I did my first slot pull on the Grandeur to Bermuda last April.  It was so much fun!  I have no problem with the organizer getting the points.  She put a lot of work into it and it was a blast.

The points I make during a slot pull are nothing compared to my play points. Try running one and you will see that for yourself.

I do find it ironic that people have no problem with other organizers adding to their wine funds but I will chase people down to pay them and I’m the one that’s being sniped at.

It wasn't an insult or a complaint in the least, I just commented in agreement with someone else who posted that it never occurred to me that it could be a lucrative thing. I am so sorry you thought it was insulting or against you somehow (although I am not sure why).  Actually I just responded to a comment made days ago and my reply had nothing to do with anyone personally. I think it's great that you are able to turn casino play into something tangible, I have no issues with it, it's a positive thing in my view.  But the comment that elicited mine gave me a new perspective and so I commented on that.

No, I got into the internet thing about 1990 when you had to use a 14.4k baud dial up modem to connect to AOL. Cruise Critic used to be an AOL chat room only. If you didn't subscribe to AOL, you didn't have access to Cruise critic.

Anyway, I was a J.R.R. Tolkien fan in my high school days (70's) back when an oz. was $20 😲. When I selected a sign on name, I wanted Frodo but it was taken, so added my initials to the front end.

Yup, that would be me.  I have other things to do on a cruise than to chase people down who don't stick around to collect their winnings.  If they have other things to do, so do I.  If they can't get someone to collect their winnings for them, so sad, too bad.  Wine Fund.    🍷

I understand. I was just making a point that I go above and beyond and people are having a go at me. I do agree  with what you said about them not returning the ticket I would do the same thing but I also would have the cabin number and the name so if they could produce their card showing that name I would give them their money.

That's good. I just didn't want you to think that was anything other than "hmmmm  I never thought of that." 🙂 I would think those "points" being an issue (in terms of need) would apply to people who don't play a lot or just moderately. At the level you play or some of my cruising friends, it would not matter one bit.  It was just a factor that I had not considered.

I don't remember if there was a monthly fee.  But a cost per minute to be logged in.  And in the beginning, there were different prices for different connection speeds.

I've seen it done a few ways. The organizer uses their card, or each participant puts their card in when they do their turn. Makes no difference to me either way. I'm just all about the fun.

....but I will still take $300 to play on my next cruise.  I have fun making and losing money while on vacation.  I don’t go to the spa , I don’t go on excursions, the evenings in the casino are fun.

Cruise ships ported here in the US are not regulated by the United States....so the rules you are used to ( say in Vegas), do not apply. The ships are supposed to be regulated by the country in which they are flagged. Good luck with that....I consider myself to have been extremely fortunate the very few times I came home a winner (more money than I brought onboard) while at sea. Out of almost 100 cruises, I can count those on one hand. I think Carnival has more fun in their casinos....lots of drawings, events....premier/ultra invites. The moral of the story is...go into the casino to have some fun and if you get up by a 100 bucks...leave and spend it on something fun like an excursion or specialty dining night. I know, I know.....easier said than done...

Yes, now 36 years later, you answered why I didn't use Compuserve.  As a kid that didn't have two pennies to rub together, I definitely couldn't pay for online access.  

 

My first computer was a hand me down vic 20 and peripherals donated by my cousin when he upgraded.

 

Brings back great memories and a much simpler time.

Pretty much the same as Laura using my seapass to earn me a benefit tier while she gambles. Or is that OK with you as well. 🤔

I always ‘felt’ that the payout was less, but sort of assumed that it was just me.  It is interesting to know that the regulation might make the payout less.  I am even more suspicious of that ‘good’ payout on the first night.  Is the rate of payout better on the first night to get everyone keen???  

 

Find that the poker machines that we would not touch at home are the best machines in ship casinos have been better to play because you spend at a much slower rate.

Honestly I couldn't care less what you or your wife do on a cruise or anywhere else for that matter. It does not affect me in any way, shape or form so if you have a problem with the way I run a slot pull, just don’t join.

I have questioned that myself in the past but my biggest jackpots have all been on the last day/s of the cruise.
