APPROPRIATE ACTIONS OR EXTREME MEASURES?

I have two X cruises booked in 2021.  If I have to get Covid tested prior to boarding, I will cancel.  If I have to wear a mask anywhere on the ship, I will cancel my cruises.  If I have to look at crew wearing masks, I will cancel.  I'm not especially concerned about getting Covid.  I am concerned the cruising with Covid restrictions and policies will not be an enjoyable experience.

Very passionate and valid points. Totally understandable. The expected experience has got to seem worth the money spent. Might be a good idea to start looking at possible lifts-and shifts. That is if you want to cruise in 2022.

I agree 10000% and wish I had taken the appropriate steps when observing a woman digging her hands into a plate of cookies, ignoring the tongs, on Silhouette mid-March - as the pandemic was closing in, 2020. The more accountability the better. My dream come true - BEHAVE, everyone!

This is certainly you right. But there is a zero% chance of no covid testing, no guests wearing masks, AND no crew wearing masks in 2021. I would look at switching to 2022 cruises if it were me.

Not being concerned about getting Covid is one of the major reasons that the US death count has passed 202,000 and continues to climb.

well stated!  I hope this did come as being at all critical of kkid, certainly his/her choice, which I respect.  I already wear a mask everywhere I go as soon as I step outside my door and it will not bother me to do so on a cruise.  Though I do think I will be spending quite a bit of time on my awesome balcony, breakfast lunch dinner evening cocktails and snacks...

Then you might as well cancel now.  IMO, it'll be a guarantee that you'll be required to wear a mask part of the time at bare minimum.

 

And you really should be concerned about catching it if you refuse to wear a mask.  Ask Herman Cain how that went for him...

I read this morning about dogs in Finland trained to sniff out those with COVID 19.

They are already using them in the airport.   I vote for dog screening prior to boarding as they are almost 100% accurate.    According to the article you have to swab your neck and the dog will smell that cloth.

Hoping at some point, the mask requirement will be removed, despite it being a huge safety factor at present. Very uncomfortable and makes breathing difficult after awhile.   

 

We are hopeful our lift and shift into 2022 will get us beyond the masks.   If not we will live on our balcony, use up our FCC and not book anything else

Your choice and whatever works for you.  For us, masks on guests or crew are not a problem, testing is definitely not a problem (and completely expected).  We wear masks every day, all day with no issue.  The cruise experience will be different but I'll still be able to sit on my balcony sipping a glass of wine, or a cup of coffee and feel the serenity that that gives me.  I'll be first in line when the CDC says "SET SAIL" to the cruiselines.

The proposal is for the mask to be a requirement indoors.  Only required outdoors if you're unable to distance from others.  Seems like every-other pool chair would be sufficient.   

 

It will be interesting to see how they handle the casino and if a drink in hand circumvents the mask and distancing.

Someone on MSC boards posted that in the casino every other seat at tables and definitely No standing to watch table games behind players.

 

Mask can be removed to eat or drink if sat down you cannot wander all over the ship

Whether we sail or not in '21 is a moot point right now, but I'm really liking the proposed measures...especially if they include distancing on the pool deck, dining room, theatre, elevator, OC, etc.  The ships in the past have been totally over-crowded;  it'll be a pleasure to have personal space (even if we have to pay more).   😄

Fouremco you are one I do respect here.  Yes we do have a lot of cases and deaths in the USA.  This is very well documented and discussed.  The vast majority of us in the USA are very concerned and we are doing our part the best we can.  There are of course people everywhere in every country that just think for themselves and flaunt the rules.  Very sad but very human.  Unfortunately many countries that initially controlled the virus are now subject to rising cases and deaths- yes even Canada.  I am not at all happy about this global second wave- but it has been predicted since early this year.  There is no need for any of us here to comment on other countries  - we are all in this together.  Thanks!🙂

Very nicely said.  It is indeed true that most of us are doing our best here in the US.  

 

In point of fact, while I am not defending how well we are or are not doing, we currently rank 9th (depending on date of survey) in deaths per 100.000 of population.  But for some reason the US is the country consistently criticized on Cruise Critic, even though several other countries with large amounts of cruisers as well as infected people per their population are not even mentioned (I will not single out any one).  One reason our numbers are large is because we are large, and sensationalist news headlines like to focus on things that will grab people's attention.  Large numbers do that, especially when quoted without context, such as rates per capita.   Unfortunately cases are rising again in many countries, even those who had good numbers before.  We are all fighting this together and it would be nice if we could think that way.

Rick, had this thread discussed protocols for sailing out of the UK, and a Brit stated that he wasn't concerned about COVID-19, I would have made the same comment with respect to UK deaths. And yes, the same with a Canadian covidiot had we been talking about potential protocols to be imposed by a Canadian agency. Any resident of any country who makes such a statement needs to be reminded of what the consequences are of adopting such an attitude.

No problem,  and no offense taken.   I do agree that covidiots are out there in most countries. Most will not care about our reminders here or anywhere since they care less about anything other than themselves.  Hoping for a Vaccine soon and restart of an enjoyable and safe cruise experience!  That is my focus anyway.
