Is This Diamond Reception Every Night???

We recently returned from a VERY enjoyable 11 night cruise of Vision of the Seas. We have cruised on most of the major lines and this was our 4th on RCCL. One thing we always enjoy is a sunset drink in the Crown Lounge. This was not allowed for us as this lounge, on this ship, was reserved EVERY night from 5 to 8:30 for a Diamond Reception. I was told that this happens on this ship on every cruise. It never happened on our previous 3 sailings on other ships. So, does the Crown Lounge often serve as this venue on other ships, or just because Vision is "small". We were also told that there were 450 Diamonds on this cruise and there was no other place to hold it. I have never been to one of these receptions, but some Diamonds were complaining they had to pay for beer, as only wine was "free". We plan to go on Enchantment, out of Baltimore, April 1. I see in one thread that there is now a Diamond Lounge that seats about 35 people. Are we again to be without our sunset drink?

Yes they serve it on all ships everynight. On the ships without a dedicated Diamond lounge (they are putting one in all the ships except the Majesty) there is a nightly Diamond event such as you described. Free wine , soda and champagne and 25% off mixed drinks and beer. It is usually held in the Viking Crown lounge.

The ships with a Diamond lounge offer a nightly cocktail hour with free mixed drinks wine and champagne

We just returned from a B2B on the Navigator and every night in the Xpadita (Sp??) Lounge we had a Diamond Event from 5:00 to 8:ish PM so it is possible the same thing happened to you on your ship.

It all depends on the number of Diamond/Diamond Plus on board. At some point, Vision will have a dedicated Diamond Lounge and Concierge Lounge, so these venues will hold the nightly cocktail hour. However, if the number of D/D+ on board a particular cruise is large, then other venues will be used for the nightly cocktail hour.

A number of RCI ships have a dedicated Diamond Lounge, which provides appetizers and drinks at n/c. All RCI ships will have one once they complete their refurbishments over the next couple of years. Until then, depending on ship, part (or perhaps all on the smaller ships) of the Viking Crown Lounge is used to hold a nightly Diamond event.

Both the DL and the Diamond Events are exclusive to RCI C & A Diamond members. The drinks at the Diamond event are not free but at a discount, which in comparison to the Diamond Lounge can be a source of complaint to Diamond members familiar with the DL's on the other ships. Once each ship has its DL, the conflict of public space for the Diamond events will end.

the new CL and DL on EN are blocked off, so you will be fine.

Not every ship has either Lounge which does offer this every night( plus other things throughout the day)

and yes , on those sailings that have over large complements of D, D+ or even Pinnacles, they will move the nightly cocktail hour to a more suitable venue.

Vision of the Seas does not have a Concierge Lounge for Suite Guests, D+ and PC Members nor does it have a Diamond Lounge for D/D+/PC Members. It does have a nightly Diamond Event from 5-8:30 for Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club Members and that is what you experienced. The venue used on any sailing is determined by the number of C&A eligible members on board.

Enchantment just recently went through her enhancements where a dedicated Diamond Lounge was added and the Concierge Lounge was relocated. Both are "part" of the Viking Crown Lounge on Deck 11 but are enclosed areas and only accessible through a door that can only be opened by those guests who are eligible and who have had their SeaPass activated.

You will still be able to go up to the VCL and watch the sunsets.:)

I would say to the OP-if you sailing has many D or D+-it is possible, even with a DL on your ship-you could loose that spot for your pre-dinner drink. It would not be the first time this event was moved even if there is a DL on your ship. If you are lucky-maybe they will just close up another bar for a while so you can still have your ocean view drink!!;)

This is a touchy subject around here. I remember when reserved seating came out for suite guests it turned into a holy turmoil around here because people were saying it was not right to take away a public space for all cruisers but yet these events do just the same.

The smartest thing they did at one TA was give out drink vouchers because of all the repeat customers. Very good idea and would love to see this more in the future so you could choose any venue to enjoy a complimentary beverage!!

