Looks like I'll be taking my cane with me on the next cruise.

I will continue to take my shillelagh with me ... but it may be getting closer to renting a scooter for a cruise ... ☹️

Let's put hand sanitizers outside all elevators and stairways.  And the elevator door will only open if you have used the hand sanitizer.  It recognizes if you have used it.  So what happens if there is a crowd outside the elevator and someone uses the hand machine;  the elevator door opens and everyone piles in;  even those who haven't used the hand sanitizer machine.  I really have not clue as to what the cruise lines are working on for the elevator situation.  We shall see in June when the lines start up again.

I fail to see why you need to use a hand sanitiser if you are getting into a lift. What good does it do?

What good is hand sanitizing do for Covid?  Despite the rhetoric, Covid is transmitted by air, rarely by touch.  I get the impact that it MIGHT have for Noro (if it's the correct lotion), but it won't do much for Covid.  I just read the initial rqmnts by CDC.. it's NOT workable.  If one has mobility issues at all.. like not being able to go up stairs easily... they're screwed.

wowzz and Redwing55;  I guess the the hand sanitizer is to make people comfortable when they push the elevator button.  I see hand washing stations all over the ship, when you enter the buffet, dining rooms, bars.  People like to make sure their hands are clean prior to touching anything.  That's it.

Yep.  Elevators are the real challenge the cruise lines have been unwilling to even mention much less discuss.  Ships that ahem sailed in Europe have sectioned off and elevator into 4 squares - 4 passengers max.  Another reasons that masks will still need to be worn.

Smaller ships help.  The "R" class ships of Azamara and Oceania have small elevators which never seem crowded as people can usually walk between decks.  Mega ships rely on elevators, stuffed to the gills, to  move people.

Elevator protocols needs to be developed, promulgated and adhered to.

Should there be a couple of elevators designated for handicap?

That does not impact the overall challenge of moving the total number of people between decks.  Same number of people to move whether there are "handicapped only" lifts or not.

At the end of the day we might all be walking the stairs a bit more and  keep  the elevators  for those that  have mobility issues. Choose your cabins wisely. 🙂

But if I get in the lift and don't touch anything, why do I need to use hand sanitiser ?

And, as has been said, Covid is spread through the air, so why bother about rubbing your hands with a bit of alcohol?

Seems to me that hand sanitising has become some sort of Holy Grail,  whereas, with regards to CV19 it is absolutely useless.

wowzz,   I wonder why the CDC in Atlanta Georgia and Dr. Fauci keeping telling us Americans to wash hands frequently.  I assume it's because you don't know who has been somewhere before you.  Grocery Store, bar, elevator.  If someone sneezes in any of the areas;  the virus his airborne and swirling around.  I like your thinking.  You are ready to cruise and don't see a need to have any had sanitizers on a ship.  I get that.  But the CDC won't let the ships sail without them.  Especially in the US.  But then maybe that is why the cruise lines are moving their ships to other ports outside the US.  Have a great weekend

The fact is that CV19 is transmitted through the atmosphere.  The chances of catching CV19 through surface transference is negligible.

So, sanitizers on a ship are a good thing, but they are useless in reducing transmission of CV19.

No, just wondering out loud. Seems the last cruise I was on had hand sanitizers all over the ship.

Hopefully not! It's just stupid to worry about hand sanitizers in a lift.

just in Hawaii upscale hotel where there was one Ohana (family) allowed in the elevator at a time and hand sanitizers outside the elevator. I can;t see this working on a cruise ship however, cruises have crowds at embarkation, casinos, shows, dining. It will be interesting to see if cruising can survive this mess.

I am booked on a cruise in January.  I am waiting to see how they handle the elevators as I have to use them as "mobility challenged."  I can go one or two flights hanging on to the railings and going very slowly but that is it.  Having seen what has happened prior to the Covid (people pushing on and not get off even when the "buzzer" goes off indicating overload, pushing in front of scooters, etc.) I can't see how this will be handled.  If reports come back for long waits to get an elevator, people jumping the line, then I am going to have to reluctantly  cancel as much as I really, really, want a cruise!

The one where they serve you rather than you help yourself to the food. We actually had this on our last HAL cruise, and it was fine.

Don't know if they still do it but HAL has been doing a not self serve buffet for the first 2 or 3 days of the cruise for years.  Seems to work for them.

I guess you use telekinesis to have the elevator stop at the deck you want since you will not be touching anything.

Why is any elevator an issue?  One isn't in one that long so even if exposed to the virus, it shouldn't be long enough to cause an infection.  I'm basing this on the premise that one has to be exposed for more than 15 minutes.

And while indoors, “everyone” should be wearing a mask 🤔 I’m with you, don’t see a problem either ………

Should I ever have the desire to get in a lift can I not use my medallion connection to activate the lift to my floor choice?

I am quite happy to use my finger. I won't contract CV19 from a one second contact.

I was wondering about your system.  The medallion wont know where you want to go and was thinking you have to be using something.
