My brother goes to a couple a year - getting information is like pulling teeth, so perhaps Graham can fill us in.

It was 4 years ago.

We entered through the front entrance and were shown around Buckingham Palace.

We then went out into the back garden and there was a big catering area where we got food and drink.

The Queen and Prince Philip smiled at us as they walked past within 1 metre of us.

Prince Edwards wife was there too.

They have several garden parties a year and different Royal members attend each party.

Love the hat! My husband was going to go into a ballot for afternoon tea with the Queen this year because of his voluntary work for the National Trust but of course because of covid it didn't happen.

Indeed - how do you say "bath" for example?

"Barth", as in scarf, or "Bath" as in caff.

Is it 'Latte or 'Lartte ? I tend to say 'Latte' but it seems to differ whichever part of the country people are from.

I hope he gets the opportunity next year.

It is a nice event.

Oh, that's easy - it's like two French words - La & Thé 😉😂

How about from Italy. Italian word, Italian pronunciation. Latte (latay) I do sometimes think though, that some may consider any word with a short 'a' is 'common' regardless of the correct pronunciation.

Cur-cod-ee.

How about Milngavie? 😊

I give up!

Having worked for an Irish company for a few years, I had to admit defeat to names such as  Padraig,  Eoghan, and Sadhbab.

Mull-guy. It is a suburb of Glasgow.

Do any of our Yorkshire contingent know if Sowerby Bridge is still pronounced "Sorby" Bridge, as my mother always called it, along with Brighouse ("Brigus")?

Brigus is still used but only rarely, not really heard Sorby used, but it can be either (Sow) erby as in a pig, or  (Sew) erby as in sewing, the latter is more common, although which one the locals prefer I am not sure.

I used to live in Meopham in Kent.

Pronounced Mepham but have heard people ask for Meofam.

I grew up not far from there. Not a million miles away from the marvellously named (and neighbouring) Pratt's Bottom and Badgers Mount...
