Corona virus RCI policy

Recommended Posts

Thank you 🙂

I did just read this as well

"Across our fleet, boarding will be denied to guests or crewmembers who have traveled to the Hubei Province in China. Any guests who have transited through other regions in China in the past 14 days will receive secondary medical screenings to determine sailing eligibility. We have temporarily postponed the return of crewmembers who reside in China.

"We continue to closely monitor the situation and have contingency plans in place to react as necessary."

Russia just announced this morning that they are closing their eastern border with China.  Hate to say this, but maybe they need to stop people coming and going until this is under control.  Problem is no one really knows how bad it is because the Chinese govt. isn’t exactly forthcoming.

I also realize how how hard this would be to do..if not impossible.

Im on Oasis right now and saw the crew steaming the hallway walls and handrails. Never seen that before. I asked the stateroom atendant and he said it was normal? Has anyone seen that before?

Well at least they are on top of things!

Side Note : The company I work for has been selling 5 times the amount of sanitizer products this past week.

As an RN who spent a few years of my career in Infection Control, I think that is excellent advice. Common sense prevention with good hand washing is the best advice. Again mask should only be needed if you are sick and want to avoid spreading whatever you have. Using a mask to avoid getting sick isn't really helpful at all.

I am an industrial hygienist and your last sentence is not correct, unless you are talking ONLY about a surgical mask type device.

A common surgical mask is not to protect the person wearing it, but the people they come in contact with.

A proper N95 respirator does both.  It protects the wearer by filtering the air they breath in.  And it protects others in the same way a surgical mask does, but capturing many of the particles exhaled or expelled from the mouth.  Those particles tend to move in a straight line and impact the surface of the mask or respirator.

Well there are 36 PUI maybe in those 36 are some in Florida.

I always wonder if those flat mask really protect 😷, I would think you need like an N95 mask.

But masks protect the person with the illness, stopping the spread, versus those not affected.  Does more to stop Does little to stop the receiving end.  However, it is a good additional backup to washing hands and using disinfectant wipes.

I asked a (cute)fellow worker,

" If I stopped breathing , would you give me mouth-to-mouth respiration ?"

She replied, "I would pray for you." LOL

A little levity  thank you. Back to getting real, The CDC has suggested that a switch to Modelo Negra or Pacifico would stop the Coronavirus in its tracks.

For all you "infection specialists" out there, can you explain the difference between Airborne Precautions and Droplet Precautions?

Because from my knowledge of disease transmission, these are two very different things.  And I know that the hospitals in my area treat them as two different things.  And I know that the CDC treats them as two different things

I have seen no indication that coronavirus has been changed from Droplet to Airborne status.  Therefore, an N95 mask or respirator system is not necessary.  Don't get sneezed/coughed on and wash your hands.

We are booked on the Quantum departing Singapore on March 22nd for a Malaysia and Thailand short cruise. Our flights to Singapore are connecting through Hong Kong, and we were contemplating canceling the cruise. Looks like Royal made the decision for us. We just received an email that states if you are just even transiting through Hong Kong within 15 days to arrive at the Embarkation port you will be denied boarding.

We now just need American Airlines to allow refunds without penalties. Currently they are doing that for Hong Kong transiting customers ONLY up to February 29th; we are connecting in HK on March 18th. I'm sure the airline's policy will change. This is all a mess!

Edit:

I just re-read the email and it says this policy applies to ALL of Royal's ships!

They are different and I haven't seen anything regarding the coronavirus being Airborne either.

Droplet precautions are used for illnesses transmitted by respiratory droplets generally from coughing or sneezing. Influenza, Rubella, Mumps, and Pertussis  are transmitted this way. A fluid shield type mask is used for protection from these illnesses. If hospitalized, these patients are placed in isolation room.

In an Airborne illness, the infectious agent is carried through the air. Examples are Tuberculosis, Measles, Chickenpox, and SARS. These are the illness which would require an N95 or respirator type mask. In the hospital, these patients would be placed in a negative pressure isolation room.

Our 9 day cruise on Quantum on 2/24 has been switched to originating out of Singapore, turning into a 9 day roundtrip out of Singapore, as is the previous cruise, 2/15.  Our cruise had to eliminate the stop in Ilocos, were informed we can get up to $200 per person for airline change fees to fly to Singapore instead of Hong Kong.

Got the same kind of letter for our 2/24 Quantum out of Hong Kong.  The cruise will now start in Singapore instead, and end in Singapore.  The 9 day 2/15 Quantum out of Singapore was scheduled to end in Hong Kong,  but will instead return to DSingapore.  The 2/24 cruise had to eliminate the Philippines stop in Ilocos to get back to Singapore for the 3/4 boarding.  We have been offered a $200 per person fee reimbursement to change our flight from Hong Kong to Singapore to start the cruise.
