Pickels Posted November 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2019 I tried to post this before but couldn't find it; here it is; this power/charging chord was accepted by the cruise line on our previous cruise.
Fouremco Posted November 17, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2019 The lack of surge suppression is probably why it is considered acceptable. I have a similar power strip, albeit not round, that I've had no problem bringing aboard various lines. It too has no surge suppressor.
helen haywood Posted November 17, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2019 That photo looks like it does have a third prong. So I thought that meant it wouldn’t be allowed.

So having a third prong doesn't in and of itself preclude an item.
helen haywood Posted November 17, 2019 #5 Share Posted November 17, 2019 So what criteria do the staff use to decide whether to allow your cord?
SoCalTraveler Posted November 17, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2019 We were just on a cruise and our non-surge protected power strip was confiscated.
Rare cruisestitch Posted November 17, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2019 Keep in mind that the decision whether or not to allow a power cord is made by contract employees in the various terminals, be they in Miami, Vancouver, Fort Lauderdale, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Venice, or wherever. They are not Celebrity employees, they work for the port and they are following a set of guidelines which actually vary from cruise line to cruise line. It is not surprising that there is inconsistency on what is allowed to be taken aboard and what is not.

Cruisenouvelle Posted November 18, 2019 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2019 We have the exact same one! Works well.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted November 18, 2019 #10 Share Posted November 18, 2019 I'm sure many may be able to get an extension through security and others will have it confiscated. I've stopped playing the game and just request one from my stateroom attendant or butler and it is there within hours. I've even had them ask me if I needed a power strip which I politely accepted.

Oville Posted November 18, 2019 #12 Share Posted November 18, 2019 Interesting topic. We took our first cruise on Celebrity in November 2008. Thirty seven cruises later and the basic brown extension cords (6ft and 12 ft) we always take have never been questioned.
TeaBag Posted November 18, 2019 #13 Share Posted November 18, 2019 We have taken an extension cord and a power bar since 1994 and they have never been confiscated till sailing Summit last month. They were taken by the port authority who said it was a Royal Caribbean policy not to allow them.
slim501 Posted November 18, 2019 #14 Share Posted November 18, 2019 We had ours confiscated last week on the Summit and it was similar to that. We had taken it on prior cruises, but last week they took it.
Wolf 8 Posted November 18, 2019 #15 Share Posted November 18, 2019 After reading everyone's posts we've decided not to pack a power strip in our luggage. Our Silhouette veranda (12/13/19 departure) has at least 2 US outlets and we're still lucid enough to keep 2 phones, 1 laptop and a DSLR charged. Standing in the luggage, "Naughty line" due to of a rogue power cord instead of partying on embarkation day isn't our idea of a good time.
Pickels Posted November 19, 2019 Author #16 Share Posted November 19, 2019 what's not shown in the picture; I also place a note on top of the charger: NOT SURGE-SURPRESSOR
I_r_a Posted November 19, 2019 #17 Share Posted November 19, 2019 We saved weight by asking the stewardess for a power cord, which she readily supplied. Ira
phoenix_dream Posted November 19, 2019 #18 Share Posted November 19, 2019 As others have indicated, Celebrity is famous for their consistent inconsistency in whether these types of things get confiscated. Sometimes they do; sometimes they don't. Wish we could give you a firm answer but it is not possible
WestLakeGirl Posted November 19, 2019 #19 Share Posted November 19, 2019 Celebrity is pretty consistent, but the people employed in the terminals are not. Sometimes they work for Royal Caribbean, sometimes they work for Celebrity, sometimes they work for all the different cruise lines and each line has its own rules and regulations, so no wonder they get mixed up. davekathy Posted November 19, 2019 #20 Share Posted November 19, 2019 The problem is what Celebrity's posted in the "what not to pack" and it only calls out electrical extension cords. To me that leaves it up to the discretion of the person running your carry on or checked luggage thru the scanners at the different embarkation ports. Why not say with or without a surge suppressor. YoHoHo Posted January 20, 2020 #21 Share Posted January 20, 2020 I want an extension cord for CPAP use. If they will confiscate it is good to know the room attendant will provide one. Will they also provide distilled water (off topic I know )??

luv2travel90266 Posted January 20, 2020 #23 Share Posted January 20, 2020 I have had a non-surge protected power strip taken out of my luggage by the ship too. I now carry one of these which seems to get under the radar.

I use a CPAP and emailed them that I needed an extension cord. They responded in about 4 days and told me the extension cord and distilled water would be in my cabin at no extra cost. I thought they would charge for the distilled water. I cruise Hal allot and they charge $ 4.95 for a gallon.
