Thanks to Rich @richwmnfor his work and publishing today the Daily and Fleet Report.  The days we’re recognizing are Cranky Co-Workers Day (we just had Slap Your Co-Workers Day on Oct. 23^rd so they must be REALLY cranky), National Civics Day and Navy Day.  The last two are great days to celebrate but please don’t get arrested slapping your co-worker!  As for the quote, uh, okay but I can’t understand the meaning this early.  The pork tenderloin sounds nice but I could do without parsnip puree and kale.  No to the drink but yes to the Sauvignon Blanc.  I applaud the Pinckney’s Treaty or Treaty of San Lorenzo.  The opening of Rebel Without a Cause must have been a biggie.  Huge thanks to Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for their food and beverage reports.

 

Other days we can recognize on Oct. 27 are National American Beer Day, National Black Cat Day, National Mentoring Day, National Mother-In-Law Day, National Tight End Day, Visit a Cemetery Day, and World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.  I’ll probably be celebrated by my DSIL because he likes me a lot.  I treasure that!😊

 

Prayers for my DB and myself, the Israelis and Ukrainians, the poor hostages still being held, the servicemen and women stationed overseas, and everyone who lost someone or any possessions in Hurricanes Helene and Milton.  Also for our group of Care list individuals in need of them due to ill health including Tana and Terry, Annie and Chuck, Jacqui, Roy, Melisa and DH, Vanessa, Ann, Elizabeth, Joy’s DS Bonnie, Dixie, Debbie, Jane’s DS, Terri and Jim, Carol and Sam.  I hope all the folks celebrating special events in their lives, cruising and preparing to cruise have a great day.  For our friend Vanessa @JazzyV, thank you so much for your hard work and I hope you are doing better each day.

The port for the day is Haugesund, Norway.  This was only seen here one time before on April 4, 2023.  I’ve been there only once but I didn’t really see it!  That was my first day of Covid quarantine on June 15, 2022 on Island Princess.  DH saw it from the ship and took photos but he tested positive an hour or two later and went in quarantine with me!  I hope to go back someday.  Here’s the link for your convenience in retrieving any photos you posted back then.

It is downright cold this morning with a temperature of 27F.  We are expected to warm up to 57 with sunny skies.  We should probably do another round of leaves today, but we'll see how that goes.  What I thought were allergies has become a full fledged cold.  I did test and came out negative for Covid, so that is a step in the right direction.  But, I was up early this morning due to congestion and couldn't get back to sleep. I can certainly commiserate with @JazzyV Vanessa.  We didn't vote yesterday because every time we went the line was out the door and wrapped around the building.  The last time we checked it was out to the street.  We'll try again today.  Other than that, nothing is on the agenda.

Today's meal sounds yummy.  If the parsnips aren't to your liking, substitute mashed potatoes.  If kale is not a favorite, use a different vegetable.  The star of this show is the pork roast.  Garlic Herb Roast Pork Tenderloin

 

 

I didn't find any variations on the above recipes so I chose some that are similar in nature.  This next one roasts the pork and then tops it with a citrus and coriander glaze. I'd probably skip the fennel puree.  Citrus and Coriander Pork Tenderloin

 

 

Here's one for the instant pot, but can be done stovetop and in the oven as well.  Garlic Rosemary Roast Pork Loin

We had a nice, quick 6 day trip to Bermuda.  Weather was good as was the food.  Staff again was very caring helping me to meet DH’s needs.  It was a nice getaway.

 

Weather getting colder — it really feels like fall.  Have to get a head count for Thanksgiving and will probably do a Wegmans catering again.  More expensive but neither my sister or I don’t want to deal with cooking a large turkey anymore.

As for Civics...  I never took a class called 'Civics', but I did learn all about it!!!  And I took Political Science, and I served on our City Council for 11 years!

There really isn't anything on our agenda today, so maybe we'll take a drive in and around the city to see the colours still left on the trees.  There's one small bush not far from our house that is the most brilliant red colour; I'd like to know what it is, as it's quite beautiful.

 

I'm going to pass on the drink, let others enjoy the white wine, but we do love pork loin, so I'm going to take a serious look at the recipes for later on.  I guess it's getting colder, as DH is asking for spaghetti, so I'll brown up some ground beef, add it to a can of sauce and will make baked spaghetti and salad for us to enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

I can't think of any cranky co-workers but can easily think of several cranky bosses.  We'll celebrate Navy Day since DH is a retired Navy Supply Officer.  I agree with the quote, would like the wine since I love all Marlborough wines, will pass on the drink and would like the meal if I switch out the kale and parsnips.  Not sure what will be on the dinner table tonight, I need to use up whatever is in the freezer and fridge.  We've been to Norway but not to this port.

