Anyone unknowingly board a themed cruise or even big group cruise?? Do tell! LOL

I have been twice on a themed cruise that if I would have know would not have booked the ship. Royal Caribbean will not advise you that they have a large group of any sort onboard and they knew because the compass had LGBT meeting times. I don't have anything against certain demographic groups but I would have preferred to not have my daughter witness guy on guy make out session all over the place. It seems to be getting worse on some of Royals ships leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.

that's a problem with a tacky participant, not with the group as a whole.

if anyone (same sex or opposite sex couple) are all over each other with a major make out session in a public space on the ship, it's inappropriate, and you should have said something to them.

We just participated in Arno's Bear Cruise on Liberty, and had a wonderful time, and everyone in that group was well behaved in the public places.

Most of the girls (& many of the moms were dressed like the dolls). It was creepy to see adult women dressed like a doll
Ah, so just as weird as I thought originally. Thanks for clarifying. Sounds like a bit of a nightmare tbh, but good of Celebrity to give you future cruise OBC - also I agree about the creepiness. Kids dressed as the dolls fair enough, but the moms?? :o

I was on Allure and there was a group of about 20% of the passengers attending religious seminars onboard. They were in meetings and lectures a lot of the time onboard (UGH - NOT SOMETHING I WANT TO DO ON A CRUISE!) I was sitting in the Solarium and a nice woman started talking to me - she thought I might be with the group as she was. Anyway, to each their own. They didn't bother us and hopefully they got to enjoy the cruise and got out of their meetings and lectures whatever they were seeking.

We are on a cruise in November of this year on the Norwegian Dawn. About 2 months ago we learn that it was going to be a Furry Cruise. Of course this sent us all into a frenzy trying to figure out what the heck is a Furry Cruise and how many of them are there. Well lets just say, we have had some fun conversations already. Appears that there will be about 20 of them so no big deal but if you want a good chuckle here is a link http://my.furrycruise.com/

2nd-Royal Caribbean cannot and will not tell you of certain groups sailing. Especially minority (or as they have been called "lifestyle" groups) It could lead them to a discrimination lawsuit. This happened at Walt Disney World when they warned incoming guests of the "gay days" event. The Group sued Disney, and won. It's discrimination, plain and simple.

We go to Disneyland a lot. For all the times we've gone you would think we would have known about "gay day". They all wear red shirts. So we go and my SIL is wearing a red shirt. That was about 5 years ago and we still laugh when we go and make sure we aren't wearing red. Then one year I did. Some day the joke will be over but I doubt it LOL. The only time is bothered me was this: Disneyland is a family event. Gay day and there is this couple kissing - deep dish kissing. Holding on to the others a** and b**bs. My DD had to hold me back. If you want to have sex on an outing Disneyland is really not the place to take it. Worse, they were at the entry way where you went left or right and were doing this right in the middle.

A hug here, a kiss there. Fine but keep the over the top to yourself. My DD once had a boyfriend that thought he was hot stuff. We were in the family room and he pulls her over and sticks his tongue so far down her throat I thought it would come out her toes. So after he leaves I tell her that if she ever does that again I am taking her upstairs and she will sit and watch her dad and I have sex. She was appalled that I would say such a thing. I said, if I have to watch you do sexual things I think it is only fair that you watch me. She has been married almost 13 years and to this day she barely kisses her DH in public.

I don't care about what you do in your bedroom as long as it it legal and between two (or more) consenting adults. I don't even want to think about what some people look naked and I bet they feel the same way about me. I don't need you to come out of the closet and I don't care if you stay in it or were never in it. Not my business.

I should never have to explain to my 4 YO why that guy is sticking his hand up that woman's whoha in the middle of Disneyland.

Before I get any gay comments, my son, nephew, 2 other nephews (on inlaw side) and tons of friends are gay. Love everyone of them. Gay is their sexuality not who there are.

Any small affinity group can usually be avoided/ignored on a cruise. Unfortunately, human nature being what it is, the greater the size of the group, the more a negative impact is imposed upon non-group members. Aside from having a number of ordinarily publicly available spaces reserved and not generally available - which is damn annoying; a very large group of whatever common interest tends to become more assertive as their numbers grow. Be it country music playing everywhere, left wing (or right wing) political proselytizing, alternate life-style PDA's. - whatever: I do not want a distinct accent of ANY nature imposed upon my cruise - and feel that cruise lines should make it known whenever ANY interest group of any significant size will be flavoring the experience.

