Looks like February is going to be an expensive month, carpenter came today to repair the part that we knew had rotten frame beneath, on taking up the boards realised the rest of the frame work improve rotten or nearly rotten, so looks like a complete replacement of the deck is required. Now waiting for a revised quote for the whole lot.

Back home and warming up after freezing in vaccine hub.  We had a good morning, no grumpy customers, the only downside was 84 no shows, why book if you don’t want to come  in for the vaccine ?

It's human nature I'm afraid.

I'm not talking about those younger ones who can only now have their appointments, but if you have put off having your jab/booster this long you are still looking for a reason not to have it, and a foolish yet popular belief now is that the number of infections per day is going down so you don't need it - you've got away with it - and all restrictions are coming off over the next few weeks anyway as the country moves to "living with it", so why bother?

I also hope Elaine @emam is okay.

Hi Graham, I am fine thank you. I don't really read this thread, as when it first started, I was trying to avoid some of the horrible news that was going on around us. However when scrolling up to log in I saw a picture of a skeleton in a cupboard, I will have to see what that is about. I have been following the threads about Covid and the insurance etc., which has us thinking about the cruise we currently have booked. Apart from that I don't really have much I can add at the minute, I haven't been to the Caribbean and have not intention of doing so as it involves a plane to get there which I don't like.

I hope that you are both doing ok and have had a good Christmas and New Year. We both had the virus at the end of September, beginning of October which addled my brain a bit and then I was busy with a heritage exhibition. Then Christmas took over after that.

Take care.

Lovely to hear from you.

Sorry to hear you had covid in September/October and hopefully you are both fit and well now.

I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year.

I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the side of my brow on Christmas Eve and had the stitches removed 5 days later and it is healing really well.

Very best wishes.

Graham.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully that will be the last of your ill health. You would have been treated well in Sunderland Hospital. Best wishes to both of you too. Maybe one day I might run into you at the circus tops.

Pauline enjoyed chatting to you when she was there with her best friend.

Morning all from a gloriously sunny W Yorkshire, it must now be about 7 sunny days in a row, and it's already 5 deg without a hint of any wind.

A grand day for all you dog walkers.

I'm pleased to say the weather is similar here at the moment, 6c with a gentle breeze.  All the nasty damp freezing fog of yesterday has gone thank heavens.

Morning everyone,

A fairly bright day here, no wind which is always a bonus. Dogs just back from morning walk in park, hopefully a nice walk on seafront this afternoon.

Hubby just painting kitchen walls as most of work except tiling and down lights now done.

A trip to Tesco required or there will be no tea tonight.

Take care everyone and stay safe

Good morning. Chilly but bright at present time.

Numbers for Omnicron are falling and, if media reports are right, this trend is going to continue rapidly. With  news that symptons are mild for most and all restrictions are to be lifted by the end of the month, we can hope this disease is on the wane.

I transferred my Iona Feb 19th cruise funds to another next January. Looking at prices now I can get same grade of balcony, very close to my original choice, for £400 pp less. Very tempted and will monitor the current cruise for a few days and may book it again.

But not so grand for windsurfers. Bedroom telly packed up after 20 months, off to get a new one. Email from the treefellers. They are starting next week and want some money. Big gardening blister on that bit of the thumb joint that you always bang. Typical day in paradise. Off to Pizza Express , Woking after all that for a late lunch and a bit of Royal spotting.

Not much going on here either ,I too was looking at the covid figures for our area

and they do seem to be going in the right direction and the vaccination hubs not

opening as much seems to confirm that as well .Got a good feeling about this summer:classic_love:

This morning I decided I needed to charge my batteries ,no time like the present as they

say. So that's the clocks/safe and alarms all done ,so will not get caught out with any

flat ones  One of my better ideas to buy rechargeable batteries .After all that hard

work I can look forward to a nice roast beef Sunday dinner Mrs K is doing

Take care and stay safe everyone .:classic_love::classic_smile:

Up front money seems to be the new norm. I have one toe that is constantly black and blue - yes I know the water trough is there I refuse to move it because obviously I won't do that again. Hmnnn.

