Dress code being changed without any notice

Not sure what ship/line you're referring to. Every night on Eclipse we saw the Maître D turn away slovenly dressed pax. I mean really, at night shorts & T shirt are fine for a trailer trash jamboree, but not for a line that advertises "Modern Luxury! Is it too hard to have a nice pair of slacks(Khakis & the like)decent collared shirt(long or short sleeve)nice pair of shoes. Dress down during the day is fine & expected, but at night a little proper decorum should be the rule. If not, then those pax should choose a more casual line.

Two thumbs up to this comment!

I'm so old I remember when adults didn't have to be told what was inappropriate dress for dinner out.

Celebrity doesn't help when they post poorly-worded guidelines that can appear to be at odds with what's on the website. Reading about long-sleeved shirts once onboard is a little late if you only have short-sleeved shirts with you.

And even in the "good old days" there were delineations regarding jackets/no jackets, so I don't buy that it was much different.

Can someone please explain to me how "designer JEANS" are acceptable/appropriate on a Chic night, but a dressy, collared, short sleeve polo shirt is NOT acceptable/appropriate on a Smart Casual night? Seems to me this is way backwards! I'd rather my escort be dressed in at least nice slacks rather than jeans on Chic night and see nothing wrong with the above mentioned polo shirt on smart casual nights.

Challenge Celebrity with that question. Short sleeved polo/golf shirts are acceptable on smart causal nights.

Personally, I feel ANY jeans are not acceptable on Chic nights. The polo shirt IS fine for smart casual nights.(we, however, won't wear that ourselves) If you were denied entry, you might have a aggressive Maître D. They can at their discretion set the dress codes, whether pax like them or not. That being said, we didn't see the polo shirts so we really can't comment on how acceptable they were. If they had corporate logos on them(we have some that do)it's possible they may not allow them. If you have an issue, then go to guest relations. That's what they're there to help with.

I have worn polo/golf shirts and dockers on all our recent cruises on smart casual/casual evenings. I use to wear a sports coat on smart causal evenings but stopped bringing one the last few years. I now dress the same for smart casual and casual evenings. Except on our September 2017 Infinity cruise we decided for the first time not to take formal wear. I wore dockers and golf/polo shirts every evening in the MDR. No issue at all! Hell Celebrity doesn't even list jeans as designer (?) for smart casual evenings. There's no gray area concerning sport shirt (golf/polo). Per Celebrity's website:

Smart Casual attire can be enjoyed every other night of your cruise.

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

Pants or jeans with a sport shirt that has sleeves

I saw a couple of men wearing t shirts, no collar in the MDR on chic night recently.

The daily's contradict the sign outside the actual MDR onboard.

In short, Celebrity is so consistently, inconsistent, that few people care or even take them too seriously.

There were a couple of guys eating in Luminae last week in tee shirts and shorts during the dinner hours. Designer jeans are a joke; I wouldn't dig a ditch in what some men are wearing to dinner.

What continues to be on their website and what some ships print in their dailies is inconsistent. Website still basically says that men should wear shirts with sleeves - no mention of long or short. It has been like this since they adopted their smart casual/evening chic dress code I believe. Many, like myself, wear short sleeved casual and dress shirts. Then, you have a recent daily from Eclipse that says men should wear long sleeves on evening chic nights, whereas a recent Equinox daily says long sleeves are to be worn on EVERY night. My last cruise on Reflection (Feb 2017) followed the website guidelines.

We do too. We pack what to wear before we leave. Imagine that. Little too late once we are onboard. We are doing a B2B cruise on the Equinox March 2018 and will pack IAW what is published on Celebrities website. All our evening meals are Select Dining.

Still waiting for anyone to give a definition of designer jeans.....I'll wear my Kirklands by Costco and put my untucked shirt over the label and I challenge anyone to tell the difference. By the way, I never wear jeans on a hot climate cruise, have only worn them to Alaska.

As far as this long sleeve post, it could very well be that this is another ship going rogue, we've had it happen in the past. Very difficult on passengers when they increase the dress code after people have already packed and are on the ship. As others have said just go by Celebrity web site and you should be fine, problem is which web site because they have different comments on different countries web sites.

this is only our 3rd cruise, first on Celebrity. Personally if I got to the door of any dining room and they told us we were not dressed appropriately to suit there rules. I would kindly turn out and leave and go eat in the buffet. We are not ones to make a fuss and don't care to for the dress up nights and have a 2 hour dinner. Not worth the fuss trying to figure out what to wear.

Not shooting the messenger but not buying it! Call again and talk with another Captain Club rep. and don't be shocked if you get a different answer. I'll be wearing golf/polo style shirts in the MDR in the evening except on evening chic.

Will be right there with you in similar attire in about 3 months! We always dress nicely and in what we feel is an appropriate manner, but my jacket and tie days ended a few years ago as well. But if others like to take it up a notch and keep the jackets and ties - fine, always a personal choice. Just not mine any more....

My husband and I dress smart casual on every night. He never where long sleeves, generally polo shirts short sleeves or button down. He wears khaki pants.

I generally where fancy style t-shirts and capri's for sometimes a broomstick skirt.

To us vacation is about relaxing not worrying about the way we dress or having to iron , since we are military.......we have done our fair share of dressing to impress and ironing...lol

We have never had an issue entering the MDR on any cruise line with this dress

i just got off the constellation a month ago and was in aqua and toward the front of the line on evening chic day were two guys dressed??? in sandals and sleeveless shirts... amazingly the maitre'd was going to seat them until several including me protested... so now their wives whined and said they get a seat and wait for them.... point is that even the relaxed standards of the last couple of years are not enforced or begrudgingly so... i guess the mighty dollar rules over all standards.
