Refund Status for canceled cruises: Retitled after merges

FYI, Princess claimed to both reporters that we had been kept informed by email and "sent" a "letter." Never once in the past 100 days have I been sent an email or letter by Princess regarding refunds, except as an auto-reply in response to my requests. Everyone else on my voyage reports the same. Their June 22 "letter" was posted on Facebook and their site, but not sent to any of us. I'm very much looking forward to seeing if their other claim -- that I will be receiving my refund 5-7 business days from June 19 -- turns out to be true.

Great articles - hope your refund comes through as "promised". I was also told mine was processing on June 23rd, so will keep a look out to see if that was true or just another way to fob me off. I do have temp credits issued by my credit card company, so not overly concerned about Princess anymore. Having said that, I DID file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding the second cancellation - that was only a deposit and I requested THREE times to have the double FCC rather than a refund (twice by email and once by phone). They ended up refunding me - ironically this was an August sailing, yet still nothing refunded for a March sailing....what are they thinking????

Thanks for sharing the link to the USA Today article.  I had seen the CNN story earlier today but had not seen the other one.

 

I agree that the communication aspects have been a failure.  The only thing I had gotten from Princess about refunds was an email from them on May 5th asking about option 1 or 2 for our cruise cancelled as a part of pause 1, that's it.  Thankfully I was fully reimbursed by the time day 104 rolled around.

 

Hoping you and other in transit passengers receive what you are owed very soon.

Today, my credit card company resolved the dispute in my favor and made my conditional credits permanent.  Initially, my credit card company said that if they did not hear from Princess by 7/15, they would resolve it in my favor at that date.  When I chatted with them a few weeks ago, they moved the date to 6/29 and sure enough, they did  The credit card company definitely works in a different mode than Princess who says they'll do something by a certain date but pushes it out.

 

My cruise was on the Sky Princess 3/28; I cancelled on 2/25 before Princess did after I saw what happened on the Diamond Princess.

Now at day 104. Pause 1 Option 1

 

2 cruises (1) May 8/2020 (1 night) and (2) May 9/2020 (7 nights) FCC's credited June 1/2020, but no sign of refunds back to CC.

I have a question re: refunds

 

Cruise 2 above - fully paid for with promotion by Princess for pre-paid gratuities. Will these gratuities get refunded, even though offered by Princess as a promotion?

Since it was a promo by Princess your pre-paid gratuities will not be refunded.

I cancelled March 19. I was in the ‘window’ of only forfeiting my deposit as a FCC and requested a refund back to my CC for the full balance.  It has now been 97 days since I cancelled it with no refund.

i was told it would be 60 days, then 60 business days then I was told they were refunding according to cruise date.  But I’ve seen many posts of cruise dates after mine that have already been received.

Ive sailed numerous cruises with a Princess and I’m at the point of saying no more cruise with them.

Update on this - I spoke with princess today and they said our refund was issued on Friday, June 26.  So anyone that was sailing on the Ruby princess sailing to Alaska on May 23, 2020, they are now working on that particular cruise refunds.

Still waiting for refunds of our Ruby Princess May 9, 2020 cruise to Alaska, which again shows no rhyme or reason for the process in which Princess are doing refunds. Mine is a simple transaction back to one credit card of just taxes/port fees and Princess Platinum Protection insurance, now at 104 days and counting!

HI All

I have been following this thread for some time now. I just received my 200 refund for my deposit which I paid for on credit. I have another 1300 on gift cards and waiting to hear back from gift card support as I need a new card for them to attach the fund to. I am still waiting to hear back from them.  I cancelled on March 10 and was scheduled to sail out of Vancouver to Alaska Jun 27.

I understand your frustration. I am still waiting for the refunds for my family cruise (5 cabins) Wednesday, July 1st will be 12 weeks, since I cancelled . I was told it would take longer than normal so expect a refund in 4 to 6 weeks.

