A very fair post.

Though I have worked my way though lots of tissues tonight I don't blame P&O at all. It must be a nightmare at the minute for them.

I agree, of course it's commercially orientated and the way the business is run; P&O will collect the flak on behalf of the Corporation.

However if a sale or transfer of ownership/scrappage has already been agreed/signed, if not announced, then you can't continue to advertise a product for further sales now which is not now, and is not intended actually be available.

People think that "product" is advertised as a holiday on board a particular ship. I just feel sorry in particular for anyone who is using "Super Saturday" to book a Winter Sun holiday to the Gulf on Oceana.

I know that they did it with Adonia and Oriana - just good fortune for P&O that no regulator appears to be bothered.

The announcement if/when it’s made will say P&O have today reached agreement and signed a deal with ########### to take the ship of our hands if you think any different that’s up to you

Once they have a buyer of some sort, before they can announce to the world that she is going, they need to have firm plans of what options are available to pax booked on her - they can't just say to pax " your cruise is cancelled and we don't know what we can offer you".

I'm no fan of P&O HQ but I can see that it may not be very easy for them when possibly dancing to Carnival Corp's tune.

I agree that this is a fair post too and in all these matters it is easy to misalign comment between P&O and Carnival Corp.

Let's say that the current situation is "ambiguous" but also that there is something in this.

A good strategy would be for Oceana to become either temporarily "unavailable" for new bookings, or "sold out," or the fluid pricing model adjusted to temporarily dissuade bookings, in the same way that an airline does with its last few seats, or a car insurance broker does when it would prefer not to accept your risk i.e. hyper inflate the price.

This would depend on the brand's control of the situation versus the corporation, but would appear to be a fairer strategy on potential new customers, as opposed to those who existing customers who are already booked and will need the strategy communicated to them, when it has had chance to form.

It's this part of it (new customers) where I have less sympathy for HQ, the above rider notwithstanding.

Oceana leaving Newcastle on July 4th2020

What a sad sight. I can't believe I'm actually tearful watching her leave and telling us all goodbye. This is so silly. How can a grown woman cry over a ship? We have some good memories of her including our golden wedding anniversary  celebration. Goodbye Oceana. 💕

I don't know why but we do get attached to ships. The last time I was in Southampton (on a short Azura cruise), Oriana departed and I knew it was the last time I would see her. My eyes were somewhat moist as I watched her sail out...

Of course Manc, the content of the announcement will be very likely as you outline.

The content of the announcement could (or might not) differ from the truth, for instance if some sort of disposal deal has been done and it is pending announcement at some future date, for one or other reasons.  I don't know this to be the case to be honest, same as everyone else.  Just working from the information posted earlier.

The crux of it will be making sure that no one identifies the difference between the announcement and its timing, versus the truth, should (in reality) the two actually be in any way significantly different.

Essentially, my view is that a well-run business should not contract with new customers if it either currently knows that it is unable to, or instead is not wanting to, fulfil the order based on its determined strategy.  Just not a good idea if you want to keep custom.

Because we do.  The first time I saw Arcadia after my late mother's death, I was virtually inconsolable.   Either we imagine their personalities, or some appear to actually have individual quirks.

Lovely goodbye to the Tyne by Oceana.  Whatever her fate, and wherever that is, she's clearly got a lot of people who have wonderful memories of her.

Can’t disagree with what your saying about keeping customers informed but in the real world it will never happen did Flybe or Monarch tell their pax don’t bother booking we’re going bust in 18 hours? No they didn’t. At any time all the ships are for sale at the right price whether for scrap or future use so don’t think the companies think about us SLF for one second

I understand.

What a fantastic Golden Wedding celebration you must have had to have it on Oceana.

Oceana was blowing her horn all the way down river as if to say farewell.

Her destination after Southampton shows as Local coastal. Maybe she is just joining the rest of the fleet at anchor?
Thanks so there is no evidence of PO Oceana being sold or discarded, correct?

There is anecdotal evidence that her future with P&O is pretty short but there is no concrete evidence. With regard to replacement, it has long been thought that when/if Gala/Iona 2 comes on stream, Oceana would go. The pandemic crisis has of course cast doubt over the future of many ships - old, new and future.

My dad was a merchant seaman from South Shields.  Had he sailed as either crew or passenger on the lovely Oceana I'm sure he would have been tearful as well.

No concrete evidence but those posting do so in good faith I’m sure.

Hope you enjoyed the video of Oceana leaving.

She was blowing her horn most of the way down the Tyne and it was lovely seeing her sailing again.

As a matter of interest, in the current environment,  who would want to buy Oceana?  She is a medium size ship, so no good for boutique lines and the balcony cabins are small. So, I suppose a casino ship for the Far East?

Oceana is not likely to be sold this year at least.
I have a cruise booked early November

Somehow I doubt that Carnival HQ  took your November booking into account when making a multi million dollar decision!
