Millennium Revolution -

Having returned from the March 16th sailing, I think, all in all the refurbishment was a badly needed one and pretty nicely executed.

We stayed in a SkySuite S2 and the suite makeover was fine apart from the shower that just featured a tiny little glass panel to keep the water in which meant constant flooding of the bathroom floor. They apparently tried to compensate that by limiting the shower pressure (bath tub water pressure coming from the same faucet was great) which resulted in you standing under a lame drizzle and still flooding the floor. Although I am not a fan of shower curtains, here one is badly needed.

Sound insulation towards the neighbouring cabins was not so great. Not sure if that had something to do with the makeover of the walls or if that was a problem before, too.

The Retreat Lounge had horrible seating and no atmosphere at all. They really have to change the seatbacks of the sofas and the far to uncozy lighting, bring the frosted glass enclosure towards the "Art" Gallery back and kick those ridiculous toddler stools out, not even Kelly Hoppen MBE will be able to get her behind in 😉

Apart from that: no complaints whatsoever.

Great post Ian- Berlin- und Hallo nach Berlin ( aus Ulm) ! I am big fan of the Millenium Class- all in all i like what I have seen so far from the " Revolution"! Is that Retreat- Lounge the former Michaels Club?  If just so happens- dear god, what have they done to this once cozy, elegant lounge?

What I saw of the cabins was nicely done- and Milli- in fact all Milli- Class ships are in dire need of a " refresh"! Milli and Summit are done. Unfortunatley their destionations are not really attraktive to me!

Greetings/ Grüße

Michael

Hallo!

Yes, it is former "Michael's Club". Although MC was a bit dated, too, the change in design is just too crass in my opinion.

As for itineraries, we find the ones in Asia quite good, in other parts of the world mostly boring. That's a field Celebrity really should lern form MSC and even Princess (but only in that field, please!)

Oh yes- that change was to crass indeed! Beyond recognition! MC was a favorite of mine during the day- great place to read as it was mostly empthy during the day! I rather liked the old fasioned English- Club atmosphere!

I am about to board ( only 10 days- can´t wait) the Silhouette for her Transatlantic- or Reposition- Cruise. After five years of cruising only cunard I am very curious if I still like their product! LOL!

Can´t speak for MSC or Princess ( the later have nice ships though from the pictures I saw) , but never, ever would I make the misstake again and sail with Costa...! MSC as I heard is rather similar to Costa!

Aida- nogo- Mein Schiff- to many ( or better, only) Germans...! LOL!

Haha! Exactly right about "Mein Schiff" and "AIDA" - although especially "Mein Schiff" has probably better offerings for the Germanic taste,  BUT: too many Germans!

Would never go on Costa and MSC (ok, perhaps "MSC Yacht Club"). Done Princess many times, but their product - even on the rather new "Royal Princess" - is far inferior in almost every respect and at the same time more expensive than Celebrity's.

But that discussion is for another forum.

Enjoy your TA!

JanBerlin:

Does the SS bathroom have any additional shelves to store toiletries besides the open shelf below the sink? There use to be upper wall shelves near the toilet. Just planning for my upcoming sailing. Thanks for any info.

No. There was a space behind the bathroom door, on the left side of the toilet, which was used to place a tissue dispenser and offered enough space for a toiletry bag and other things, but there were definitely no further shelves. Much space left and right from the sink, though.

We've taken two TAs on the Silhouette (our very favorite ship), most recently her westbound TA late last fall that brought her back to the U.S. for the winter.  I think you will have a wonderful time!

"Silly" and "Edge" are our two favorites. Looking forward to the Westbound TA in October.

HI -Thanks for the comments.

How are you guys? If you remember, we (Nancy & Paula) were on the Infinity with you last year, SA through the Panama Canal.

The Retreat Lounge photo posted above looks different to me from the original renderings....which looked more like Oceania and  seemed more elegant, cozy and comfy.  Perhaps there is more to the room?

Thanks Ian and Turtels- I am sure I make the best of it. In my book there is no such thing as a  " bad cruise" - LOL! I hope X has at least turned the volume of the music in the lounges a bit down- that, among other little things drove me to Cunard in the first place. LOL!

  • We were on the Feb 16 Sailing from Hong Kong to Singapore in a CS. If you look at the pic of the retreat lounge - count the number of CCTV cameras in the ceiling. The room has an unusually large number. I asked one of the officers at the Senior Officers party and he said they are planning for other functionality in the future. But remember the lounge is just down from the Casino so they may be looking to use it as  "High Rollers Lounge" in the future. RCL did this with Ovation of the seas - the Diamond Lounge was a "High Rollers" room during it's Asia cruise season and went back to being the Diamond Lounge during her Australia/New Zealand season.

Has anyone seen any pictures of the new family veranda? We are going to Alaska in July and have cabin 9158 booked! I have been scouring the internet but have been unable to find any pictures!

Buckeye,

Go to the Summit Revolution Thread  Page 19.  See posts 467 and 475.  There are several updated photos of the cabin.

I think it's really unfortunate that with all the updates there wasn't a bit more thought put into function. My family traveled to London for the first time in March and we stayed in an AirBnB that had the same deep tub situation with a half glass wall that functioned as a water barrier for the shower. It worked because the glass was long enough, but it also was an accordion style glass barrier so that you could move it out of the way to get in and out of the tub easier. I wonder if that was the issue? They needed to leave too big of an opening with a stationary glass wall... Whatever...just expressing disappointment in how so many things are "improved" in this world. Not. The big question will be if they do this same "improvement" with the future revolutions.

The Retreat Lounge chairs do not look too comfortable.  Did they remove the piano?  Do you have another picture of the Retreat L showing the bar area?

No piano anymore. Didn't take a picture of the bar area, but nobody wanted to sit there. Was more or less a service staff area.

Wow, 65+ pages - I scanned many, but hope someone can answer a couple of specific questions to which I I was not able to find an answer:

Background: We plan to sail on the Equinox fall of 2020; post-Revolution. So my questions are directed to a ship that has already completed the Revolution/Refurishment. We generally book a mid-category balcony cabin. For instance, 2B - C3. We are older and the cabin and its amenities and especially the balcony are important to us.

-Pictures would be really helpful; but words are great also

Q. Please describe the patio furniture. We enjoy coffee each morning, and a cocktail on the balcony each evening. We spend time on the balcony reading, etc. We think the Celeb/RCI furniture we have had on the mid-category balcony cabins is fine: Two reclining deck chairs, nice wood table, balcony door that slides rather than swings.

Q. Please describe the head (aka "bathroom" fixtures). We think the pre-Revolution look is fine. We are concerned mainly with the size, shape of the shower and its shower head.

Q. Do these cabins have the glass-fronted storage areas?

Q. How well did the "wireless/easy access/no card" cabin keys work?

Thanks very much for help any post-Revolution cruiser can offer.

PS - We've sailed on the Celeb Silhouette and RCI Serenade in the last year or so; really liked what we had.😎

I don't think you can compare the Revolutionized Millennium and Summit to what Equinox will be like post Revolution.  Millennium and Summit dry docks were very extensive as far as redoing the cabins.  Equinox will be less so, especially in balcony cabins.  I'm sure there will be plenty of reviews of Equinox when it comes out of dry dock in June.  BTW, we are on Equinox later this year too.
