The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday June 2nd, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good cool and sunny morning. Some showers are expected this afternoon.

The fur kids are all down for morning naps. Yesterday they spent time in the cellar, it’s their favorite place to explore. They know the sound of the lock being opened.
Blessings and prayers to all on our journey.

Happy Sunday. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports.

Highs in the 80s and sunny today. Expecting the 80s all week. I looked outside today after waking up to find that a racoon had pulled down and destroyed two bird feeders and dumped the waste bucket we have for composting. Busy little creatures. Off to Lowes for new feeders.

Bon Voyage to @luvteaching

Kittens, Bon Voyage, boat Pet Quotes, Animal Quotes, Harry Whittier ...

Thinking of all on the care list.

Celebrating with all who are celebrating.

Have a safe and healthy day.

Good morning, everyone!

We have rain moving out and we should see a little sun this afternoon.  I'm glad we went to the Art Fair downtown yesterday.  They had a lot of great booths.  I did purchase two leather purses, one in black and a fun red one.  Sue got a couple shirts and we resupplied our coffee at our favorite coffee store.  We also had lunch at Pizza Sam's.   That was more successful than the Farmers Market.  There they had a lot of radishes and asparagus.   We got some of both and some flowers in a hanging bag for either side of the garage.

@kazu Jacqui, I can commiserate with you about the constant pain.  My back is a real unhappy camper this morning.  I do think the weather plays a role in the degree of pain.  With this morning being cool and damp, my arthritis is front and center.  I go for a second test shot on Wednesday and if that is successful we can schedule the nerve ablation.  Hang in there and hopefully the vascular surgeon will have some answers for you.

Today's meal sounds like a great dessert!  And I like dessert for dinner now and then.  But the sugar content would probably send me into a deep sleep.  This first one is called healthy because it uses avocados as a base for the filling.  Okay.......  Healthy Chocolate Tart

chocolatetart1.thumb.jpg.cad84572df5912d573be776963c0cda5.jpg

Looking at it you'd never know it was made with avocados.  This next one is lower in sugar than the first one, but it can be difficult to make because of the use of coconut cream and needing to separate the cream from the water in the milk and refrigerating overnight to do that.  You get the drift.  Less Sugar Chocolate Tart

chocolatetart2.thumb.jpg.ba17562d33ba1c63711d339fe36811cb.jpg

This last recipe doesn't pretend to be healthy.  It uses oreo cookies to make the crust and is filled with a wonderful chocolate ganache.  I guess the raspberries can count for healthy as they do have some fiber in them.  But, I bet this tart tastes divine!   Unhealthy Chocolate Tart

chocolatetart3.thumb.jpg.d5e71aeec83e0a90ea47410e12bedb8a.jpg

Our treat today will be steaks and corn on the grill.  Mmmm.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

Gun violence awareness - yes, please. Rotisserie chicken would be tasty - I make chicken salad or pot pies (depending on the season) w/the leftovers. Appreciate St Erasmus.

Would like the "meal," pass on the drink (egg whites), maybe the wine, not been to the port - @StLouisCruisers pictures are wonderful!

I have a facial this morning followed by some outdoor work before it gets too hot then laundry. I canceled yesterday's massage as my shoulder was too sore.

Congrats @Horizon chaser 1957 DH on his retirement!!🥳

Currently 72° headed to 90°. Humidity is 92% so it's still hard to breathe.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

Good morning from another cloudy day in central Texas.  It is 75F with 98% humidity and a dew point of 74F.  We have a predicted high of 86F with rain about 3 pm, then again from from 7pm until 1 am.  The plan for today is pressure washing the port and the house walls in the port.  It is usually a two day job, with all the vehicles sitting outside overnight.  That part may have to be changed.  At least, I got part of the prep work done yesterday.

It's hard not to be aware of all the gun violence with all the news on tv.  Rotisserie chickens are good for a quick meal.  As an avid cruiser, I'll honor St. Erasmus.

An interesting quote today by Joan Powers.

We'll pass on the meal.  Although I love chocolate, I'm not fond of raspberries.  We'll also pass on the drink and the wine.

