yerdsyerds Posted February 7, 2020 #51 Share Posted February 7, 2020 You can see live on CNN that they are letting people off the ship. Right now, at 8:01am eastern time.

But if they did, this could be one of those moments look back on "remember where you were" when learned pax walked off Anthem and the US got started on a massive epidemic that killed many and tanked the economy etc. Or perhaps that's too dramatic, just so many unknowns and so dependent on China for medicine and medical supplies, scary stuff. I don’t usually get too excited about things but this has me thinking about all of these things you mentioned.

Nobody allowed off currently but have been told the self-assist people will be allowed off shortly. I’m sorry but that is beyond irresponsible. Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted February 7, 2020 Author #56 Share Posted February 7, 2020 I am floored people are debarking. I can only hope rcl is on top of this with information we don’t yet have. Rcl can do themselves a HUGE favor by offering 💯 future cruise credit to those about to embark. If people get on, it’s on them. If anthem needs to quarantine next cruise, there would be less people to manage. remember- diamond princess didn’t go into quarantine until several days AFTER ground zero patient tested positive on the mainland. I’m young and healthy and would likely not board Unless I was given additional information about the Chinese passengers (specifically, what day did they fly out of China and have they received CoV testing back yet). I can’t imagine taking a child, elderly, or someone with compromised immune system. Obviously that’s just me- perhaps I’m too cautious.

mlmc424 Posted February 7, 2020 #58 Share Posted February 7, 2020 Agree with BermudaBound20. We are also amazed they are letting people off. I don’t think we will board today - we are both in our 70’s and it’s not worth the risk.

The tests have to be sent to a Lab in Atlanta. It took a day or two before the case at Bellevue came back negative. If for the entire or most of the cruise, the rest of the passengers are probably okay. Lets remember here that there have been upwards of 5 million reported cases of this year's flu in this country and supposedly around 100,000 deaths. Not sure if those are official statistics, but regardless of source, these viruses spread via the air. SARS was animal to human. Coronavisrus appears to be human to human. So not sure where bats, snakes pangolins, dogs, cats, rats, etc. fit in on the transmission timeline. And while some applaud the quick build of emergency hospitals, remember China's state run healthcare system isn't that robust. And they still practice "ancient Chinese medicine" even though modern science has proven time and again, these treatments are bogus.

cgags47 Posted February 7, 2020 #63 Share Posted February 7, 2020 Let’s also not forget that the CDC has been working with RCI on this. I don’t think the CDC would have allowed disembarkation if there was reason to be alarmed.

Even with the unlikely chance that you did get sick you would probably be taken to US hospital. I think it is worse if you are half way around the world (logistically). kearney Posted February 7, 2020 #71 Share Posted February 7, 2020 It is disturbing if passengers allowed off ship before others diagnosed, IF that is the case. Virus can be spread by those with no symptoms. The patient from Diamond Princess had not been on mainland China, but his wife had...she had no symptoms. That ship now has 61 cases. We are cruising in a few weeks. I had not been concerned, but now wonder...

The authorities will have given the go ahead for this. Only time will tell if this is the right one or not.
Plum Happy Posted February 7, 2020 #74 Share Posted February 7, 2020 Wow, so many people are in panic mode. None of you who are in hysterics even know what part of China they came from. They could have come from Beijing which is not in that area. Calm down and allow those responsible handle this. The person taken off could have had other injuries. Slow your roll on the hysteria.