Edited to say:

Patti was posting at the same time as myself and possibly-even if it is a large amount of cruisers-they will still keep one spot of the lounge for all cruisers!!!

I would venture a guess that a large part of the crowd in the VCL was due to it being a Dec. sailing & the December Celebration promotion...your April sailing will probably not be nearly as crowded with D & D+...

I don't understand why RCCL offers a discount on certain drinks at a Diamond Event vs offering complimentary drinks for Diamond members in a Diamond Lounge. If a customer is Diamond status, should it matter which venue they are partaking the Diamond Member privileges??? I just don't get it. Why not offer the same complimentary drinks at a Diamond Event as there are in a Diamond Lounge?

I understand the need for the Diamond Events to be held in different venues on the ships without a dedicated Diamond Lounge but why penalize the Diamond Members by not offering complimentary cocktails simply because the some ships do not have a dedicated Diamond Lounge as of yet?

I prefer to look at the glass as half full, rather than half empty.

The ships with just a Diamond Event used to have NOTHING for C&A members. At least now you can get free wine, "champagne" and soda, and 25% discounted drinks. Good deal!

Are C&A members also Diamond members? Maybe that is where I'm confused. I was under the impression that all ships, whether they have a Diamond Lounge or not, offer Diamond Members complimentary cocktails each evening to show their appreciation for repeat cruisers on their line.

Not a huge deal but we were on the Navigator 12-8 to 12-15 and we like to dance. EVERY nite there was an event in the Ixtapa lounge. This is really the only lounge (other than the dungeon that does not even open till midnite or later) that has a dance floor big enough to let more than 2 or 3 couple dance on.

Boleros dance floor and the one up in the Viking lounge if you have been on this ship are very small. You could step accross the whole floor in 2 or 3 big steps in any direction.

Don't get me wrong...the diamond folks have more than earned some free drinks. (Sorta like the $500 free buffets at a casino) But on a ship big enough to have a shopping mall running down the middle you would think they would have a place set up for this other than the one decent dance venue that allows the poor folk to have a decent dance floor....lol.

There is a diamond event which offers wine and soda free in the diamond lounge with drinks at a discount. Diamond plus and above have access to the CL with the suite guests, which offer free drinks and appetizers. You don't get access to these event until you reach those levels in the C & A society.

Since the April 1 cruise on Enchantment is the last R/T out of Baltimore, I would expect there to be a lot of D/D+/PC Members on board. Even with the newly added Diamond Lounge and the relocated Concierge Lounge, it is very possible that the VCL will be used as an overflow.

On the Allure they held a nightly Diamond event in Blaze. And the drinks were FREE.

We had got discounted drinks previous to the Allure. I'm not sure if it had something to do with the December Diamond Celebration.

It is easy to be confused.

All ships without a Diamond Lounge ( or Concierge Lounge) offer complimentary wine and champagne at a nightly Diamond EVENT. Ships with a Diamond LOUNGE or Concierge LOUNGE , offer more.

It is a little strange that this benefit it actually driven by the actual inclusion of a Diamond Lounge. Therefore, the benefit is not the same across the fleet.

As noted, some ships have no CL or DL so the event is a nice offer.

Since Oasis and Allure have a Diamond Lounge that offers the same amenities as the Concierge Lounge, Blaze was used as an overflow for the Diamond Lounge.

On ships that hold a Diamond Event because they do not have a Diamond Lounge, complimentary wine, champagne and soft drinks are available with all other drinks offered at 25% off their regular price.

Is there a cocktail hour for suite guests on Vision?

After Vision's refit scheduled for next October, there will for sure be a cocktail hour for suite guests every evening. Until then, it's up to the ship's discretion to allow suite guests to take part in the nightly Diamond event. I've seen this happen from time to time.

Thanks. We've never cruised a Vision Class in a suite.
