Even Drake's Circus which has become the main shopping area has quite a few empty shops. We had lunch in a new area that has been built called, of all things The Bar Code, because of the outside looking like a bar code! We had a good day and had a nice lunch in Las Iguanas. I'm now at home with a glass of wine having taken the weight of my poor feet as we walked miles! Sad to hear that about Plymouth. When we lived in Truro, back in the early 60s, a visit to Plymouth was a real high spot - an exciting place for a teenager to visit. The new Civic Centre was incredible, and all the post-war post-bombing newness of the city centre, contrasting with the Barbican, was incredible. We went rarely, but it was always a good day out. Truro was a bit limited by comparison, but the shop names were good - Mallet the ironmongers and Mutton the butchers at the time. A great place to grow up though, and I still miss it. It appears as though with so many geese and ducks upsetting the tranquility, you could do with Harry visiting to take some control. I quite agree your previous picture was expensive for us, but worth every penny. I any newcomers (who are very welcome) are confused by the mention of Harry and photos costing a lot, you have only 33000 posts to wade through to discover what I am rambling on about. 😉 And we could do with a good seaside break ---- off to open up again soon 🙂 🙂 🙂

I am just having a glass of wine too , so cheers 🥂 Enjoy your evening Michelle We enjoyed our lunch today. The restaurant is part of a mini chain owned by Marco Pierre Whites son, Luciano. It was quite good and not silly expensive. His dad had 3 Michelin stars. It wasn't quite that good , but may soon be award winning. Son of Anarchy Posted February 25, 2022 #32033 Share Posted February 25, 2022 They could have at least cooked my starter! Seriously though, a wonderful meal. Didn't take a pic of my ribs & buckwheat as the view wasn't appetising. But the the taste certainly was. Good Times in Poland

The first time I ate this was at a meal given by a German customer of mine, and so I obviously had to eat it. Broke the raw egg into the raw meat, and ate the smallest bite possible. It was fantastic ! Ended up eating all of it.

Brands are a last resort for me - very rarely better than own label, but always much more expensive. I've worked for various companies that produced branded and own label goods for retailers. Sonetimes there is no difference between the two, and other times there is quite a significant difference. And sometimes, not mentioning Marks & Spencer (!), the own label can be of a higher spec than the branded equivalent !

I wouldn't give it an award though.🤣

Josy1953 Posted February 26, 2022 #32040 Share Posted February 26, 2022 A lovely sunny morning here but it is very cold the garden was white over earlier but it is slowly thawing. I just had a text from one of my vaccine friends asking if I was suffering withdrawal symptoms since we aren't there any longer. It is strange thinking of things to do on a Saturday now but it is a perfect morning for walking so a walk around Trentham Gardens is looking good. Take care and enjoy your day whatever you are doing.
Rare Eddie99 Posted February 26, 2022 #32041 Share Posted February 26, 2022 It’s a beautiful morning here, and warming up nicely. Yesterday’s wind has dropped, so it feels like we’ll be able to have an enjoyable walk. Does anyone have people travelling BA short haul out of or into Heathrow? Daughter is just about to fly to NY but says the terminal is “carnage”. No short haul flights till noon at the earliest. Goodness knows what the problem is - you can’t help wondering if Mr P is wreaking havoc with the IT. Have a nice day (omg - sounds like a NY tribute!). Stay safe

lincslady Posted February 26, 2022 #32045 Share Posted February 26, 2022 A lovely if chilly morning here in Lincs. Fingers crossed I will be going out for dinner with my children - what else do you call them, even if they are getting on - and their spouses, then a night away in a b and b which comes highly recommended. It will be a real treat, after a difficult time lately. Nice to see some past/occasional posters on here. I think we are all sending positive thoughts to all the Ukranian people, including those who now live in the UK of course.

lincslady Posted February 26, 2022 #32047 Share Posted February 26, 2022 Will do, Brian, after we have stayed. Not been there before. And if it is good, the village pub just down the road is good too.
Adawn47 Posted February 26, 2022 #32048 Share Posted February 26, 2022 Morning all 😊. A glorious morning in my small corner of Yorkshire. Blue cloudless sky and that sun feels wonderful when sheltered from the cool breeze.🌞I think a day in the garden is calling, there's plenty to do. Frank's putting in some more raised beds, much easier for me to cope with now. The pots full of spring bulbs need putting in place and the new peonies and hollyhocks need planting. I love this time of year, new growth, new life. I had a quick look at the news this morning and things in Ukraine seem to be escalating. I feel so helpless and angry as nothing definite seems to be being done, except more 'talks'. It's action these poor people need, not words. Take care everyone and enjoy your day whatever you have planned. Avril
Purdey16 Posted February 26, 2022 #32049 Share Posted February 26, 2022 Good morning everyone from cloudy/rain in fuerteventura on our second week on Iona , been through a few storms as you all know last week back home but the first week was rough and we are on deck 5 and I nearly fell out of bed , back in Southampton last Saturday and then heavens opened up and we were ready for our next storm heading out to Madeira, but we’re unable to dock due to winds , so disappointed after 19 years of waiting to visit again, so for us we had 6 days at sea before getting off , I haven’t read through all the thread so not sure if others on the first cruise made any comments about the first week, anyway my thoughts on Iona is in the middle really we don’t hate her or love her , lovely ship , fantastic happy crew, lovely food in all restaurants included or pay extra, and brilliant entertainment, don’t like the atrium too big and cold and cheap looking with all the silver and the furniture, people tend to sit there for hours or all day reading and doing crosswords and find it hard to get a seat for a coffee and move on . that’s our main dislikes so not much , plenty of entertainments to choose from to suit everyone. Our cabin on deck 5 window seat with a big couch and big tv and big shower with good power is all brilliant, we have the last cabin next to the gym and don’t hear any noise whatsoever from there, but we do have noise from the limelight club after hours above us until midnight but that doesn’t worry us the big problem being the lifeboats above us that squeak all day and night and m7ch worse during rough weather. Im at my sisters today for the internet so will send some photos so I hope some don’t get annoyed for some food porn 😉and will answer any questions if I can .
