The Fleet Report and Daily for Monday September 2nd, 2024

Recommended Posts

I’ve had a fabulous day celebrating my 70th birthday 🎉!  Talked with many, texted with more!  Shared photos and love and memories and hopes and dreams… Life is Good 🌈

I received a photo of the new baby with strict instructions not to post it anywhere.  I’m disappointed not to share it with my Dailyite family but I’ll respect their wishes. A day will come, maybe when we get to visit them when the timing is right!  We’re just so relieved that she’s arrived ok!  So impressed with her parents taking it all in stride, no panicking, stayed together through it all, 65 hours!  And very glad to be included in their chat group!  At times we’d tease, joke, make suggestions on their Scrabble game options!  Levity broke the  tension for all of us. I felt guilty going to bed knowing they’d be up all night but they did well!  THANK YOU ALL for your support through the tough moments of life!

THANK YOU ALL for the Birthday wishes!  You’ve helped me really feel joyful crossing the threshold into my 70s. Not everyone gets to do that, as we have all sadly experienced.  You all help me feel connected!  You have helped sustain me through transitions, difficult news, procedures and setbacks; and you’ve cheered with me on from around the globe as we landed in new places, had break-throughs big and small, you’ve encouraged me on gray days… you are all quite Amazing!  💖

@Denise T Congratulations on this step forward. Transitions can have a bittersweet side and a void behind. I thought of how I coddled my thesis work, back in days when everything was paper. I had a somewhat ratty bag (so not to attract attention in Rutgers Newark NJ campus) that I carried my research notes, sample logs, draft notes and materials around in. I wouldn’t ever leave it anywhere, certainly not in my car. Thieves could have the car, not my thesis!

@Quartzsite Cruiser A very special blessing for you and Steve!  Never enough anniversaries!

Blessings for all in need, for all away.
Cheers and joy for all celebrating!
May we all be well and safe. Extra blessings for those who are not!

Maureen

You will have to ask, just in case.  You may have to order one.  They're nice to have on your bookshelf in a special spot where it won't be lost among all the other books.  You know, in case your friends come over and want to see it!  😉 😄

More like a coffee table book.

Hi Sandi, wanted to share a picture of a needle point piece of Japan on a cabin door today:

Joy, how trusting that individual is!  All that work, and you never know if it will be there in the morning.  Once someone tried to walk off with a simple paper door sign I made for a Prinsendam cruise with a map of the itinerary and the ports of call listed.  DH caught him walking away with it when he returned to our cabin.  The guy said he was just taking it back to show his wife.  Yeah, uh-huh...

Very nice work though!  It actually looks like cross stich on a soft Aida fabric rather than needlepoint which uses thicker yarns and a stiffer cloth.

Better get back to work on my project before the sun fully sets.  I need lots of light.

Good evening.

Thank you to all who contribute to this thread,

I was going to read all the posts prior to posting. And then I saw that there were six pages.  By the time I read all that It will be time for bed and I will have posted nothing.

So I decided I will read later.

I had a busy day trying to catch up on bills and going food shopping in between the raindrops and they were big raindrops.

I also made a big tray of baked ziti. We had some tonight and I have frozen the rest to have at another time.  These days I cook for more than one time.  I am getting too old to cook every night.

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, thank you for the photos of Port of Spain.  We are stopping there on our Amazon cruise and it made me decide to change our shore excursion to the one that included the Monestary.   Also we originally thought that we would walk around the city after the tour.  We have decided otherwise after reading about the couple being told to get in a police car and escorted back to the ship.  We will be happy with whatever we see on the ship excursion

Prayers for everyone on the cares list.

Terri

Happy Monday and happy Labor Day. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports.

I sent off a clean copy of my dissertation to my committee for review. I am sure that there will be edits so I will patiently wait. I hope to be graduating in January. It is a little bittersweet. I have been working on this dissertation for years. I worked on it through a pandemic, the deaths of my sister and brother, and establishing my counseling practice. It kind of became a part of me. I spent hours on weekends writing it. There were times where I needed a break from it. And now it is finished. Won't know what to do with myself. It has to go through my committee review, a form and style review (checking the actual writing), an oral defense in front of my committee, then it gets reviewed by the chief academic officer of the university, then published in ProQuest. And then I graduate. It is almost like sending your child off into the world.

Anyway, taking Fancy to the park today and enjoying the time off.

Happy Anniversary to @Quartzsite Cruiser!

Terri, I'm glad the photos and descriptions helped you to make up your mind on your stop there.  I also thought it was disturbing to read about being told to get in the police car and being escorted back to the ship.  If I'm ever there again, we won't be wandering around off the ship either.

The baked ziti sounds good.  Good idea to cook extra and freezing the remainder.  More efficient and less work for you.

@Mtn2Sea Interesting photos. Do you know why people were brought back to the ship by police? Was it not safe to walk around?

They were told the area they were in was an area that was not safe for walking.

As you all have probably figured out, I also post on and read the Oceania Board.

i learned something there that I’d like to share with you.

However you all are so smart you probably know this already and I am the one that is behind the eight ball.

i like to have flowers in my stateroom and we usually get them and ask the room steward for a vase.  Sometimes we are successful and sometimes not.

On the Oceania Board someone posted that they bring “collapsible vases” with them so that they can then bring flowers on board and always have a vase in which to put them.

I found them on Amazon and ordered them.  They are reusable.  i will post a picture of them.  They are supposed to arrive tomorrow.

can’t wait to see them.

I heard about those from my son's former MIL -- ordered one but haven't used it yet.

Are they anything like these?  I got them on Amazon years ago and have brought them on many cruises.  I just have to put them in a safe spot during rough seas. 🙂

I just noticed this on Navigator:

Available at The Shops on Deck 3.

For the first time, Holland America is launching a collection of 12 iconic pins. The inaugural set is exclusively available on this voyage. Purchase a unique keepsake to commemorate your journey.

It looks like them.  The ones I ordered have Van Gogh paintings on them.  As I said, I am always the last to know about something.  Glad i learned about them.

Glad to see photos of them with flowers in them.  thanks.

No surprise really.  It's after 8pm and we've still haven't seen a drop of rain.  Radar shows rain in the area, but I'm not holding my breath.  I'm not sure even for those times that show 75 to 90 percent chance of rain, we'll see any.

We had a quiet, laid back anniversary.  We opened a bottle of Prosecco with dinner.  I made shrimp creole with rice, and we have enough left over for one or two more meals.  I also will make a casserole and freeze the leftovers in two serving portions.

Joy, I saw this for the first time on the app today so it must be something fleet wide that has been implemented. There is a picture of the 12 pins and the shop where they are sold.

The shops are closed. (We set sail at 8:30 tonight)  I would like to check them out.
