Tipping

If you do not tip you will not get good service will you?

Not sure why you would think that.   I rarely tip extra and I've never had any reason to complain.  20% gratuity paid in advance is plenty as far as I'm concerned.

It's really up to you what you do with your money.

I don't add any extra when I have the drink package and always receive excellent service. The nee for an extra gratuity is a myth.

I have the drink package how much should I tip in cash for a drink?

We always get good service. But....One night having drink at cagneys the bartender told us he was at pool bar the next day. We tipped $5 for 2 glasses of wine hoping he’d keep us in mind the next day. Nope. So I don’t think it matters.

$1.00 per drink is my standard and that goes a long way with me and my experiences . They know who tips and who doesn’t ...... Not necessary, but it is nice.

Absolutely. I get great service onboard when non tippers get ignored.

Tipping is a personal preference. You may tip a lot or nothing at all depending on what you perceive the value of the service to be.

I am so happy to see a new tipping thread! It cheers me up no end. I'm not kidding.

When in The Haven I do tip extra because I see the same bartender and server. I have had them ignore an upcharge for some of the high end liquors, maybe the tipping helps. But I have never felt pressured to tip.

Tipping is such a private and personal matter that often people will argue their take on it with great vehemence! And some strange logic. If you are ok with rough language, the anti tipping scene in Reservoir Dogs is pretty funny.

Minimum $5/drink.  If you have any empathy for the poor crew dealing with the Chinese virus, it should be more.

I have great service with no extra tips, if you feel you need to tip more for the American virus then that's personal choice.

I am a tipper, but I am also pleasant and friendly to the servers. They thoroughly appreciate both. A few years ago I spent a decent amount of time sitting at the bar at Gatsby's on the Dawn. The bartenders gave everyone great service, but they had an extra touch for the people who were "nice" to them or regulars for the week.

My drink was made with a different liquor than the standard drink and two bartenders made sure they were always the ones to take care of me. When I sailed on the same ship 16 months later, one of the bartenders was there and remembered me.

Tipping extra is nice if you are inclined to do so (like BirdTravels I make sure I have a supply of $1s and $5s for any vacation), but being friendly and respectful goes a long way as well.

Gonna have to fill us in.  What is the American virus?  Most people in the world know what the Chinese virus is, but I have never heard of this 'American virus'.

Never tip per drink, never had anything but wonderful service, often tip on the last day to anyone who has made my cruise special.

Exactly as we do and never had a problem.

We find our favourite people on the last day, thank them and tip them, all people who naturally made our time wonderful and did not need to be paid to give great service.

There isn't anyone who "doesn't tip". They already have. 20%.

Ummm .... I’m well aware of that. However, if 10 people are sitting at the pool bar and one person at the bar is tipping $1 cash per drink, the bartenders notice . Seems like that statement is pretty cut and dry. I can go on all day about what those few extra dollar tips have gotten me ..... like pool servers bringing me buckets of beers hidden under white cabin towels to me pool side so no one else will see is just one example .....making anything my two kids want from the bar (virgin drinks and smoothies) at no added cost is another . For those who tip extra they may have their own special treatment . Those who don’t may not ....
