hannahsnana Posted May 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2019 We are currently sailing on Allure. This cruise was booked after the cancellation of our Oasis cruise, after which we booked a boardwalk balcony cabin on Allure as choices were limited. Everything was going OK with a few minor problems until last night. They had informed guests they were rewarding crew members for a 99% rating on their last inspection by allowing them access to the Boardwalk from 8:00 til 12:00 last night. That seemed OK to us until we returned to our cabin at 9:30 after dinner and a show. The noise from the Boardwalk with the door closed was unbearable to even sit and watch tv, much less go to sleep. There was a reggae band blasting music and a person singing, yelling , and more from the crowd. After dealing with it for a while, I called guest services and they said they’d send security to our room! What? My husband went down to guests services at 10:30 to complain again. They took his complaint and said it would stop at 11:00, which it did. If we had been outside in the hall making such noise , I’m sure there would have been security there right away! Needless to say, I am not happy with the situation that unfolded and are going to request compensation for several hours of interrupted calm in my cabin, much less the lack of sleep. By the way, when they did shut it down , the singer yelled out somebody closed them down! Yes, a paying guest! 2

That could have happened on any night by any group, not just the crew - one of the chances you take booking a Boardwalk balcony.
hannahsnana Posted May 17, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted May 17, 2019 You are correct about events going on, and there have been shows, movies, line dancing that have gone on. They did not reach the threshold of this event. This , however, was extreme noise , much more than anything we’ve experienced this week. That is my complaint about the extreme shouting, music ,etc.

A small child? You know if that’s the worst thing that happened on your cruise then you had a FABULOUS cruise Edited May 17, 2019 by CasinoCruzGirl

ShillyShally Posted May 17, 2019 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2019 It's still a valid complaint. Yes, booking a boardwalk balcony you can be expected to hear noise, even with the cabin door closed, but rarely that late at night and they'd control the noise more for a passenger event. I appreciate them wanting to let the crew have a party but don't know that's the right venue. I'm certainly not going to judge the OP's experience since I wasn't there.
mek Posted May 17, 2019 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2019 I've been in a Boardwalk cabin on Allure and yes, there is noise in the evening. Personally I think 9:30 is way too early to expect not having much if you have one of these cabins - after 11pm, yes, but not earlier. This is a party area with lots of activity - IMHO, buyer beware. I'm not sure how I feel about a crew party for an area that should be reserved for guests, but the noise would not be an issue for me.

Me too, I would be OK if they didn't totally take over the area. Excessive noise I would be unhappy with but I don't think I would be back in my cabin at 9:30 pm
gerif Posted May 17, 2019 #9 Share Posted May 17, 2019 Perhaps a Central Park cabin would be more your style? I really don’t think 11:00 is an outrageous time at all. Seriously, what are you looking for to compensate for a couple of hours? If this is your only problem, then you don’t have a problem.
Sherri914 Posted May 17, 2019 #10 Share Posted May 17, 2019 I probably would've been out on my balcony enjoying the band and festivities, but that's just me. If this were a regular occurrence - meaning the staff being permitted 'party' space in guest areas on more than this rare occasion - that might give me cause for aggravation. But sounds to me like this was a well-deserved and singular occurrence, so i don't think it would bother me in the least. 11pm is a respectable time for any party that might disrupt sleep to wind down.

Since they booked last minute after their other cruise was canceled, I doubt they had many options. The OP said there were limited options and they took the boardwalk balcony as a result. But I agree 11 seems reasonable to shut down loud parties. And I would definitely not be looking for any compensation for what amounted to 2 hours of noise in an open space on a cruise.
Cru1s1ng2009 Posted May 17, 2019 #12 Share Posted May 17, 2019 Sheesh. Get over it. It was 930-11. Complain if you want but expecting compensation?

Unreasonable and unrealistic expectations on a cruise ship with the demographics that they market to. Time to move on to a quieter, more laid back atmosphere style of vacation/holiday.
queenfrostine22 Posted May 17, 2019 #15 Share Posted May 17, 2019 I guess some people do go to sleep at 9:30 I'm not that person. It was over at 11. The venue should have been different but it was over at 11. It was over at 11! It was over at 11! Maybe the compensation should be free earplugs.
nalatrixie74 Posted May 17, 2019 #16 Share Posted May 17, 2019 the original post said it was supposed to last until midnight but it does seem they could have found a bit better public space to give the crew a party, by the pools, or helicopter pad, idk. 11 isn't too unreasonable, just seems some ppl would be a bit upset at the noise level right there by their rooms. cruisegirl1976 Posted May 17, 2019 #17 Share Posted May 17, 2019 The crew works very hard.. day and night.. and are often away from their families for months at a time.. so they had some well deserved fun.. and it wasn't until 2am in the morning... it was a few hours.. not really a big deal imho..
Rare kernow Posted May 17, 2019 #18 Share Posted May 17, 2019 I think I would have poured myself a glass of wine and gone out on the balcony and watched the crew enjoying themselves. They certainly deserve some fun considering how hard they work. As long as it was all over by 11 I don't think you have any complaint.

DirtyDawg Posted May 17, 2019 #20 Share Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) Sorry OP, it looks like you won't be getting much sympathy here. I think HAL might be a better cruise line fit for you, but if RCL does offer you a free cruise for your troubles, try to see if you could book with Celebrity instead. Both lines are owed by the same parent company and Celebrity is much quieter. Edited May 17, 2019 by DirtyDawg

Starry Eyes Posted May 17, 2019 #23 Share Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) OP, from reading your post, it seems you like to retire to your cabin early for some peace and quiet. If you are sensitive to evening noise, Boardwalk was a poor choice for you. Last minute or not, your cabin selection simply did suit your cruising style. Your mistake. Live and learn. Buy some good earplugs and get over it. On the bright side, you do not have loud neighbors or a crying baby making noise at those same hours every single night. We also tend to return to our cabin early. On one cruise, the elderly people in the next cabin had their TV on very loud each evening, so loud it might as well have been in our cabin. Other times there have been rowdy children or a colicky baby next door. Sometime noise comes from overhead. We are not especially noice sensitive, but sometimes it has been quite memorable. I imagine a noice sensitive person would have been quite unhappy during those episodes. Needless to say, we long ago learned to pack earplugs on every trip, cruise or otherwise. Rarely do we use them, but we have them if we need them. Edited May 17, 2019 by Starry Eyes