 

It's back to packing etc. etc. after DD, DSIL and  DGSs' visit and a better night's sleep.  Hopefully we'll get a day without rain before we leave so the lawn can be mowed.  It may be late October but that lawn just keeps growing. 😉  The kids had a muddy, wet day yesterday at the pumpkin patch.

Today is our DS and DDIL's 23rd anniversary -- I can't believe it's been that long.  We flew to IL to attend the wedding and it was 6 weeks after 9/11.  They're celebrating by staying at Snoqualmie Lodge -- where he proposed to her.

It was 32F early this AM, but is now up to 50F and sunny, with a high of 57F. We will warm up this week, but there might be some rain for Halloween evening. I slept well, having taken a Benadryl before my RA shot last night. I was out early for a curbside pickup at Sam's Club. All is now stored away and I'm having my coffee. I have Pumpkin Spice creamer, but I still can't really taste it. I will relax and watch football this afternoon. The Steelers are on Monday Night Football.

Thanks for posting DH's photos. I'm glad DS is coming to visit you. Prayers that you get a good treatment plan when you see your Oncologist tomorrow. I'm glad the flu shot didn't bother you; I need to schedule mine soon. I'll not get the new Covid shot until around January.

@smitty34877 I was happy to hear that your DB will be with you to help out until Tuesday.

@dfish I'm glad your test was negative, but indeed can commiserate with the congestion aspect. I still have some mild congestion, but have been able to use my CPAP the last few days. Feel better soon!

Good morning (still is here) from Durango. @grapau27Happy Birthday. That lunch looks really good! I am sure you had a great day.

 

Nearly noon here, and it is 56F. I don't think it is going to make it to the low 70's as predicted. Things will cool off considerably in the next few days. And rain is forecast for us, snow for the high country starting tomorrow afternoon.

 

I have run out of steam for the house rearrangement and am taking it fairly easy today. Have tagged a couple things that must be done and then I will read and rest. The dogs seem pretty draggy too.... I think we are all having trouble coping with the chaos. Hopefully they will finish up tomorrow. The flooring should not take that long. I am going to have to call the city recycling people as they did not do our recycle on Friday, it bin is full to the brim and a bear knocked it over yesterday. Fortunately some occupants of the other buildings picked it up.... Someone left a pizza box in it... a real no-no.

 

So.... little to report. I think it is going to be a long winter. I am setting aside a number of storage boxes whose contents need special handling and hopefully by Spring that will all be done.

 

Take care all. I am hoping that maybe our various health issues can be licked in the near future.

Good afternoon from Van Horn.  It is 80F out, but we're just relaxing in our cleaner room.  It turns out, we were not on the list yesterday for cleaning, and now I'm rather glad about that.  Today, besides the two who didn't clean our room yesterday, there was another man working our end of the hall.  When David saw me out in the hall, he double checked that we wanted the room cleaned.  As soon as he finished the room he was cleaning, he came and refreshed the beds and the bathroom.  We told him that was about all we needed, and we didn't need the sheets changed.  He was friendly, fast, and efficient.  Once he left, I went down to the front desk and told them how good he was, and that is where I learned his name.  He is usually at the other ING hotel next door, but works here on Saturdays.  I also made a point to thank him again.

I can't think of any cranky co-workers but can easily think of several cranky bosses.  We'll celebrate Navy Day since DH is a retired Navy Supply Officer.  I agree with the quote, would like the wine since I love all Marlborough wines, will pass on the drink and would like the meal if I switch out the kale and parsnips.  Not sure what will be on the dinner table tonight, I need to use up whatever is in the freezer and fridge.  We've been to Norway but not to this port.

 

It's back to packing etc. etc. after DD, DSIL and  DGSs' visit and a better night's sleep.  Hopefully we'll get a day without rain before we leave so the lawn can be mowed.  It may be late October but that lawn just keeps growing. 😉  The kids had a muddy, wet day yesterday at the pumpkin patch.

Today is our DS and DDIL's 23rd anniversary -- I can't believe it's been that long.  We flew to IL to attend the wedding and it was 6 weeks after 9/11.  They're celebrating by staying at Snoqualmie Lodge -- where he proposed to her.