We've been to Moorea several times beginning in 1996 pm Wind Song.

Marconi's application for a patent for wireless telegraphy was a big step forward in communication.

My parents and I drove to Fort Worth to see the Queen's Coronation on their tv, since television had not come to our town then.  I was 6 and can remember parts of the ceremony, but my biggest memory is how "snowy" the picture was.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm glad you have an appointment with the vascular surgeon, but yikes on having to wait until July.

@aliaschief  Bruce, I'm sorry your back is acting up again.  I hope it's better soon.

@Denise T  Denise, oh my on the damage done by the racoon.

We have been to Moorea five times on Wind Star, Princess and HAL.  Most of our pictures are from prehistoric times before digital cameras, but I did find a few.

In 2002 on the APEC cruise on Volendam, Moorea was not a port.  We took the ferry from Papeete to Moorea, and rented a car.  In fact, we've rented cars there every time except 2007.  That time we took a taxi to the Intercontinental Hotel to snorkel.  The reef comes very close to the shore there, and the colors of the fish and coral are outstanding.

These first pictures were taken in 2007 at the hotel.

Moorea is our second favorite port after Bora Bora.  The night in Moorea on Wind Song, dinner was a barbecue on deck complete with a roasted suckling pig.

In 1996, on the Wind Song, anytime the pilot was not on the bridge, passengers could walk into the bridge.  One evening, probably in Bora Bora, we did and started talking to the young deck officer.  He even took us out on the bridge wing and pointed out the Southern Cross and other constellations.

Fast forward to 2016 on the Prinsendam and a talk with Captain Tim Roberts.  In 1996 he was a young officer on Wind Song.  We all decided it was probably Captain Tim who was the young office we talked with 21 years earlier.

It really is a small world.

DH found his videos and stills taken in 2007 when we were snorkeling off the beach at the Intercontinental Hotel.  Some of these pictures are stills and some are screenshots of the videos.  It is easy to see how shallow the water was.

Good morning Dailyites

Blessed Sunday to our friends here. Prayers lifted to those suffering from pain, injury, sleepless night's, post surgeries, and just being worn out!!

Thank you Sandi and Lenda for the pictures this morning. We were in Moorea for Hawaii/Tahiti cruise in 2022. Love, love, loved it!

Bon Voyage to our Daily friends, celebrate tonight for the good days.

@LambKnuckles How was your day in Georgetown?

Yesterday was a beautiful albeit humid day at the Farmer's market. Then lunch at our favorite fish place, and shopping some retail stores With my BFF.

Today we are going out to the Florence Winery for brunch and do not have much planned afterwards.

Gun violence has gotten so, well I don't need to step on my soapbox.

Yes for rotisserie chicken, my favorite way to eat it.

Wishing you all a safe, healthy, happy week ahead. Be kind!

Bon Voyage @luvteaching.

Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, Dixie and Graham/Father David for the  Fleet Report and Daily.  Three nice days to celebrate.

The quote is definitely thought provoking..

Two great days in European history.

I visited Moorea twice, Crystal Symphony in 2018 and Crystal Serenity in 2020.

I’ll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Tropical Fruit Medley, Lamb Shank, and Upside Down Pear Crunch Coffee Cakeas  lserved on MS Prinsendam Junee 2, 2015.

A chilly start to the day but it is warming up.  I’ve been out for my walk but am now home for the day...

I looked up St. Erasmus. He died around 303 and is the patron saint of sailors and abdominal pain.

I'm reading "healthy" as "not made from diseased ingredients," because I can't really class a chocolate tart as healthful. I'm avoiding sugar right now, so I have to pass. I might like the drink, but I'd be wary of raw egg white. There is Finger Lakes vermouth!  "Method Sweet Vermouth is styled after traditional Italian sweet vermouth, but made using wines and brandy from the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is a versatile bar staple whose quality elevates common classic cocktails and stands on its own as aperitif served on the rocks or with a splash of soda," about $25.

The plot thickens until it curdles. My fall class, which I thought would be on Thursdays, will be on Wednesdays. Disembarkation from the Panama Canal cruise will be on a Wednesday, and I would be in the air during class time. It appears that I'll have to stay an extra day in Panama.

