Rare onlyslightlymad Posted September 1, 2021 Author #352 Share Posted September 1, 2021 Hi all, at home now. Have spent all day getting ready. Takeaway/delivery slots all booked up. Not such good news on the numbers front. 75 new cases in Auckland today, so up from yesterday. let's hope it's just a blip on the radar.

Camera at top of stairs on a tripod. I used an app on my phone to trigger the shots. The bottle is a prop as i haven't been able to drink for about 5 months because of pain meds. My camera club has a set topic for September of "stairs". So i got creative. The next day, I re-set the camera and added a flash. Here is an example (cap hiding the see through hair):

We went to the winery on our SA trip earlier in the year. They had very few wines to taste which was a disappointment. We've always liked their riesling but found a couple of good reds while there including an amazing but rather expensive grenache.

We have been redoing our food, wine and gin menus. The cost of food has gone up so much. The next inflation figures will be interesting. Anyway, sample boxes of wine and gin have been arriving at our door. A very nice Aussie Merlot from Thorn-Clark called Sandpiper. Excellent value for money. I was most impressed. Rare onlyslightlymad Posted September 1, 2021 Author #363 Share Posted September 1, 2021 This was in this morning's paper. It's actually a proper poll based on a sample of 1000 random NZers rather than one of those dopey click polls. Thought you might be interested. Comments from the epidemiologists say that the 70% question is too low a % but that's probably borrowed from Aus. Let's be honest, the actual target is "as many people as possible". Rare MicCanberra Posted September 1, 2021 #364 Share Posted September 1, 2021 70% fully vaxed for 16+ is not Australia's aim, but just the next (2nd) stage, 80% is the 3rd stage. Once we get past 80% the cruiselines may start up, hence the optimism for cruising in the new year
Rare MicCanberra Posted September 2, 2021 #365 Share Posted September 2, 2021 All of Australia (by states) are over 50% single dose now for the 15+ population, NSW in the lead now with 71%. For double doses, the ACT is in the lead at 44% .
Tranquility Base Posted September 3, 2021 #366 Share Posted September 3, 2021 4 million extra Pfzier soon arriving in Australia from the UK. Well done to the team organising that. Australia should have a very healthy total percentage vaccinated by November. 4

So did Victoria but they may have lost the battle already. The NZ lockdown is tougher than any of the Australian ones so that might help. Around our way people getting takeaways is a big gap in the lockdown. Either people not social distancing while waiting for orders, or people using takeaway coffees as an excuse to socialise with their mates.

In October, November and December we are supposed to be getting 10 million Moderna and from October we are getting 2 million doses of Pfizer a week. So we should have enough to resupply the UK as we hopefully will have the majority of people vaccinated by that time.

It's hard to imagine getting 2 million Pfizer per week though, isn't it, when it's been in such short supply. But good job if it all turns up. Everyone here hoping for a booster shot? I am. Had my second AZ in late June so hoping for later this year/early next year.
pully8 Posted September 3, 2021 #374 Share Posted September 3, 2021 Yes many will be needing a booster. We are totally reliant on the govt to deliver. Not possible to obtain privately or go elsewhere to get the vaccine.
ilikeanswers Posted September 3, 2021 #375 Share Posted September 3, 2021 There is some promising research into a universal coronavirus vaccine. It would certainly mean less boosters for variants: A universal COVID-19 vaccine is needed in fight against new variants