Sharon, we have been keeping a close eye on the weather and wind.  We hope to be out of Van Horn tomorrow, and will try to get closer to Quartzsite.  Then, we will just sit tight Tuesday, and wait for the wind to die down.  If we don't leave tomorrow, we'll just go to the campground here Tuesday.  Texas Canyon is enough without wind, but it's a very interesting and pretty area.

I'm glad the flu shot didn't bother you; I need to schedule mine soon. I'll not get the new Covid shot until around January.

@dfish I'm glad your test was negative, but indeed can commiserate with the congestion aspect. I still have some mild congestion, but have been able to use my CPAP the last few days. Feel better soon!

@Cruzin Terri I'm glad you don't have to replace the water heater right now. I did one last year when it leaked and need to replace the 2nd one preemptively. They were both over 20 years old.

Nearly noon here, and it is 56F. I don't think it is going to make it to the low 70's as predicted. Things will cool off considerably in the next few days. And rain is forecast for us, snow for the high country starting tomorrow afternoon.

 

I have run out of steam for the house rearrangement and am taking it fairly easy today. Have tagged a couple things that must be done and then I will read and rest. The dogs seem pretty draggy too.... I think we are all having trouble coping with the chaos. Hopefully they will finish up tomorrow. The flooring should not take that long. I am going to have to call the city recycling people as they did not do our recycle on Friday, it bin is full to the brim and a bear knocked it over yesterday. Fortunately some occupants of the other buildings picked it up.... Someone left a pizza box in it... a real no-no.

 

So.... little to report. I think it is going to be a long winter. I am setting aside a number of storage boxes whose contents need special handling and hopefully by Spring that will all be done.

 

Take care all. I am hoping that maybe our various health issues can be licked in the near future.

Happy Sunday from north central FL! It was 60 this morning, 85 now and probably won't go much higher. Like the 3 days, love the wine and would enjoy the meal without parsnips or kale. The suggestion of mashed potatoes sounds good, though! I'll pass on the drink and very much want to visit the port some day.

 

DH is watching football - not my thing so I'll either wander into the bedroom if I want to watch something, or work on a jigsaw puzzle in the dining room. This morning I made a little dent in the Christmas shopping. The kids/grandkids, my brother and my ex & his DH are finished, as are the 3 administrative support staff. That leaves the 3 managers who report directly to me, and a couple co-workers. Oh yeah, DH too. I tend to be an early shopper - don't want to be stressed by leaving it til the last minute.

 

Does anyone here have the paid PTZ-tv subscription? Just curious what it would get me vs sticking with the free version. I enjoy watching the sailaways, but only HAL ships and mostly Port Everglades.

Hello friends, it's been a pleasant, sunny day here.  I asked DH to teach me how to pick up leaves with his lawn tractor...maybe tomorrow!  Pork sounds good, but I'm making one of the Creamy Chicken Rice soup recipes from the other day.  Smells good in here.  So far, our Packers are winning!  I'm working on some Chemo Port Pillows for our local women's club.  They distribute them to those in need.  I'm in our handbell choir, we played in church this morning...means I had to get up early!!

Good Afternoon, it’s been a beautiful New England weekend.  Yesterday I made an Aldi run, cleaned the leaves out of the yard and deep cleaned two rooms to get them ready for winter.  Today I made a Target run.  I took advantage of some Circle promotions and stocked up on cat food.  Work continues to be busy.

Happy Sunday from another beautiful fall day in Central CA. Fun collection of days and the meal looks great and have not been to todays port.

 

I attended the Trunk or Treat yesterday with our daughter and granddaughter and word must’ve gotten out because there were lots of trick or treaters and we ran out of candy within 30 minutes (130 treats). This was the first time we’ve done this and should have planned for 500 so we’ll be better prepared the next time. I guess this is the newer thing to do as we hardly get any kids on Halloween night.

 

I went to the hospital and saw my neighbor, she’s hoping to come home tomorrow, I’m “on call” for morning pickup should she break the joint early, and then her son is coming back in the afternoon. I think he wants to be there for the discharge info so he also knows what’s going on. She’s anxious to get home so she could start preparing for her winter sojourn to Yuma, AZ.

 

I hope to get some reading in this afternoon, I’m reading Gone Girl (old book), but it is very good and I’m really liking it. I’m currently marinating a pork tenderloin which I’ll grill on the gas grill and serve with basmati rice and a salad for an easy Sunday dinner.

 

@richwmn Welcome home, @StLouisCruisers did a wonderful job in your absence despite her own health issues.