Good morning all,

We have another morning of marine layer and a bit of drizzle. Today’s plan includes attending a volunteer recognition event in one of our parks where we are allowed exclusive access and they are making us breakfast. Then church.

The meal of the day has me concerned- I would have never thought of avocado being in a chocolate dessert, and I’m allergic to raw avocado.🫤

A few questions please:

1) @Heartgrove -are you finding any issues booking Fred.Olsen as an American? Do you have to use an agent or are you booking directly?

2) For those who have been to Moorea recently- how do able and how commercial is it now? I’m wanting to try something in that area as a land based trip. We’re not resort people, so I’m pretty sure an AI where we stay on a beach all day isn’t going to cut it. We like hiking and outdoor activities. DH gets seasick and bored so a cruise to that area isn’t happening.

Have a great day!

I actually have no photos from June 2.  This is sunset, June 1, 2015, from the MS Prinsendam.  On June 1 we visited Copenhagen and June 2 was a sea day enroute to Ijmuiden, Netherlands:

Happy Sunday Morning Dailyties!  Its cloudy and 71.  Yesterday was so humid, and the temps never really rose, so last night the kittens were all sleeping on top of each other on the wicker loveseat, and then later, they all got back in their box and snuggled up there.  Ever since I freed them and turned the box over on it's side, they had not slept in it.  Now they have rediscovered soft comfy bedding again.

I think I have given up on even attempting to cook when I work from noon to 9 pm.  We went grocery shopping and ended up buying Stouffers frozen dinners.  And sandwich fixings.  And ice cream.
There was a sale on Hagen Daaz ice cream, and thankfully the woman who was staring at the ice cream with me,  pointed out  that the sale was only good, if I bought 3 of them.  So I did. But by the time we got home, I was too tired to have ice cream,  so I know this week, it's sandwiches, frozen dinners and ice cream.🙀 I go back to normal after 6/14.

@kazuI too agree with Donald Duck.  It's pain that gets me out of bed in the mornings.  That and leg cramps, well, thats pain too.

On Friday night I heard gun fire (not unusual for this neighborhood) but then I heard a lot of sirens, turns out that at the Long stay hotel around the corner from our subdivision, a woman was shot, by her 17 year old son.  She survived, and he's in jail.  Apparently guns and the shooters, bring about a permanent solution to a temporary problem.  I keep thinking that if the punishment was more severe for trying to take a life, it might change the way we (as people) react, but common sense seems to have left at least 90 % of people.

The city of Atlanta is under a state of emergency.  There was a water main break, and on Friday Donna was sent home early.  But when they fixed it Friday night and turned on the force of the water again, it caused 10 more water main breaks. (system too old to handle the growth of a city).  And apparently they can only fix one at a time, so a lot of businesses are closed, concerts were cancelled. Restaurants couldn't open.  I live in a different county, but there is a water main break on our major road, and the road has been pouring out water for weeks now.

Our county water system seems to ignore it.  It wont be pretty for traffic, when the 3 lane highway collapses.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Hugs, Annie

Lovely cloudy comfortable day in north Jersey.  Yesterday I was able to work through DH’s instructions that he’s compiled for me and granddaughter to manage financials. Did the first of the month set up, transfers and make sure everything is ready for all the auto payments to happen. I think he’s forgotten that at one time I used to pay all the bills but that was when it was not automatic and all paper checks and stamps. Today’s system is so much easier!

Mo’orea is such a paradise. We’ve been there twice, I think it’s DH’s favorite place on earth!  Thanks for the beautiful pictures, ours are very similar. Great memories!

Bon Voyage Karen 🛳️. Enjoy every bit of having it all to yourself!

Terry, I’m sorry you’ve had disturbing calls about Tana. Keep focused on your long drive home!  You must take care of you first or you’ll be no good to anybody. 💗

Terri, best luck to finding the right PT!

