Royal Caribbean hints at big reveal 11.7.17

Hold out for the cancellation OBC.

 

The email about the cancellation lists OBC, if I move to the Explorer, but not a huge amount, and as I'm travelling solo they've been known to try to get away with cutting any OBC offers in half! In this case I was booked into one of the solo balcony cabins on the Ovation - which don't exist on the Explorer, so not sure what the "equivalent cabin" would be.

 

I know, I know, should phone up and get some answers, but presume they are probably being bombarded with calls today with the changes, so might wait a day or two...

More like a couple of weeks until the Alaska itineraries (along with the TP) are out.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! Mariner Of The Seas doing the 3-4 nighter from Port Canaveral is EPIC & Harmony replacing Oasis.....WOW!

Even thought I've never sailed Mariner, my sister got married on her & I got to go onboard for a few hours for the wedding & that started my obsession with cruising.

Agree.

 

There's not even a vague reference that Ovation will/can go to the same Inner Passage locations. Speculation is just that.

 

 

 

  • Celebrity Solstice, already sailing from Seattle: 1040ft length, 121ft beam
  • Coming soon: NCL Bliss 1069ft length / 136ft beam
  • Coming soon: Royal Princess 1082ft length / 125ft beam
  • Coming soon: Ovation of the Seas 1141ft length / 135ft beam
  • As a more familiar comparison... Explorer 1020ft length / 127ft beam

So between all 5 mega cruise ships, there is a total of 120ft diff in length and a total of 15 feet width.

It's very obvious the engineers at Royal Caribbean, let alone the other cruise lines and port authorities, know exactly if these ships will fit into the various Alaskan ports.

Radiance does the north/south one ways from Vancouver - has done for a few years. Much as I would like a Quantum class parked next to downtown Vancouver, pretty sure that the Ovation won't fit under the Lions Gate Bridge!

 

Hello neighbor... In my non-professional opinion, speaking with a professional on this thread below (BillH48), I think Ovation can fit. Mute point now re the Seattle deployment, but if you're interested, here's why. Too bad, Ovation would've been incredible in Vancouver

How do you know this? Are you an Alaska port authority personnel, or ship engineer? You're stating opinion as fact as if you know something you truly don't know anything about. I didn't have a tape measure and diving gear to go from side to side but this to me looked at least 3-4 ship lengths in width as Rhapsody turned 360 degrees in front of the Glacier. Explorer only 100ft shorter than Ovation has been up to Tracy Arm/Endicott no problem.

 

Parts of Dusky Sound in New Zealand are just as "tight", Ovation gets through there no problem

We have an option to received a 20% FCC based on cruise fare paid if we change to the Ovation TP. If the FCC is based on what we paid for the Explorer TP, all we had paid so far was our deposit. We were really looking forward to sailing the TP, so will wait for the itinerary details for Ovation.

Ovation TP supposed to be available for booking on 12/12/17. I'm waiting with a worm on my tongue (baited breath)

Wait, are you saying that Allure will move to Miami in 2018? I have an Allure cruise booked for August 2018.

Has it been moved to Miami? I'll keep the ship but this will determine my flights booked.

The RCCL page still shows Allure leaving from FLL?

It was announced a while back in conjunction with the Symphony of the Seas deployment. At that time RCI made it known that Allure will join Symphony OTS sailing out of Miami and from the New Terminal.

So nothing about Coco Kay at all..

 

There was an announcement on March 8th:

 

"The announcement marks a significant investment in The Bahamas, and it will include construction of a pier, additional guest features and amenities, and new opportunities for vendors and craftsmen to promote the culture of The Bahamas to visitors. The pier will be able to handle Oasis class cruise ships.

Bayley described the new additions coming to CocoCay as, "innovative" and "entertaining". He also indicated the construction will take a multi-phased approach, with some elements of the new construction ready in 2018, and construction complete sometime in 2019. In the meantime, Bayley said ships will continue to stop at CocoCay without any disruption."

Home indeed. We took our first Royal Caribbean cruise on Mariner from Port Canaveral with Captain Johnny.

How fitting, Mariner back to PC and Captain Johnny back to PC with Harmony (Assuming he stays on. He usually stays on a ship for a few years).

You don't need to work for NASA to know what's up when you are told by the Captain of Radiance that there is only 6-7 feet of margin on each side of Radiance. Standing on the upper deck and looking out...the side appeared about 30-40 feet away...down in the water...the sides are much closer.

 

While that varies depending on the season, the fjord is narrow enough that even the most skilled captain has to carefully navigate that size ship through the passage. With a larger ship like Ovation...simple 5th grade math tells you it won't fit based on the Radiance's small limitations of error. By the time mid-May rolls around, the water levels drop whereby even Radiance may or may not be allowed to navigate Tracy Arm.

 

Feel free to ask any engineer or ship's captain who is familiar with Tracy Arm Fjord. They'll confirm the same information. We actually did that upon arrival at Juneau - the port director confirmed virtually the same information.

Why was Radiance at Tracy Arm Fjord? Explorer is the ship that has been visiting Tracy Arm Fjord which is a much larger ship than the Radiance. Radiance goes to Hubbard Glacier.

I have absolutely no idea what ships can or can't fit anywhere however I have a very hard time believing that any captain would put his ship in a position where they only had 6-7 feet of clearance on either side. Somehow I suspect that there was a lot more clearance than that but telling passengers that they are 6-7 feet away makes for a whole lot better story.

 

I'm thinking that the 6-7 feet clearance is possibly the clearance they have until they reach the safety zone which may provide an additional 25, 50 or 100 feet on either side.

 

Either way you would still be correct that Ovation wouldn't fit as she would be breaching that safety zone.

You really should not doubt a Georgia Boy, when it comes to Sub-artic celestial, and geo-thermal tidal variances. They know their stuff!

Being on the Quantum, I can assure you the Quantum did not refit the Music Hall, or make any changes to it. The Casino had many slots removed, and more table games, but it is in the same area. The only other change was Johnny Rockets, and I'm sure it won't take much to change it back.

 

He probably got confused as they extended the casino by taking over the nearby Diamond lounge, and made it a high rollers venue.