DH took me out for a quick (nope) run today to WM to return a couple items. As if that wasn't enough of a cluster, I torqued my knee again. So, 1 week out from surgery and I have done something to it 2 days in a row 🥴 The only 2 times I've left the house that did not involve PT and I hurt it. I believe the Universe is telling me only PT is worthy of leaving the house.

Good afternoon!

 

We were successful in our attempt to vote this morning.  The line was just outside the door when we got there and it took 47 minutes from the time we stepped in line to the time we walked out.  They had it well organized so everything moved smoothly and as quickly as possible.  

 

I have decided that what was acting like a cold must have been allergies.  I have no symptoms today and colds don't go away in two days.  So, I am all better now, thank you!  It must be the power of positive thinking from the Dailyites.  

 

@Haljo1935 Please be careful with the knee!  Maybe you're right and should only go out for PT for the foreseeable future.  

@Quartzsite Cruiser Lenda, you and Steve are having quite the adventure in Van Horn.  I hope the motor home gets repaired first thing tomorrow morning and you are safely on your way.

We got up late this morning, I am usually up around 7, and Pat depends on me to be the alarm clock, but I had an awake time during the night, and then overslept.  So we had a rush to get to church, and then brunch at the golf club.  And now I’m tired again, but Vanessa, I think you can take me off the cares list, I am feeling much better, and I think this residual radiation stuff may take a while to wear off.  Hope at least that it’s doing its job.  Thanks to Rich for coming home and shouldering the Fleet Report again, and to Sandi for doing the shouldering in his absence.  Sandi, take the time now to look after yourself!  
 

Dreary weather and spitting rain.  We had a big windstorm the night before last and the streets are littered with leaves. Especially the bike lanes, so a lot of cyclists are avoiding them, and riding in the car lanes.  I hope the city clears the bike lanes, pdq.  
 

Tomorrow Pat has to go in for a Holter monitor for 24 hours, and then will see the cardiologist on Friday.  We’ll have a list of questions for him!  Pat is feeling so much better , it really is amazing.  
 

I have taken out a pork tenderloin, and will go and pick herbs between showers, so we will try the recipe tonight, but with sweet potatoes and maybe spinach ….

We had our updated Covid vaccines yesterday and both my DH and I are suffering from the s/x of it. At least this time I didn't get totally nauseous but I have had a headache and tiredness and very sore arm since yesterday. Hopefully by tomorrow this will be all gone.

 

@Sharon in AZ I feel for you with your Mom.  She sounds a bit like my 95 year old mother who insists that things happen immediately even though it is usually impossible, and then of course she gets mad at me.   

 

@StLouisCruisers I hope you are enjoying your visit with your DS.  I hope tomorrow you get a good treatment plan.  So glad you have your DH to take notes for you and ask questions as well.  

 

I enjoy seeing all the BHB back in FLL.

Good evening, It’s supposed to get down in the 30’s tonight with possible frost .

   After we got home from church, it was time for Lucky to go back to the vet. They want to see him again Tuesday. His eye is doing much better, but still waiting for the special prescription to arrive. They said while he’s gaining some weight, he’s still small He may be on the every 4 hours feeding schedule for another 3ir 4 weeks. We may be able to put his plate in his carrier and stretch it out. 
We are very impressed with the care he’s getting from the urgent care practice. He does have an appointment with our regular vet the following week.

Have a peaceful night with prayers for all and loving hugs.🙏❤️

Good evening from Van Horn.  We are enjoying a nice desert sunset.  This part of Texas is part of the Chihuahua Desert, where Arizona is part of the Sonoran Desert.

 

I have everything we won't need in the morning packed.  We will call the repair facility early in the morning to see if the part is in, then decide what our plans for the day will be.

Elizabeth, I hope you kept some of the bubble wrap for your knee.  Taking things as easy as possible seems to be the best practice for now.

Debbie, I'm glad your cold turned out to e allergies after all, and that you are better. Glad the voting situation was better today.  Yes we are having an adventure, but not one of our choosing.  We should be in Quartzsite by now.

I'm sorry you are having side effects from the shots.  I had a horrible headache and fatigue, but it only lasted one day.  Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Thank you. It is an old heater.  23 years old.  It was installed when the house was built and we have had no trouble until today.  It tripped again today.  Tomorrow we are calling the plumber and we have done some research.  We are going to get a tankless heater installed. Hopefully we can get this done tomorrow.

Thank you. I don’t want to complain about my frustration too much because I feel blessed that she is still here and that I have a good relationship with her but lately it’s been a bit stressful. So thank you. And I feel for you too, I understand.
