computer says it's 69 degrees. And mostly cloudy. Looking out the window, and it's totally cloudy. I have PT this morning, and DH says he needs more ink for the printer, so when i get back we will head over to Staples. With the training yesterday, the extra hours I put in on TX, and CA, I may have goofed. Hours are a bit over 40, and I cannot work more than 40, so will check out where I can cut an hour today.... DH and I went to our favorite Taco place last night, and he had a crab cake sandwich. I wont tell him about donuts, that is his favorite food, and I love ratatouille. When my dad retired he decided to take up cooking, and that was one dish that he would make that we all loved. DH and I are binge watching Midsummer Murders on Roku. Since our hours are so weird, it's great that we can hit pause and then watch more at lunch time or before bed. and sorry, I couldnt resist 25

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted September 14, 2023 #32 Share Posted September 14, 2023 @Heartgrove I'm glad you enjoyed Hamburg even with less English speakers, and no a/c. Rare 0106 Posted September 14, 2023 #36 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good Morning! Had a soft crab for dinner last night. Will be at a crab fest on Saturday to celebrate a birthday. We steam our own crabs. Here’s a picture from last year.Love Tortola and the BVIs. Have chartered a catamaran and explored all the islands. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. ger_77 Posted September 14, 2023 #40 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily! Living on land-locked frozen tundra means I only get to enjoy crab when on BHB's. As for cream filled donuts, I know there are a number of bakeries around the city who can fulfill that craving any time. I try to be quiet, but sometimes my inner voice escapes. A clear but chilly morning for us (5C, 41F) with an expected high of 18 (64), but that's typical for this time of year. Yesterday we had another plume of smoke blow through that covered the city in a brown cloud for about 6 hours. It was strange, as right around lunch time the sun was shining and suddenly it became very orangey-yellow and then it was totally obscured. We had air quality warnings on our phones, so decided it was best to stay inside once our social interactions with friends were over. Bon Voyage to @Heartgrove, @Lady Hudson, and @Mr. Boston!!! @smitty34877I'm pleased that Lou is home; I'm sure that will bring him great comfort, even though it's difficult for those around him. Know you're in my prayers for strength to carry you through the days ahead. @kazu I do hope Lee veers off and doesn't hit you too hard; I can't imagine all you're having to do by yourself to prepare for the storm. Please stay safe. I did a screen shot of the Bermuda PTZ webcam this morning as workers were taking down the canvas coverings from the structures at the pier. It's looking wild already! Today DH wants to head out and pick up a couple of foldable saw horses so we can have additional storage for our plants over the winter. We'll set them up downstairs in one of the bedrooms so the plants can over winter there. In spring they can all be put outside and the saw horses can be used in the garage for other projects. He's got a number of things he wants to do today, as tomorrow he goes in for the pacemaker implant and will be out of commission for a few weeks. He's especially annoyed that he won't be able to drive for at least 3 weeks, but I'm sure he'll get over it. It'll be an early morning for us, as he has to be at the hospital by 6AM, so we'll be up at the crack of dark to get up, showered, and to the hospital on time. I'd like the drink of the day if it was made with decaf, will pass on the wine, and neither of us is a fan of ratatouille. Tonight we'll be enjoying the remainder of the rotisserie chicken DH brought home (I knew he would!) yesterday, and it'll be served alongside some potato salad and crudites on the deck. And wine. Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially those involved in floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and wars. Cheers to all with celebrations today. Smooth Sailing! ☺️☺️☺️ Gerry 29 1

Seasick Sailor Posted September 14, 2023 #42 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good morning Dailyites. There was a lot of happy going on with our happy hour last night. Friends came by to celebrate cooler weather on our patio and the last 4 left at midnight. I was just about to offer breakfast.... We had a nice rainfall for several hours last night. It was glorious! Prayers lifted for our friends and family here on the Daily. Roy, happy to hear you tested negative. How are you feeling? Tonight is girls game night here. I'm ordering wings from our local pub, and making Cosmo's. Our son is due later tonight driving from Alabama. I haven't had a creme filled donut in years! I would love to find some crab that I wouldn't have to mortgage our house for. Jeez the prices are insane here. Have a great Thursday. Blessings to you. Be kind. 22

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted September 14, 2023 #44 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good morning from a wet and dreary central Texas; since that means it's raining, I'm not complaining. I'll enjoy a day or two of quiet rain. At least, I didn't jinx things when I made a quick grocery run last night after dinner to avoid having to go in the rain. It is currently 71F and feels like 71F. The humidity is 100% with a dew point of 71F. The predicted high will be 80F with the rain tapering off during the day, but basically hanging around through Saturday. It's just started raining harder. I'll have to check on the rain total soon. And here comes the thunder. Crab Fest will have to wait for another day, along with cream filled donuts. A quiet day will be nice before the hectic few days week after next. The Walt Whitman quote is interesting, and I sometimes wonder if I really deserve my friends. Today, we'll pass on the meal, drink and wine. I'm not sure what is for dinner today, maybe some crab cakes. Last nights pot roast was good. I normally cut the roast into two pieces and only cook just one, I will need to cook the other half soon because we ate all the meat, but have plenty of veggies and gravy left. In 2006 on b2b trips from FLL to Manaus and back on the old Regal Princess, we stopped at Road Town twice. I'll retrieve my pictures in a few minutes. Two interesting days in history. The Gregorian Calendar made tracking the earth's orbit around the sun more manageable. The first computers took up entire rooms and required a lot of a/c. Those who built the first ones, including the one IBM introduced, would be greatly surprised at what even smart phones can do today. @StLouisCruisers Safe travels to your DS and DGS as they fly home from Lisbon today. The weather for Frisco next week looks good with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. @Denise T Denise, I'm glad Fancy likes her crate, but sorry she has separation anxiety. I hope it's not a serious case like our granddog Ginnie had. I'm glad they caught the escapee and was surprised he was so close to your home. @Nickelpenny Penny, I'm glad you are enjoying subbing. I hope your PCP can help with the knee pain. Steroid shots in the knees helped DH. @ottahand7 Nancy, I hope the zoom meeting and setting up the scholarships goes smoothly. I understand about the yard work after being gone for several months. @rafinmd Roy, that's great news about the negative test. @Haljo1935 I hope all your DH's tests have good results, and that you can get the therapist to email you the exercises. Does the cardiologist have a patient portal where you can access the test results? @dfish Debbie, I'm sorry walking is so hard on your back, but I'm happy the gym doesn't cause the back problems. @kazu Jacqui, I'm glad you have most of the yard work done. Stay safe when Lee "visits". @cruising sister Lorraine, it seems the news about Murphy is a mixed bag of progress and problems to be overcome. My heart breaks for the parents and Murphy with all they are going through. @ger_77 Gerry, wishing your DH all the best with the pacemaker implant tomorrow. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted September 14, 2023 #47 Share Posted September 14, 2023 Good morning again. I just checked the rain gauge, and since about 4 am we've gotten 1.30 inches of rain. The rain has slowed to a light sprinkle, but more will arrived by mid-afternoon. Texas, unlike the PNW, gets its rain in big bursts of rain. In other words, it's kind of like Morton's Salt, "When it rains, it pours". I realized after it was too late to edit my post that I had forgotten the memes. I'm making up for that lapse now. Heartgrove Posted September 14, 2023 #49 Share Posted September 14, 2023 One thing I forgot to mention about our cruise. Just like a few weeks ago receiving a survey about the MSC booking process, this time I received an email from the captain, Captain Francesco Iacono, welcoming us onboard the MSC Preziosa. In his email he gave a short history of the ship and how happy the crew were to sail aboard her. 32
