Glad it was an officially approved exercise walk.    What is an unofficial exercise walk, one with a party of ten?

What a nice surprise to see Viking Orion sailing by.

I like your Premier's common sense approach.  He didn't see how people could be stopped going to their holiday homes over Easter.  Did that hold?

Families who live in the same house may walk together but otherwise limited to 2 people only, social distancing at all times of course. When we are out walking we cross to the other side of the street if we see people coming towards us or if just one person, we wait on the nature strip to they pass.

Mr Andrews' statement about Victorians going to their holiday homes at Easter was quite ridiculous and unneccessary. It was also very confusing as on one hand everyone is being told to stay home but Victorian holiday home owners are told they can visit their holiday homes. By the way the areas where there are a large numbers of holiday homes are saying they don't want these people coming to their 2nd homes. In fact it was suggested by a local MP that police roadblocks be put in place to stop people travelling. There has been plenty of reports of local authorities begging people not to come. This image shows a local nurse, doctor and the CEO of the local health organistion from the Great Ocean Road area.

You could assume by now that the ships currently floating around our coastlines are Covid-19 free?
So, whichever country was the first to offer - Carnival Spirit & Legend, Pacific Dawn, Aria & Explorer and Sea & Sun Princess safe harbour (along with any other lost floating cruise family) they would stand to make both $$$ and a ton of kudos.
Can’t believe Australia’s behaviour about the ships and sending them away - to where? Once they let their crews off at home ports?
Just shows that our authorities have NO REAL IDEA about this virus and how it does spread.

This won’t be forgotten by Carnival Corp. & plc

You are correct from the reports I have seen from crew etc...
Pacific Dawn, Aria & Explorer and Sea & Sun Princess have not had any cases of Covid-19.

I dont think Carnival Spirit and Carnival Splendor had any cases, but there had been a couple of near misses, which in the end turned out to be the normal flu

Disgraceful actions by the government, but money will bring them back.

Maybe but their actions might have forced the cruiselines to get their crew to their homelands rather than just hanging around on cruise ships! It's all so sad, isn't it.

Viking Orion was just "near" Adelaide last night on the way across the Bight. 12 months ago we were preparing to pack to board her in Vancouver for our bucket list Alaska Cruise.

Carnival Splendor and Sprint heading to Indonesia and the Philippines to get crew home

http://crew-center.com/carnival-splendor-and-sprint-heading-indonesia-and-philippines-get-crew-home

Following the plans by P&O Australia and Royal Caribbean to set sail from Australia and bring the crew home, Carnival Cruise Line is preparing to do the same thing with the two Australia based ships Carnival Splendor and Carnival Spirit.

The plan for Splendor and Sprit is to leave Australian waters on Sunday, April 12, after the company received approval from Australian authorities to refuel and execute the exchange of the crew members starting Saturday, April 11.

Carnival Spirit to set sail for the Philippines

The Carnival Spirit will take on all Filipino crew from the Carnival Splendor using tender boats, and then sail to Manila Cebu and Davao where the crew will sign off.

The first stop for Carnival Sprit will be Manila, where Filipino team members from the Manila region will disembark the ship. While in Manila, Carnival Spirit will pick up crew from Carnival ships being flown to Manila by charter and CCL crew who have been waiting in hotels for transport to their home regions. The vessel will then sail to Cebu and Davao and disembark the remaining Filipino crew members.

Carnival Splendor to set sail for Indonesia

The Carnival Splendor will take on all crew members who were unable to sign off due to flight availability as well as the Indonesian crew from the Carnival Spirit.

Splendor will set sail to Bali and Jakarta where all Indonesian nationals will disembark. Carnival is also looking at flight options from both Bali and Jakarta to fly crew members from Europe and North America back home.

Carnival representatives are also working closely with officials in India, which continues to be closed to inbound travel. Indian crew members will be repatriated if the company receives clearance from the Indian government.

The crew on both ships are healthy and the company wants to ensure they remain that way. All crew will continue to have single cabin accommodations and will continue to maintain social distancing and follow all safety protocols.

And all this is quietly being organised behind the scenes while we are bombarded with shocking stories of Ships of Shame etc.  Making out that they are some sort of pirahnas just waiting offshore to swoop. Pity some of our media don't give the other side of the story.  Carnival is looking after its crew.

I don't think that cruising will come back very soon.  Sad.  Just the logistics of it.  The ships are scattered all over the world, the crews likewise.  Ports are shut and ships have to have somewhere to depart from and visit and need passengers and crew.  They will have to be prepared ready for voyages, bunkering and stores etc.   Most passengers will have cancelled forthcoming cruises or not make final payments.  Ship itineraries are usually around 18 months in advance which tells you the planning involved, booking berths etc.  It is an absolute mess.

Even if restrictions are lifted in a month (not likely for cruising) there is no way they can just carry on as before with existing itineraries for the coming summer season.  My next cruise is for 30 Oct but I doubt it will go ahead.  I note that P&O Aus have shortened their final payments for some earlier cruises to be 30 days prior to sailing not 90 so hopefully they will do this for mine.  Just wait and see.

After dropping off crew in Durban, Amsterdam has now departed en route to Batam, Indonesia, expected to arrive around 24/4.  Every port requires 14 days isolation prior to arrival.

Captain Jonathan - Captain, Who's Driving blog.

Amsterdam still has luggage on board from World Cruise passengers who departed the ship in Fremantle, WA.

Thank you for this thread, which has been most interesting in seeing the magnitude of what was involved in getting passengers off the ships and getting crew home.

I follow his blog and have done for years.  It makes you realize the problems that ships are currently experiencing away from the public gaze.  This is one reason why I think it will be a while before cruising resumes.  The cruising world is upside down and while people talk about taking new cruises the ships are still trying to get their crews back to their home ports while dealing with unhelpful governments.  Australia is not alone with being obstructive.  God speed to them and their crews.

I wish I could have done a real voyage with Captain Jonathan, he seems to have a great sense of humour.

I can't understand the thinking with regard to holiday homes.  Surely the aim is for people to stay in one place.  Whether they stay in their principal dwelling, which is often close to their work, or their holiday home, which is often a place to relax, shouldn't matter, as long as they follow the rules once in place.

By moving about in that way infection can be transferred from a hot spot to a virus free spot, therefore making it harder to contain and track.

But people don't follow the rules, see below. Surely if the majority of people have to stay at home, why are holiday home owners treated differently and get to travel away for a holiday? It doesn't make sense!

Exactly Lyndarra, that is the concern of local tourist authorities where there are many holiday homes and don't yet have cases of the virus. I think the so called Aspen group bringing the virus to the Mornington Peninsula was a good example of how the virus could be spread. If these people had not visited their holiday home and were not out in the local community, there would probably have been very few cases in the area.

My daughter in law's family have two holiday houses and neither one has been used over Easter as they didn't think it fair to the locals to visit at this time.