Here the weather is cold but lovely. Brother was very shifty on getting up and suddenly blurted out he's off to some other hostelry with his sailing friend today. Most unlike him he's usually so reliable. However despite looking suitably miffed I actually feel a bit rough like a cold maybe coming on so secretly fine about it. However scored a major walkies from him for the reluctant lady low riders. So although the sun is still rising I have myself wrapped up in a fluffy duvet , bi-fold doors pulled back, electric facsimile of a log fire going. My hand is wrapped round a large brandy and port and just to feel extra cared for I have it in one of my Dad's brandy balloons he won in a fishing competition and for about the 500th time starting to read "Three Men In A Boat". Oh edited as forgot until I read Kalos post roast beef on the way.

Stay safe and enjoy the sun if applicable

Morning *checks watch* err, afternoon all.  Nice enough day here, glimpses of sun but there was overnight rain, so we’re back to squelching along paths again.  Have done our 10k steps, so time to chill with a G&T and then set to and make our roast beef lunch.  Christmas rib of beef, and gravy, portioned and frozen, so just the roasties and veg to do.

Covid numbers seem to be taking a dive - it can’t all be due to limited availability of tests, can it?  Fingers crossed it doesn’t send its friend pi or sigma or theta to torment us.

Did anybody catch the new Saturday night BBC4 crime serial - Hidden Assets?  I thought it started well.  Also, if we’re in to reviews, we were late catching up with The Gentlemen.  We thought it very good, in a Guy Ritchie, violent yet (black) humorous way.  Hugh Grant and Matthew  McConaughey were very good.  However, as I said we were late catching it, so the film buffs have probably already snagged it on Netflix

Last nights pasta delivery (Nonna Tonda) was excellent.  Tuscan sausage and cavolo  nero sauce on bucatini pasta.  We haven’t had a food pic for ages, so here’s two - beef and pasta

Oh how I hate the UK in January (and February,  and most of March! ).

This!

I’m a constant lurker if irregular poster, but I thought I’d let you in on my January day.  We’ve just received a tornado warning on our phones and DH has informed me that we will head for the bathroom if it comes through here!

After much ‘shall we/shan’t we’ go, we flew to Tampa, Florida on 2 January, had 5 glorious days by the ocean at Vero Beach before joining a Celebrity cruise ship (Apex) which was beautiful and just one third full - fewer than 1100 passengers. It was a wonderful Caribbean cruise.

We are now in Central Florida and was a bit surprised to see the tornado warning, but hey ho, the rest of our time here looks to have good weather if the BBC is to be relied upon, so fingers crossed you are not hearing of ‘our tornado’ in the news tonight. The rain is coming down in sheets at the moment.

My friends at home report having quite a few sunny days last week, so I wish you all a mild rest of the month.  I’ll be back for February but I’ll be reading along until then - this thread and The Times are my daily ‘go to’ and a big thanks to whoever posted the link to Wordle a few weeks back 👍

Where did the darn sun go? I am now snuffed up to death, no lunch fancied so just finished cooking the roast beef and will cut and freeze tomorrow. I will be ringing 111 later or even 999 if this sort of no eating nonsense doesn't stop. However luckily the lurgy has not quelled my interest in alcoholic beverages. All doors firmly closed now it is just me and the low riders on the sofa. Head aches too much to read so rubbish TV. Hope everyone else has a restful day.

Another fun day at the vaccine hub.  We had a much better attendance, only 42 no shows.  I have decided that a lot of people book but treat the appointment as sometime on the booked day.  We had people with 9 o'clock appointments turning up at 11 o'clock onwards, this made me think that the majority of the 34 who had appointments after 11:30 who hadn't  appeared when we closed at 12 o'clock would probably turn up to a locked building.

Just caught up on the thread. Not much excitement going on in my neck of the woods at the moment. Still waiting to hear about getting my floors dried out. The Insurer's contractor was great in the early response but not so good now. A week after the engineer/technician called, I got a call from them and they started talking about a completely different claim to mine. She suggested that they will remove all my lounge and dining room furniture to take the floors up and start drying. She didn't have any suggestions as to what I am supposed to sit on or where whilst I have no furniture...

Not really been socialising much with the high Covid numbers but as in most places, they are falling fast now so cinema/theatre trips and eating out again may now be on the horizon 🤞🏻

Daytime parking prices in Brighton have been extortionate for years. Fortunately, when I lived there I was a 25 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride into the City centre. Sadly, as well as having many of the advantages of a major city, Brighton also has many of the problems of one too - in a very compact town centre.

My sister lived in Brighton for many years, she has now moved to much less expensive Worthing!
