billslowsky Posted February 14, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2022 Sorry if this has been answered a thousand times elsewhere. After our upcoming trip we will be two points short of Diamond, which adds free drinks to our future trips. I have fewer points than my wife, but my profile lists her points level as mine. I'm considering taking a cheap inside cabin on a 4 day cruise later this summer for the purpose of getting to that next level. My question is whether that will work - points from my trips alone are lower and the additional 4 wouldn't put my own total at the next level, but when added to hers it will. The cost of the trip would more than cover 4 drinks a day times two people times seven days on a later trip. Has anyone done this?
firefly333 Posted February 14, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2022 They will not add the pts you earn to her pts, they will be added to yours. The good thing if solo, 4 pts is 8 pts .. will that be enough. Solo gets 1 more pt per day.
Rare twangster Posted February 14, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2022 What you see when you log in is her point counter but behind the scenes Royal still tracks your actual points. How far are you from Diamond based on the cruises you have sailed?

Starry Eyes Posted February 15, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2022 How many points is your wife ahead of you? If 6 points or less, your plan to make D with a solo 4 night cruise in a regular cabin will work as it will add 8 points to your total (to you real total, not the one belonging to your wife). cruiseguy1016 Posted February 15, 2022 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2022 How much is the short cruise going to cost? Is the money you spend on this short cruise going to be more than what those free drinks will cost of you have to buy them? Even with this short cruise, you still won't be getting the drinks on your next cruise, that won't happen until the cruise AFTER you earn Diamond. Sometimes people chase the points and end up spending more than what the benefit is worth.

But the all-in cost (with taxes and all) is about $700, while the drink package for two even discounted is over $900, so yes, along with a cheap cruise we'd save $200 on the resulting one. To be fair, the 4 D drinks don't equate to a full drink package. Don't go chasing points for getting to D - enjoy the journey getting there.
Rare cruiselvr04 Posted February 15, 2022 #9 Share Posted February 15, 2022 We took a 3 night cruise to become diamond before a 12 night. It was worth it to us. You'll get the points and your wife will enjoy the benefits too next time. The DH has one less 7 nighter then me but our points are the same. I'll use any excuse to cruise! You're points really aren't the same if you have an extra cruise. Call C&A and ask what your husbands total points are for an accurate accounting. I have taken my mother-in-law on 19 nights of cruises plus did a couple of girls cruises with my best friend. I have 27 more points then DH. Has has my points but if he cruises without me all that does is add points to his lower total - not raise my total or our overall total.

And between us, I would have wound up with 2 of the 8 drinks.

Since your C&A accounts are linked, your DH sees your higher point number when he signs in; nevertheless they do track his individual number. You have one more 7 nighter than he (I’ll assume 1 point per night lacking other info). So, if he took a 7 night cruise with a friend, his personal total would rise by 7 to equal yours. The number on the screen for the two of you would not change.

His point total shows up the same as yours because he is sharing your status. If you were to call RCI, they would tell you his point total is a lower number than yours. 14 minutes ago, Starry Eyes said: Since your C&A accounts are linked, your DH sees your higher point number when he signs in; nevertheless they do track his individual number. Those "extra" points shown are the so called "inherited" points - points you get because a linked person of your household did earn them. It´s always the highest amount of points shown. The amount of "earned" points (those you got by cruising on your own) may be lower. If the person with less points is cruising solo the total amount of points might not rise because "inherited" points are consumed by "earned" points. As an example... You have 7 inherited points and go solo on a 4 nighter. You earn 8 points but your account will only show 1 point more than before the cruise. Those 7 inherited points have been consumed. The other person in the household now has 1 point more showing in the account - 1 "inherited" point. steamboats

When I call C&A to make any changes to a cruise booking and give them my C&A number, they quote my point total - which is 7 points shy of my wife's total. The C&A website shows her total, and that is the one that triggered all the advancement in loyalty levels.

Similar thing happens to me when I call…the agent mentions my earned points, which are 8 lower than DH (4night solo). Whether or not I take a friend on a 7 night cruise in a balcony cabin will not change when and I will reach the next milestone.

RoperDK Posted February 15, 2022 #24 Share Posted February 15, 2022 Fairly new to Royal and am getting a bit confused. We get casino cabins on another cruise line often, but are wanting to switch to Royal. Do casino offers/free cabins still get full Crown and Anchor points? We usually book a suite and get 2 points per night. If we use casino offers will that affect our point accumulations? Would someone explain linked accounts? How do the accounts get linked? Does anyone sailing in a cabin with lets say a Diamond member get the same benefits as the Diamond member? That doesn't seem right.