Jacqui, it’s so hard getting mind, body and spirit aligned!  I hope you can find a winning combination soon. 🙏

The stories about family messiness are heartbreaking but oh so common. My father was a gambler who stole from anyone he could including his job and his family…. children, wife, my aunts, uncles and cousins. Addictions are tough on everyone.

Debbie, that chocolate tart is right up DH’s alley. I think I’ll make one for Father’s Day. We have tickets to My Fair Lady that day at a Poconos playhouse at the same hours they’ll have dinner here so we’ll miss dinner… probably have DH’s favorite on our own- meat lover’s pizza…. and maybe chocolate tart!  I’ll have to get some cream!

Blessings to all in need near and far. Have a restful day to refuel.
Maureen

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Almost every day we see stories on the news about gun violence; it's so sad.  We do enjoy rotisserie chickens once in a while - they make meal prep so easy.  I'll honour St. Erasmus, as I didn't know he was the patron saint of cruisers.

When I first got up the sun was shining brightly, but now the clouds have moved in and it's only 11C(51F); looking at the forecast, it seems we won't see the sun any more today, but the temp should go up to around 20(68), so it'll still be pleasant.  With all the wind we've had the past number of days, the spruce trees around the property have shed tons of pine cones, so I'm going to head out later in the morning and rake them up off the lawns.  I have to remember to wear gloves when picking them up, as the pine sap is so hard to wash off.

@luvteachingBon Voyage; I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

@Horizon chaser 1957wishing your friend a happy, healthy retirement!

@kazuI'm glad you finally have an appointment with the vascular surgeon; can you call the office and ask to be placed on a cancellation list?

I'm going to pass on both the drink and the wine, but the chocolate raspberry tart really looks appealing.  I don't think I'd make one, but would likely try a slice of the first recipe if someone offered it to me.  I made enough pork chops yesterday that we can have them for leftovers along with corn on the cob and a tossed salad on the  deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in turmoil, and especially those dealing with health issues.  Cheers to all with celebrations today.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Dark Chocolate and its healthy !

“Dark chocolate has lower added sugar and fat than milk or white chocolate,” says Peart, while noting it also boasts an abundance of beneficial antioxidants called flavonoids.

That’s a huge health benefit for your heart. Flavanols are related to the production of nitric oxide, which relaxes your blood vessels and improves blood flow. In turn, this also lowers blood pressure.

Due to their antioxidant properties, flavanols are also beneficial in fighting cell damage relating to aging. And although more research is needed, scientists have also found some evidence that flavanol-richer chocolate can increase your insulin sensitivity. “The more you are sensitive to insulin, the lower your diabetes risk,” Peart states.

Dark chocolate is packed full of important minerals, including iron, magnesium, zinc, copper and phosphorus. In your body, these minerals are used to support factors such as immunity (zinc), can help keep your bones and teeth healthy (phosphorus), and contribute to better sleep quality (magnesium).

Compared to other sweet treats, dark chocolate is high in fiber. “In a small amount of dark chocolate (about an ounce), there’s are about four grams of fiber,” Peart says.

The antioxidants in dark chocolate improve blood flow to your skin and protect it from sun damage. A small study even found that eating chocolate high in flavanols — that is, dark chocolate — can protect your skin from the effects of UV (ultraviolet) rays.

Dark chocolate has long been associated with feelings of pleasure and enjoyment. Those feelings may originate from what are called polyphenolic compounds.

“Polyphenols are antioxidants that lower cortisol, a stress hormone,” Peart explains. “So there are mood-enhancing benefits to eating dark chocolate.”

Just thought I would share that info-this dessert (meal)is healthy.

We have not booked yet but in reading the Fred Olsen CC threads you can book directly with them, unlike P&O which uses an agent here in the USA. You must talk with one of the Fred Olsen representatives with your credit card information as our credit cards are not compatible (maybe by now they are) with their online system. 15% of the cruise fare is required as a deposit but is refundable up to 91 days before sailing. Then a series of percentages charged up until sail date.

Looking at videos on YouTube, they refurbished the public spaces and appears well kept. It reminds me of our cruise on the Veendam in 2015. We love new experiences! Our choice will probably be one of the Superior Ocean View cabin on Deck 3.
