Well like others have said, it may work for awhile or even sometimes 2 days then back to square one.   Such as now-I had to clear my data/cache to be able to post this plus of course had to sign back in.

Indeed, the overall problem has not been "resolved."  I was kicked off on my iPad earlier today.  As the discussions on this long thread confirm, the issue is intermittent.  Things may work fine for a day or so or more, and then they don't.

Right now Chrome is working for me on my PC.  Edge is not.  The problem is not resolved.

Ugh....sorry to hear there are STILL  problems. 😐

Might've spoken a bit too soon...was just so surprised and happy...the first time in a WEEK to FINALLY be able to sign in like normal with no incognito, etc...

Fingers crossed the issues I previously experienced are gone for good and that yours will end shortly!

I was excited once as well when it worked properly for 2 days!  I seem to always have to clear most times I try to sign in now using safari on iPhone.

I absolutely hate clearing my cache/cookies on my phone, because so many of my work resources require me to be on-site to log in 'fresh' - so I've been limping along using incognito for CC.  Today, I tried to get the login fields to pop up AND IT WORKED!!  HOORAY!  I don't know if whatever busted cache/cookie just expired, or what, but I'm so grateful and I hope it doesn't happen again!

My laptop is working on Edge and Chrome.   Now, if we could only get the tablet to work.  I have to travel for work tomorrow and that is so much easier to take along.

Hi, I'm finally able to get my iPad to work, try logging out, & rebooting, then log in again... & keep those fingers crossed lol 😉  maybe some pixie dust lol

Oh, believe me, I have done that dozens of times along with clearing out cookies and caches.   I just have the poison cookie that doesn't get deleted and I have to wait for it to expire.

For the past couple of days, when I’m logged in on my iPhone, I can’t reply on a thread without the entire thread being pulled into my comment. This is a re-tread of a problem that has cropped up before. The only solution is to delete the CC cookies.  (Also, there’s no way for me to log out on my phone.)

@CC Help Jenn I think we’ve all been enormously patient here, but the situation is beyond frustrating. And frankly, it’s difficult to understand why the problem has not been fixed in all this time. In fact, in my experience, it’s just getting worse. Thank you for helping with this.

Innumerable other Invision-based forums work just fine. The difference with Cruise Critic is the apparent attempt to share a user database and login state with their main web site and the forum software, and have those elements of the main web site exist (i.e., ,those top few lines which also include login actions) on the same pages as the forum pages.

Simplest solution until they sort out the conflicting problem of how it's implemented is to remove and separate that functionality so the all the forum pages solely rely and use the Invision-based functionality for login and login states.

I'd consider a better solution to include dumping Invision forum software completely. I despise many elements of it. 🙂 But I'm also realistic that they've invested a lot in making customizations, however poor I think they are in architecture and/or implementation, to perform some unique things here.

But the simplest of functionality is the concept of logging on and retaining that logged on/authentication information. And in that, this web site currently fails miserably. And apparently has been failing for well over a year, based on this very thread. I've been participating in it since June, almost 6 months. The stagnation in any apparent attempt to investigate or fix this is very telling.

@CC Help Jenn the cookies problem (or whatever the log in issue is) is getting worse and worse.  In the past few days, I have appeared to be logged in on CC, but in reality, I'm not.  I've had to clear the CC cookies repeatedly during a single day, especially on my iOS devices (but also in Chrome on Windows as well).   Often, I will open CC, appear to be logged on, see a number in the green circle on the notification bell, click on the number, but have the wheel spin around forever.  This is one clue that I am not really logged in, though the site says I am.  This morning, this happened on my iPhone.  I tried to log out, but got the error message and error code that you see below, which of course means I wasn't really logged in, and yet the notification ball indicates that CC thought I was.

I am not a tech expert, but there are CC members who are, and they have commented in this thread about the likely cause(s) of this problem, and have offered to provide info that would help solve it.   I do not understand why this continuing, frustrating problem has not been fixed in all this time.  (Indeed, I think it is getting worse.)   When things are bad, communication helps.  Can you please let us know what is going on here in the effort to solve this problem, and when we can expect this problem to be fixed?

Thank you!

Unfortunately I do not have an update at this time.  I have been and will continue to share all of your findings with our team.  I will let you know when a fix is planned.

I'm giving up on this site for now.

It’s more than frustrating…it’s absolutely ridiculous this has been going on for so long.   I enjoy being part of this community and sharing of information for cruising but having to clear cache EVERY time just to get signed in again is beyond frustration now.

@CC Help Jenn Please give an update regarding this ongoing long time issue and is anyone actually trying to resolve this?

If you look back up at comment 515 (!), Jenn gave this update on Nov. 9:   "Unfortunately I do not have an update at this time.  I have been and will continue to share all of your findings with our team.  I will let you know when a fix is planned."

Not very encouraging.  I agree with you, it's ridiculous that this has been going on for so long.  In this past week, I have found myself logged out daily, and repeatedly on the same day.  It's absurd to have to keep clearing cookies.   Half the time when it appears that I'm logged in, and I try to reply to a post, the reply box pulls in the ENTIRE thread, which means that I'm logged out.  Of course, if I'm logged o out, I should not even have the option to try to reply.   (I would hope this sort of info would be good troubleshooting material for anyone trying to fix these issues, but it's not even clear that anyone is.)

If CC has just given up on trying to fix this, I wish they'd let us know, as you have asked.

I knew when the last update about the issue was but tagged her so she knows how frustrated we still are with no fix.   I do wonder if they’ve given up.   Long time members are frustrated so you can imagine if new members have this they’d probably  just give up.

Agreed.  I have been fine now for weeks, for the most part, and just started getting hit again.  Could not respond to a post, or look at notifications.  I closed the window and came back later and it was fine.  This is getting really annoying.

Has the team requested any cookie or cache data from users yet?  Or have they already been able to reproduce this problem for themselves?

I have merged your new thread into one of the existing threads regarding your situation. As you can see, you are not alone. There are other ongoing problems concerning software issues at this time and they have their threads too. Hopefully something in this merged thread will be helpful for you.

See her notice titled October 19, 2021: Log In Issues in the red bar at the top of all forums at this time and her post #519 for the latest non-update.

If you are really bothered by it, you can send an email to LauraS, Senior Manager Community, at community@cruisecritic.comPlease send your email from your Cruise Critic email address of record. Also, please mention your Cruise Critic user name, device, browser and include any screen shots that might be helpful.
