One would hope, we even had some that were doddling along and then when someone tried to pass them they would speed up. There were even some who you would pass and then they would speed up and pass you back and slow down again. 😟

Don't you just hate that. The other grip I have is when they speed up when you reach the overtaking lane.😡

That too today, it was quite the drive. We will have another long day tomorrow and then it will be "vacation" proper visiting with our nephew and his family. We will be there for a few days and then a more leisurely drive back from there with 2 nights in Banff followed by a drive up the icefield parkway with an overnight in Valemount. After that it will be a bit of a drive before we have 2 nights at Harrison Hot Springs.

Well we have made it through the second leg of this trip. It was a long day and we were concerned about gas at one point. It was almost 800 kms, we encountered a whole bunch of caravans leading long parades behind as we waited for an overtaking lane. There was one in particular that held up 8 cars for 50 kms. The car immediately behind it wouldn't pass it and there was no way to get past both of them.

Our road trip through Queensland we too experienced the caravan conga line from hell😂. Though on one road instead of the usual caravan with cars behind we had five caravans back to back and a motor home 😱

Having done a lot of touring, I know what you mean. A slow vehicle, like a car towing a caravan, becomes more of a problem when there is a hesitant driver behind it. Like a filtration system, all the more confident drivers have overtaken the van and got away.

Pain in the butt those caravans, many do not have the manners or commonsense to pull over and allow other vehicles to pass, hate them. Any caravanners on here? 😡 Enjoy your trip Lyle.

That would be frustrating and frustrated drivers can be dangerous drivers. If they're doing the speed limit then no problem. Another frustrating thing is drivers behind bunching up which prevents others from safely overtaking. When I'm out driving and on my bike I try and maintain a 3 second gap from vehicle in front. This allows room for acceleration to overtake and but also allows room for a quicker driver to overtake and pull in safely if needs be.

I'm grateful my Forester is a turbo as it has wicked acceleration if required. If there's a conga line it could be a good time to take a break and ease the frustration.

I also have a caravan.

I agree sometimes instead of trying work out how to overtake it is better to turn in somewhere and let the line go. The last time we're stuck behind an impassable conga we turned into a little picnic area at a dam, there was lovely scenery, fresh air, peace and quiet. Just sat at one of the tables and took it all in🤗

That is what I do on my little country road trips, done 10 in the past 15 months.   Give the caravan convoys a 15 minute start.

If one has a slow vehicle... let people past..... pretty simple...

Had an LJ50 for many year    80km Max   some time slower with a head wind..and with trailer.

Did a few long trips... out to the Purni Bore in the Simpson and to Kangaroo Island...

You got there when you got there.....lol       just remember the Oil as it was 2-stroke..

When I worked up in the East Kimberley, the highways only had 1 lane of bitumen. Oncoming traffic normally put 2 wheels on the gravel to give passing room for each other.

caravan drivers did not seem to understand this part of manners. Some were scared of losing control on the gravel, others just …

With one lane of bitumen, passing was another issue. Often come across a convoy 3-5 vehicles, about 30 under the speed limit. They were afraid of the great outdoors, so close to each other so no room to pull in part way along. Look for a very long straight stretch, both sets of wheels in the gravel as they yielded no surface.

Les, did you ever come across a Supt. Laurie Holmes?

I never did, the name does not ring a bell either.  I was in 👮‍♂️1967 to 2003.   Was he up north? I was City, Bankstown, Eastern Suburbs, St George/Sutherland and Illawarra/South Coast.

He was in Sydney, but I don't know where. I was told he was in line for an Assistant Commisioner post but he had a major heart attack from which he did not fully recover. Was in Newcastle area before he died late eighties. He would have been old enough to have  been yours or my father. He was FIL of my BF.

Did I mention a Ron Bender previously? A good bloke who was in my rec training platoon in Nasho.

This brought back memories of our 2014 trip. After driving Calgary/Banff/Jasper/Kamloops on wide & spacious roads, we then had a trip from Kamloops to Whistler. It was quite a day - in km it looked an easy drive, but didn't work out that way. Very winding and often held-up, stuck behind log trucks with little or no opportunity to pass, so we used a lot more time & fuel than bargained for. Had to make an unscheduled fuel stop in a little community a few km off the main road. All good in the end.

Something different !!!  Uncle Les is not happy. I have an urologist appointment on 20 Sept in Canberra (they don't visit down here.)  Specialist requires a copy of the A.C.T. Health exemption form I have to get. So I apply and get knocked back because the appointment is not critical. It is is in my opinion biopsy, opinion and management re cancer of Prostate !!  I even sent Covid vacc certificate !! To no avail.

So now I have to try and get another referral to specialist in Wollongong, where I can travel to as in NSW and the service is not available in my LGA.  I have also rang ACT Health, like talking to a brick wall. I have a feeling they do not like NSW people !

Afternoon Sports Fans...Thought you would be pleased to know..Princess have a new term for tipping/gratuities.  'Crew Incentive'

How nice of them to try and disguise that abhorrent thing called tipping.🤐

Yes,  I know Princess cruises originating from OZ/NZ have crew incentive included in cruise price.

Can we start a 'Crew Incentive thread?😂
