bennybear Posted November 28, 2021 #103 Share Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) Good morning and thanks all. We had the pleasure of dining at US Thanksgiving with Sabine Ruhmann when she was Ist officer. She has been promoted to Staff Captain and I believe she is on the Koningsdam. It was on the same cruise where we visited Cartagena and did climb up to the fortress. Unfortunately CC is not cooperating with my photos! Ooh fourth time lucky! Rare Vict0riann Posted November 28, 2021 #109 Share Posted November 28, 2021 Good morning, Dailyites. Thanks for all the news - I had started reading but then had to leave for church. As it is the first Sunday of Advent... Father called a man up from the congregation to light the first candle in the Advent wreath. He dropped the first match on the tablecloth, and it flared up, Father had to extinguish it, the next match he dropped on the floor, Father had to step on it After that he said he was thankful we didn't have to call the fire department! It has been pouring down rain all night, and just letting up a bit now. The ducks and Canada geese are loving it. The deer, maybe not so much. It turns their fur a much darker brown. I remembered Dailyites in my prayers - Roy, Jacqui and Jose, Charlene's DSIL and family, and everyone who needs it. Now we have another worry - omicron... who knows what will happen with it. We need to vaccinate the whole world and try to stop these variants from developing. We visited Cartagena with Jacqui and Jose on Westie a few years ago, and Jacqui organized a great tour , our pictures are much like the others. Also, when we were first married we lived in Barranquilla, Colombia, and visited friends in Cartagena a couple of times. We also invested in a few emeralds! 16

Rare rafinmd Posted November 28, 2021 #114 Share Posted November 28, 2021 All of my visits to Cartagena have been on Crystal and I have just a few things to add. I think the aviary is actually inside the gates although the exit is a bit confusing. I know the downtown shops have a nickname of "the Dungeon". The building actually started life as a dungeon and the dark, long, narrow stalls actually were Dungeon cells in prior times. It's been noted that stays in Cartegena tend to be rather short. I think that's largely because it's a convenient stop for PVSA on Panama Canal transits and does not really tend to be a featured port. It's also a popular stop in the Panama Canal Season and I've spotted a number of ships including a few BHB's. I docked across the pier from the Westerdam in 2018 and again with the Eurodam a couple months later. The Westerdam: There are a snack bar and wifi in the terminal but I found it extremely slow. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted November 28, 2021 #116 Share Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) Good afternoon from sunny San Diego. We had to change cabins, and it took longer than expected. Happily, we are now settled in, and I trying to catch up on the Daily. It is an interesting collection of days. We tried to have French toast this morning, but they weren't serving in the Lido today. We've had it a few times, and it was as good as usual. I wrote letters, mostly typed in recent years, to my stepmother and to DH's stepmother until they died. Now, I correspond with friends by email. I still send a Christmas letter with the cards. Mars is a fascinating planet. The quote was interesting. We have been to Cartagena many times. After the first time when we took a tour, we have taken a taxi to the clock tower in the old town and walked around. Our last time there was on the Statendam in 2015, and it was the only time we felt uneasy and didn't stay long. We enjoyed walking around the port complex. Thank you to all who posted pictures. Happy Hanukkah to all who will be celebrating beginning tonight. @TiogaCruiser I can't believe you found my post about Sabine. She is still on board, and Captain Henk Draper mentioned her during Ask The Captain yesterday, and had good things to say about her. @cunnorl Our condolences on the loss of your DSIL. @smitty34877 Terry, when I did a quick scan of yesterday's Daily, I saw Camilla's latest picture. That cutie is really growing. @JAM37 Julia, I'm happy your eye is better, and that you had a great visit with all your family. @mamaofami Carol, it sounds like you had a wonderful visit with your grandsons. @dfish Debbie, I'm glad Sue made it home safely. I hope all the rain and wind stops soon in the NW and BC, and that the flooding recedes soon. That is a horrible situation. Safe travels to all who are traveling today. I scored a great deal on an emerald pendant....our tour guide managed to negotiate a lower price on it. We had done no research on emeralds so it was kind of a crap shoot. Took it to our local gem appraiser when we got home & it appraised for over twice as much as we had paid. You were lucky you had a great tour guide and got such a great deal. 2 hours ago, Vict0riann said: Good morning, Dailyites. kplady Posted November 28, 2021 #119 Share Posted November 28, 2021 Good evening all, I've been hit by the CC gremlins, having trouble liking or posting...I've found if I go to the top of the page and log out, then log back in, things have been working (hope my mentioning this doesn't jinx it!!) We were in Cartegena in 2016 on a partial Panama Canal cruise on Coral Princess. I had to look at my pictures to remember what I did there (my DH wasn't feeling great, so he stayed on the ship). I went on a ship excursion to a jewelry school, where I made a bracelet and earrings out of rough emeralds and silver wire. It was fun, even though the young lady who was my "teacher" spoke no English, we managed to get everything completed! Then we went to a jewelry museum, and saw lots of emeralds in the showcases. Prayers for everyone going through rough medical issues....cheers to those celebrating and cruising! Take care of yourselves, I love our little family here!!
