Love the way captain Kate interacts with the customers. Sorry that the edge is getting her instead of us going on the equinox.

Read somewhere that "X" now has a 2nd female captain. Let's hope she's as good!

I will freely admit that I am strongly considering changing my Feb 2020 Equinox Eastern to the Edge Western leaving the next day for a variety of reasons, Capt Kate being one of the larger ones.

I pointed out she has a jewelry line she specifically stands in the jewelry store pitching prospective buyers. This is no rumor. Furthermore I mentioned nothing about where proceeds go. If the ship ran aground while she was busy pitching jewelry it would not look good for her in the media would it?

rolloman, my apologies for the confusion.  I did not doubt you that she was in the jewelry shop promoting jewelry.  I stated that I did not believe that Celebrity would allow her to promote her own personal line of jewelry.  That is the rumor that people will believe.  It seems she was promoting a brand Celebrity carries with stories for the passengers.  I myself do not have much of an issue with that but I can see why some might have one.  A captain is not always on the Bridge but has plenty of experienced officers running the ship at all times.

Be prepared to pay at least 50% more to sail on the Edge.

The Edge is a beautiful ship but unless the prices come down we won’t be sailing on it again.

We paid $1750 pp for AQ doing a 7 day cruise.   At that time we thought it was high compared other X ships for the same time and area.   Within 2 weeks the prices increased to $3900 pp for the same AQ cat.  They have dropped some but not enough.

We are back sailing the Equinox, Infinity,  and Reflection.   Can’t say that Capt Kate is any better than Capt Leo, Demitri and etc.   wouldn’t pay extra because of her

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Like I said, she is not the only reason. A completely new itinerary to me is a big one.

Of course I may go back to my trusted Disney where I know how things are and I know I will not have to worry about my wheat allergy. Having had a RCCL (I know different line - but same company) tell me that farro was perfectly safe (and seeing it marked gf - I knew better and was just pointing it out to him) on a cruise last summer I am not 100% confident in anything under the RCCL Corp to get it right.

Just a question for those that have sailed on the Equinox and the Reflection recently. We found the Reflection not to be any where near as crowded. Is it just us? The Equinox was packed. I mean packed. Maybe the Reflection was not sailing full.

I hate to tell you, but all the captains are involved in pitching the jewelry lines.

I found the Reflection to be more crowded than the  Equinox.   This has been especially true in Blu and at the buffet.

The Reflection has more capacity, under normal circumstances it will be more crowded.

I would greatly enjoy seeing your proof to back up this statement....again...close to 100 cruises under my belt with a wife who  loves to hang out in the jewelry section and I have never seen it in the store, never seen it on tv or ashore nor have I ever heard it over the announcements.

I agree that the Captain of the vessel needs to maintain a professional relationship with the passengers. I have always found it strange how people talk about her as if she’s a personal friend. The fact that she is selling her own personal line of jewelry just leaves me almost speechless. How can that be allowed to happen?

She's the only captain on any ship we've sailed that was at the gangway on disembarkation shaking hands and thanking people for sailing with her.

Would appreciate knowing about the free drinks in the casino.  Have not sailed Celebrity for several years and will be back on the Equinox in Novemeber.  Thanks.

I found out about it while reading the daily onboard and about fell out of my chair. It said free drinks while gaming. That evening I went down to the casino and asked the waitstaff circulating the floor and he said its free so I wasted no time ordering lol. I am confident it is the same drink menu as the one found in the nightly Elite Event. Which is basically simple cocktails using Absolute, Bacardi, ect. and beer is Bud, Heineken and the wine is White Zinfandel, sparkling wine.

Sounds like she would make a top notch cruise director. Since it appears that she has so much free time they could combine the two jobs cruise ship captain/cruise director.

I wouldn't know how much time a captain has to spare but my humble impression of her is that she's a very high energy person. Maybe she's just better at time management because of it.

Dear G, I give her a lot of credit. She is truly a 'SUPERWOMEN'. I hope she never burns out!

Personally, I think she is a great Captain. There are many refreshing ideas/actions she conducts which are out of the norm. However,  I also think by being so different, she is exposing herself to situations which make her vulnerable. Think about what has happened the past few years in cruising.....lots of craziness, lots of lawsuits. These events are not going to go away. It has never been easier to go on a cruise. There are people who have an agenda which does not include having fun.  I know I would not want to be a Captain....that is for sure. I wish her the best of luck and look forward to cruising again with her on the Edge later this year.

Dear Rollo, Please elaborate," on people who have an agenda which does not include having fun."  I am on these CC boards to learn from those more 'seasoned' travelers. Trying to avoid the pitfalls of paying a premium price for an inferior product. I have learned, for example, to avoid RCCL suite class due to NSPP (Non-Suite Pinnacle Passengers) that are allowed to use suite venues and intimidate staff to the detriment of suite paying guests. I also learned that NCL Haven guests are 'encouraged' not to use the Haven restaurant and instead use Specialty Dining venues. I have failed to 'learn' anything of 'craziness' on Celebrity Equinox, nor have I read anything of 'lawsuits' resulting from ones voyage on MSC Yacht Club. We will maybe run into you on the Edge if you are on Thanksgiving and you may feel more comfortable relaying your impressions then. Thank you for any insight.

You must have never sailed with Captain Leo. He along with the Hotel Director were on the gangplank thanking us for sailing on Eclipse in February 2017.

Great! I will see you onboard and we can chat in our roll call leading up to our turkey day cruise!

No, we have sailed with Captain Leo. He was great but I don't recall him being at the gangway.

Well I've seen it many times.  Advertised in the Daily, etc.  Celebrity only does an announcement once a day.  Maybe you're thinking of another line.