We were looking into booking Freedom of the Seas 2017 westbound transatlantic from Barcelona. Found out that a gay group had reserved 600 cabins hoping to have 1200 on the cruise. Nowhere on the RCCL website does it say a large group had planned a party cruise. Nothing against gays but 1200 for 15 days is not for us. We are now on the Independence TA with just a bunch of old people like us. happy cruising

We booked a 9 day cruise for April 2018 when it first came out last year got an awesome aft cabin, then earlier this year we booked the 5 day cruise before it to make it a 14 days cruise, and even was recently able to get the same aft cabin, just found out the 9 day portion is going to be on an Ante Up Poker Cruise. Has anyone been on one of these? We are not Casino people so that won't bother us... don't want to cancel as this should be an awesome trip....

Independence 2014. There was a decent sized group of "Bear" cruisers. Large friendly fellas. They were awesome. Made the street parties on the promenade much more fun. Only issue we had is my wife's nickname for me is "Bear". Told her it'd probably be a good idea to refrain on it for the week...

Have been on several cruises with large groups-- ethnic singers, blues/country music. Worst was a first week in November 3day on Princess out of Los Angeles. Huge group of adult dodgeball players. They booked Princess because Carnival asked them never to sail them again. I'm a Carnival cruiser, they must have been horrendous to be banned from Carnival.

Wow! They must have been really bad to be exiled from Carnival. What did they do?

Is there a way to determine if a Charter has booked a cruise? Is there a thread or forum for each cruise line regarding this? I know there is a forum on the HAL site regarding charters for specific cruises, are there other forums for the other cruise lines? Just curious.

Thanks

I had a similar incident as BRUIN STEVE, we ended up on a Green Bay Packers fans/players cruise. Apparently they sail Freedom of the Seas (or at least used to, not sure if they still do) every year after football season. Not a big issue but we are HUGE Chicago Bears fans. It was even worse that year since they had won the Super Bowl. On the plus side I did get to see a Super Bowl ring up close which was pretty cool.

Grew up in Pittsburgh but owned a business in Green Bay for 27 years and always liked the unique old NFL relationship Bear & Packer Fans had, Chicago fans visiting Lambeau Field always knew to buy the Packer fan on your left and right a beer during the 1st Quarter then you made a friend and drank free for the rest of the game no matter who won. Same rule when Packer fans go to Soldier Field.

No theme cruise stories yet but was one of 5 Westerners on an all Chinese Cruise on RCL The Ovation of The Seas and loved everything about it. Favorite Cruise so far.

Well, if its a full charter, you can only book through the group.

Unfortunately, the cruise lines don't advertise if a large group has booked a cruise. All you can do is Google your cruise and see what comes up. A lot of the time, you won't notice a group. On our honeymoon, there was a large single's group. The only thing I could figure out that affected the rest of us was that one of the Anytime dining rooms was reserved after a specific hour for the group, causing a long line at the other one.

I totally agree.

I especially am annoyed when certain venues (forward observation lounges, especially), are closed for group use.

And it does impact 'outsider's', when groups tend to dominate public cruise activities on board.

Not mentioned in this thread was another annoyance to many of my fellow cruiser's....not actually a group, but rather a certain demographic (that I care not to name, to avoid offending anyone) that are heavily marketed to by certain large travel agencies in my city on a particular cruise, with cut-rate fares....

This demographic has a propensity to be extremely rude and aggressive...things like pushing ahead of handicapped people trying to enter elevator's, loading their bags with condiments, teabags, etc., from the buffet....I think you may get my drift.

When it became known on one of my roll calls a couple of years ago, it motivated many to switch their cruise to the one departing ahead of it....;)

American Girl Doll cruise & quincineara cruise. NOT a fun experience. The dolls were actually chair hogging at the pool.

Did you find out if the dolls floated or sank when they were tossed into the pool. I would have made that experiment.

Speaking of themed cruises, did anyone see the news that the rock group Boston's drummer Sib Hashian died last night of a heart attack while on stage at the Legends of Rock cruise on the MSC Divina?

Steve

Very sad! I've worked with him and he was a very nice guy.

I've never (so far as I know) been on a trip with a big group, but I was once on a 2 week cruise that included two Amish couples. The men wore long beards and hats and all four people wore traditional Amish style clothing--very modest, dark colors, jackets on the men and white aprons on the women. I couldn't help but wonder if they refused to turn on the lights in their cabins! I am assuming that they were actually Mennonites, who dress similarly but are a bit more modern.
