Beverage Package Pricing Increase

Recommended Posts

was told to upgrade it would be $89. That is ridiculous! Yes, we did purchase the classic.

How many days?

But that is the difference between what you 'bought' and what you now want. Why is that ridiculous?

They are not back charging anything, you still have the full coverage of the Classic. You should have 'bought' the Premium then if that was the coverage you really wanted.

I called Celebrity to upgrade my perk Classic package to Premium. I was charged what I expected to be charged for my 7 day Bermuda cruise: $10/day plus addition 1.80 per day gratuity. My husband had elected not to upgrade, but just to get info, I asked the very nice Celebrity rep what he would be charged to do so on the ship. She said, "They are raising prices, but I don't know when. But he would be charged approximately $16 per day." Not sure if she was the fountain of info on this issue, since she didn't know when the package prices will be going up. I helpfully educated her on this LOL. Previously, an agent told me that it would cost $10 to upgrade, but that one knew nothing about a price increase. Ah, the value of communication....

The reason why I decided to pull the trigger now is because when I looked at my invoice for the cruise, I saw that they assigned a dollar value to our Classic package ($686 for both of us). They then deducted $686 from the total cruise cost to zero out the price of the beverage package.

If we delayed upgrade til we were onboard, I figured that maybe they would see a $686 credit, and then charge us the new Premium package rate of $910 for two of us (excluding 18% grat), leaving us to pay an extra $224 to make up the difference. Obviously, that math wouldn't work in our favor.

I don't know if other folks receiving the 123 package deal have dollar amounts attached to their invoices, but it might be worth a check. Today is the last day before prices go up.

I don't mean to stir the pot on this, but wanted to let you know what at least my agent said about this today...

Bevvie -- if you're talking about our 7-night Bermuda cruise, that sounds about right. But, yeah, if you paid for the Classic package, another $89 is a lot of money. :(

I've never been able to rationalize purchasing the drink package outright -- as, we've never had a big bar-bill on a cruise. But, when we can get the Classic package as a perk, it makes sense for us to shell out a little more to upgrade. But, we do try to keep the amount "shelled out" to a minimum! ;)

If you are on Summit Bermuda cruise and given the free classic beverage package as part of the 123go, the cost to upgrade to premium would be $10 + 18% gratuity = $11.80 per day or $82.60 for the week.

It really doesn't matter how celebrity handles it on their books....you were offered, and presumably accepted a free classic drink package. Using your logic, if they raise the recommended gratuity by $5, do you think you will owe $5 a day more? No...you were given free gratuities.

Hi All

I have been watching this thread with interest since it started over 780 posts ago and was pretty confident sense would out so we could upgrade are 2016 cruise next year at $10. But just to be sure I phone X UK (UK Reservations 01932 834300) and the rep I spoke to was certain the price was going up on Monday.:eek:

I am a coward :( so I paid up at £84.37 for an 11 day per person I hope I am wrong but we were going to upgrade anyway so may as well do it now:D

Hi,

Can anyone confirm that the wine package pricing is NOT increasing? On the Celebrity website it says there is an online discount for drink packages that ends in a few days...which is likely referring to the all inclusive packages:

"For a limited time, enjoy online savings when you book your Beverage Packages now through April 19, 2015."

Just wondering if I should buy a wine package now?

thanks

ps - looks like wine prices have increased since our last cruise in November 2014.

There is nothing stopping you from booking the wine package...and then if prices don't change, you can just cancel it.

If you upgrade pre-cruise before April 20th, you’ll only be paying the current difference to upgrade to Premium ($10 per day + 18% gratuity).

If you upgrade pre-cruise as of April 20th or onboard as of April 6th, then you’ll be paying the new upgrade rate to Premium ($16 per day + 18% gratuity).

If you prepay the upgrade to premium from 123 program if you cancel the cruise is the upgrade fully refundable

Please do a search of this thread. You are quoting from old news which is invalid. Search for Celebrity cruise and read their posts to get the "accurate" policy.

Just called to upgrade our cruise reserved for this September. As discussed in this thread, Celebrity rep verified that after Monday upgrade price is $16 pp per day plus 18% gratuity. So I asked him if the upgrade price is dependent upon the classic pkg. simoly listed as a perk on our reservation, or is the perk actually the PRICE of the pkg. as listed? He said that the perk is for the actual price of the pkg. and dollar amount credited to the reservation does not change when classic pkg. increases in price. That's why there will be a price difference of $16 plus gratuity starting Monday. (His words, not mine) Since we have cruises booked all the way thru Feb. '17, chances are good that we will be paying even more than the $16 difference.

So at this point, I dunno nothin' 'bout nothin.' I trust our representative here far more than the person on the phone today, but I thought I'd share my experience with y'all...

I am going to have to wait. It will cost an extra $165 dollars if the price rises for our August cruise (total around $450) but we have nothing to spend $300 OBC on. There always was a small gap of around $15 from memory.

Our 2016 cruises being a B2B have $300 each OBC so that is less bothersome.

Must make sure if the price rises in August that we make the most of it. Luckily we don't plan on getting off on a couple of port days.

ghstudio

Are you saying that if we prepay to upgrade now (let's say for a 2016 cruise) and we cancel the cruise we will NOT get the upgrade amount refunded?

And pushka

We will have $950 OBC (between onboard booking, 1, 2, 3 and TA OBC) to spend. Since gratuities are also covered under the 1, 2, 3 and we don't do Specialty restaurants or Celebrity excursions that doesn't leave many places to spend it. I would be happy to do the 5% cash from the casino option but am afraid that won't exist by February. :(

It would seem that some of the recent posters missed the post 708 from Celebrity:

Hi all,

We continue to listen to guest feedback, and as a result, all upgrades (from Classic to Premium) will be $10. Guests should no longer have an issue with upgrading at any point, either by booking in advance, or onboard.

No. We saw that. I am not convinced the crew on board the ships know that. Because it seems that as reported here, when people call Celebrity to ask questions about it or upgrade before the 20th, guest services don't know about it either.

Hi all,

I wanted to share some news that we just received regarding our beverage packages.

Beginning on April 6, 2015 for all sailings beginning on or after that date, we will be raising most of our beverage package prices onboard. *From April 6, 2016 - April 19, 2015, our current prices will remain pre-cruise, thereby giving a "pre-cruise pricing advantage." *As of April 20, 2015, however, the pre-cruise prices will be raised to match the onboard prices.

The following changes will be:

  • Soda Package $8.00 --> $9.00
  • Premium Water Package $14.00 --> $16.00
  • Classic N/A Beverage Package $16.00 --> $18.00
  • Premium N/A Beverage Package $20.00 --> $22.00
  • Classic Beverage Package $49.00 --> $55.00
  • Premium Beverage Package $59.00 --> $65.00

Please note that the same beverages will still be available under each package, and that no drinks will be removed from any of these packages. The prices also do not include the 18% gratuity. Lastly, the wine package pricing will not be changing.

The thread is actually about all package prices.
