Millennium dry dock this year?

The only thing they should do is sink her. She is so old and shapeless there is nothing they can to to put her in a decent state. I'm amazed they are investing more good money after bad. We felt second class in a rusty old pool and deck, dirty old stairs etc etc.

Uhu- sink her- a bit harsh I think! I really do hope they will reinstall the panels and wood from the Olympic - Restaurant in one of the upcoming ships- that paneling is a piece of history! As it is in all the other Millenium - Class ships!

Memorabilia from the old liners Olympic ( Milli) , United States ( Infinity), Normandie ( Summit ) and Ild de France ( Constellation) should no go wasted. . . !

Oh please... I realize this stuff is somewhat subjective but try to be a little realistic.

I am sure that they don't want to get into a dialog with us. just give out information when it seems appropriate to them.

A comment and interaction would be nice.

Cut and paste marketing spin is so minor league.

And from everything we've heard, Tuscan Grille on the M Class ships (replacing the wonderful ocean liner venues) is a bust.

Can't wait to see her May 12th! I may have to be forcibly removed from this ship at the end of the cruise!! :D

Perhaps not as '' forcibly'' as you might think. You'll be on a ''post-drydock'' cruise, and if history has taught us anything in this industry, it's that the first ( and, often, the 2nd)cruise following a drydock can be....a challenge...and expectations ought to be re-set accordingly.

There's always some work still getting finished, some areas still not re-opened for the guests, plumbing issues shake-downs following 15+/- days of ''disruption, etc.etc...

Specifically for Millie, the experience with Infinity's similar re-fit was that the porch was not 100% ready until the return panama sailing, and the ''new Tuscan 2.0'' transformation was not quite....100% ready until sometimes into the 1st sailing....besides the ''usual '' post-drydock finishing touches.

If you factor those possibilities into your expectations, then you'll have a fabulous cruise. The crew is still the best at sea ,with Celebrity.

Happy sailings

Any chance that the normal cabins will get a facelift?

We had an exceptionally tired looking AQ cabin on Millenium last April.

Aside from that, looking forward to seeing all the improvements when we sail her in December.

According to ==X== , the suites categories get a major ''re-do'' but nothing was mentionned about ''regular'' staterooms.

Well, to be sure they, 'Natalia&Nick', did not enjoy their last sailing on the Millie as to wit in the scathing review.

Methinks they may not have read all or many reviews of the ship before sailing/choosing Millie... they had a challenge with a missed port too, which reminded me of a thread about missing an Israeli port on a Med cruise.

I suspect that when the port was missed, everything turned to horror and nightmares, no way to satisfy.

Sorry they feel that way and it was not better for them. Maybe the next sailing chosen will be far better...

bon voyage

Am well aware of possible "glitches" as we were on the Emerald Princess following her drydock. However, I have always enjoyed my cruises and love to see the "new". What I remember from that cruise was being with friends, laughing and sharing good times. Whether or not I had hot/cold water then doesn't seem as important now. I don't tend to zero in on the "negatives" on my cruises, and we've done several, so have a realistic expectation. ;)

Please see how Bonnie posts on the Azamara board. Same position, same corporate parent and completely different. And yes, there is plenty of dialogue which is what a "social media" type person is supposed to do.

I can read marketing spin in their ads and their web site.

Also, can it be that at their level, they are either not authorized or have enough information to answer questions beyond the post, which they are sure to get from us?

Just a thought.

We have saile Millie many times in the past & always had a great cruise .with a $8,000,000 refurbishment in dry dock things will be on the better side of maybethis or maybe that :D

We are positive thinkers & we are surely going in with bright smiles :D

One thing people do need to realize: Even though the majority of the budget is geared towards specific areas of the ship that they're "upgrading", the entire ship is going to be thoroughly cleaned and repaired where needed.

That's what I call a text book example of expectations management !! :)

Well done. Good practical approach.;)

You know, you've hit the nail on the head. We cruised on Solstice awhile back - good time - and yet we much preferred our sailing on the 'older' Infinity. A great mix of pax from all over the world; one of the best pre cruise roll calls and an even friendlier bunch once we'd all met onboard. There was no blazing sun as we visited Iceland and Northern Europe, but we didn't need that added heat - we had an absolutely fabulous time :). Laughs aplenty.

Looking forward to our sailing on Millie at Christmas (after her dry dock) :).

  • 3 weeks later...
With an $8M makeover scheduled for April 2016, Celebrity Millennium is ready to stun—right alongside the ship that inspired her new look, Celebrity Solstice.

Now on Celebrity Millennium, you can relax at the chic new Rooftop Terrace, catching a movie under the stars with themed cocktails and snacks (our new A Taste of Film experience). Refuel from your exhilarating day ashore with USDA dry aged steaks and fresh-made pastas at Tuscan Grille, already a smash hit on our Solstice class ships. And recharge in our revamped Penthouse and Royal Suites, with glimmering new powder room fixtures, marble surfaces, and fabrics throughout.

But, we didn’t stop there. You’ll notice stylish new touches around every corner, from Fortunes Casino to the adults-only Solarium.

Looking at deckplans for the Rooftop Terrace and movie screen - I'm looking at the A1s which are now on the top deck and wondering if this will intrude with noise etc.

TIA

I hope that is true. We recently (Mar. 29-April 15) took the S. Pacific cruise from Sydney to Honolulu on Millennium, and our "regular" balcony stateroom (6098) needed serious attention: the bathroom floor is stained; the shower grout is stained; the toilet has a permanent ring; the balcony curtain has mold stains at the bottom. Staring at the exterior overhang while on the treadmill in the gym, I could see plants growing out of it!! To their credit, staff was continually cleaning hand rails and glass, and our stateroom was clean (aside from permanent stains).

We are on Infinity which had the refurb last fall, but they didn't finish the rooftop terrace until half way through our current cruise. We are on deck 11, AQ and hear NO noise from the rooftop terrace at all. We are in 1105 which is under some of the couches up there and have no complaints!

Milly is making her way across the ocean on her way to Vancouver and then to Victoria on Tuesday. Do the crew go on a two week vacation? Does the captain change? Wondering if there will be a fresh new crew.

I will on board her June 3rd. Please don't chip her nail polish before I arrive!

Definitely not a vacation! Check out the drydock threads on the Azamara Board to see how every member of the crew gets involved: unskilled demolition, of course the kitchen crew keeps working to feed all the workers, and anybody with no particular skills is put on fire watch. At the end of the drydock, crew members are thrilled to have customers back because their regular jobs are easier (or at least more routine) than the drydock work!

I'm glad she's getting the drydock. She needs it. When we did our Asian cruise in 2014 she wasn't looking good. Many areas of carpeting needed to be replaced, damage (vandalism) in the elevators with scratches carved into the metal and our S1 Suite was tired looking with a lot of nicks and scratches to the doors and woodwork.

We sailed her in 2008 and she looked great. I hope she looks great again after drydock.

However, I am deeply saddened about the loss of The Olympic. I had eight great meals there. The first, in 2003, still had the "Butterfly" service and the food was wonderful. The latter meals were excellent but nothing compared to the first.

Take care,

Mike

Currently on Millie sailing through the Juan de Fuca straight. Our Captain will go on vacation when we arrive in Vancouver tomorrow. He will return to Millie in July. He is the most personable Captain we have ever had. He is always walking around talking to people. Sorry you will miss him.

No, the crew will not get a 2 wk vacation. 900 of them are staying on board, doing various things. The rest will go home.

We have had 45 great days on Millie and the crew is just simply outstanding. Food has been great in Blu.

Have a great cruise.
