Boarded Harmony today for Honeymoon---off to a negative start!

My daughter is currently an Emerald member; one point from Diamond. I would think that RCI would want to entice a young professional couple by showing their best efforts! :confused::confused::confused:

My fiancé and I are 32 and 33 years old. We are Diamond and cruise in Suites only. We are likely if we get our Diamond Bottles of water when we board without having to ask the loyalty advisor.

 

Royal doesn't care. They are billion dollar company.

 

Have them sale Crystal. They give us a bottle of Caymus for anniversaries and on birthdays Caviar breakfast.

Almost every passenger is sailing to celebrate a special occasion. Honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays and retirements are all over the ship! If they expected acknowledgement there are a selection of decor and gifts available to pre-purchase on line to be delivered to the stateroom. "Status" does not guarantee recognition. However some thoughtful planning from their loved ones could easily have provided those special moments without the attitude of privilege.

 

They seldom, if ever, "recognize" any occasion, unless you've paid for some sort of "celebration" upgrade. The last poster is correct....90% of the ship has a "special occasion" in which they are honoring on their cruise.

 

Now, if someone sent them champagne, and they don't get it by dinnertime, they need to go to customer service and see about it!

I'm curious how you all know this.

How do you like Crystal? We have two young kids so I don’t think it’s the kid friendliest line, but someday we may be able to get someone to watch them and we could go on a cruise with just me and the wife.

Our daughter and new son-in-law boarded Harmony today at 11:15. They did not receive any mention of their honeymoon. Their stateroom (Central Park balcony) was available at 1:15. When they arrived...once again no mention of the honeymoon! No welcome champagne as promised! However, they received a note and bottle of wine that said, "Happy Retirement Mom!" They notified the courtesy desk. They picked up Mom's wine and gave them a card with a reservation to the buffet at Solarium Bistro.

Yes, RCI promised a bottle of champagne, red wine or white wine at embarkation. My daughter selected champagne. :)

I think we got your daughter's champagne....when we were on the Independence in Norway about 10 days ago one day we got a tray of sweets and two days later we got bubbly and sweets.....no idea why unless they were saying they were sorry our toilets had not been flushing properly on three different days......but no note, no explanation, no nothing but a knock on the door and a nice lady handing me presents.

So your daughter is on her honeymoon and is in touch with you about all this? When I went on my honeymoon we disconnected for the week, I can't imagine texting my mom about every little detail and hiccup. Maybe just tell your daughter to enjoy her honeymoon and stop feeding off the negativity.

Honestly if I were on a honeymoon cruise the last thing I'd be doing is telling my mom about a minor hangup because I'd be too busy getting to know my husband in the biblical sense.

 

These days a lot of honeymoons follow years of living together. The newness is sort of worn out :)

A couple of years ago it was our wedding anniversary when on a cruise. We didn’t mention it to anyone, we didn’t expect anything. On the day if our anniversary we put our cards up in the cabin and went out and had a fantastic day. We went to dinner as usual and when we got back to our cabin later the door was decorated, the bed covered in rose petals and those towel swans made into a heart. A bottle of ‘champagne ‘ on ice. The next day we had a cake delivered.

All arranged by the cabin steward just because he had seen the cards. That’s what I call service.

Amazing to me why so many want to excuse a profit making enterprise for doing a poor job. A job it boasts about being the best at.

I don't believe the little mishaps amount to a negative start. I have done a number of celebrations on cruise ships in recent years. Didn't expect anything special but any token gestures were appreciated. Sometimes little mishaps have occurred and I just accept that this might happen. Not enough to ruin the celebration or the holiday.

 

Looks like there were one or two problems with booking and some kind of compensation was offered. Best to have that in writing (email) and query this with guest services if you don't get what was promised. They will usually sort this out.

 

Based on my experience, I don't believe loyalty status makes any difference. What would make a difference is booking a suite, then you might feel justified in expecting a VIP experience and usually they go the extra mile to deliver this.

OP expanded considerably in subsequent posts. For example, there was no mention in the original post as to who the champagne was promised by- could have been TA or a gifts and gear purchase. I can see why the negative posters weren’t too sympathetic originally

 

But you go right ahead with the assumption that I didn’t read the first post. Your assumption says a lot about you and nothing about me

Congratulations to your daughter and her new husband. I hope this did not deter them from having a wonderful cruise. For sure, if someone I love is celebrating a special occasion, I send something. Our friends always celebrate their wedding anniversary on a cruise. They have the highest cruise status on at least a couple of lines, but I don't expect the cruise line to remember, and am happy to recognize the occasion myself.

Similar thing happened to us. We were on Rhapsody in the Greek Isles in 2017. In the middle of the cruise was my wife's birthday. We were with a group of 10, but no one told anyone on staff. We came back from Santorini and the door of our cabin had been decorated and there were balloons and a towel birthday cake in the cabin all put there by the Cabin Steward! Our friends swear they never said anything!