The story keeps changing daily.  We were cancelled by Princess in April.  Our cruise was May 20, 2020 --- no refund yet.  We have been told that cruises are being refunded in the order of voyage --- date order.  Know that is not true as refund dates have been all over the place --- many after our sailing date.  There are numerous cruisers who are way ahead of us who have not received anything --- wish you luck.

Original refund request date: 03/27/2020

Original cruise date: 04/12/2020 - Eastern Caribbean 7-day

 

YES - Received refund from Princess (back to original CC used) last week 06/22/2020.

NO - Did not (have not as of 06/29) received the 125% future cruise credit.

 

NOTE1: I did receive some kind of FCC called "Used For Goodwill Fccs" back on 6/1 but I don't believe this is related to the cancelled cruise as the amount nowhere near what the FCC for the cancelled cruise (125%) should be.

 

NOTE2: While I was waiting (March to June) for the refund, I did receive two unsolicited e-mails from Princess stating that refunds were taking longer than expected.  Oddly... (probably more the norm) I did *NOT* receive any e-mails or communications of any kind when I actually got the refund.  I only saw the credit to my monthly statement.

Two things these articles show:

 

1) The problems with refund delays is not restricted to Carnival Corp brands. NCL and RCCL brands also have similar problems.

 

2) Just like people on this thread have said they will never sail on Princess again, those with problems on the other cruise lines say the same thing about the brands they had been booked on.

Still waiting for our Princess refund for cruise June 27, canceled April 20. Taking the longest!

Our Royal refunds have only taken 11-20 days, & our Carnivals 30-45 days.

We go on quite a few with the casino deals. Only had one Princess for now thank goodness.

So what percentage did you get?   It is calculated on the base cruise fare without port fees & taxes or anything else paid for up front.

If you were travelling with someone else their FCC will be in  a separate account?

Maybe just check your FCCs in Captains circle account, whilst I have never heard of such a thing before I believe they refunded our  Port fees and taxes as FCCs

Our 25 May cruise was cancelled in March due to Australia canning all cruises.  We filled out the form for a full refund.  Nothing yet, no notifications except a random email last week saying that 60% of refunds have been processed.   Ha, like to see (or believe) that.  Paid in full plus used $100 each FCC for the deposit so wonder if we will get that back or if it will just get lost.

I think you are due 100% of your money back and a 25% cruise credit - not 125% credit - so is that June 1st FCC 25% of your fare?

 

We got our 25% FCC several weeks before our refund came through.

Cancelled cruise on March 11  ( March 28 sail date  )  

Received 175% FCC of actual cruise cost ( published fare less $100 FCD ) for both of in early June 

 

Received refund this past week ( credit card statement )

Insurance

Port Taxes

Future Cruise Deposit ($200) ?

Plus $23.46 ?

 

Does Princess send out an explanation of refund statement ?

I posted the other day that we received our 200 credit card refund but was waiting for the gift card support to issue me a new gift card. I have since found all my gift cards and all money has been refunded to them so I am whole. 

Again we cancelled March 11 for june 27 cruise. It appears they are more going by when you cancelled than by sail date

for the most part.

I stand corrected and I now believe the FCC is somewhat accurate if aggregated across each cruiser.  Thanks for pointing this out.

I believe you are correct.  I was expecting it to all be in my account but now looking at my wifes Captains Circle and she has the same FCC amount.  It's not 25% of the fare (more like 18%) but in reality it must be the FCC.

The 25% would only be 25% of the base fare, not including port fees, taxes, prepaid gratuities, or the like.  Take a look at your original Booking Confirmation, look at the actual "Fare," multiply by 0.25, and see if it is the amount.  Let us know.  Princess doesn't generally make a mistake about this.

April 4 sail date on Ruby.....nothing!!!       

promises, promises....refunding in order of sail date - really???

Those of us that were paid in full and owed $10K or more have likely been moved to the back of the line

Caribbean Princess cruise on 10/22/2020 was canceled by Princess on May 6.  On June 26 I received refunds of pre-paid gratuities and pre-paid casino credits to my credit card.  I couldn't believe it as it took 3 months to get refunds from our 3/29 and 4/5 cruises on the Regal....
