Another brief installment from the onboard F&B Department:

HAL has restarted the cooking demos. We just had a chef make blackened tuna and chili relleno. Tomorrow is tortilla soup. Recipes are supposed to be available at the Front Desk.

PV highlights and cooking class yesterday: we made salsa, guacamole and tostadas.

Good morning from sunny and very windy Quartzsite.  Our high today will only be in the mid 80s, and tomorrow, we'll reach about 73F.

I'm late today since we went early to get the blood draw for our annual lab tests.  Unfortunately, it was busy today, and what is usually about a 15-30 minute wait was more than an hour.  At least, that is behind us for another year.  We stopped for a drive-thru breakfast on the way home and then took care of a few chores.

I like the harmony of barbershop quartets in small doses.  We have not had poutine, but have seen it when we were in Canada several years ago.  We'll celebrate pet day, by remembering all our cats and dogs who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  We'll enjoy granddog Bee when we see her.

I like today's quote.  We have salmon in the freezer, but today I'll be smoking some babyback ribs for dinner along with coleslaw.  The wine sounds interesting, but we'll pas on the drink.

We were in Portland and Weymouth in 2017 on the Prinsendam.  That day, we rented a the last "car' left  which was actually a small panel van rented for moving.  Maybe that's why when we got a ticket for being in a bus lane, the officials did not believe the rental company when told tourists from the US had rented the van.  Anyway, we drove to Bath that day.  I'll see what pictures I have of Weymouth and Portland in a little while.

@marshhawk  I hope the dentist visit wasn't too painful for you or your wallet.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope getting the necessary arrangements finalized wasn't too stressful.

@cat shepard  Ann, thank you for the picture of the deer.

@JAM37  Julia, good news that DH is feeling better and that you are also doing better.

@ger_77  Gerry, HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY to your DGS.

@grapau27  Graham, I hope the x-rays don't show too much damage to your knees and that any treatment is minimally invasive.

@StLouisCruisers, Sandy, @rafinmd, Roy, and @bennybear, Brenda, thank you for your pictures.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandy, DH and I have ridden donkeys before.  We did a tour of Sign Great House in Jamaica which included a donkey ride.  Granted, this was in 1975 when we were younger.  It's like riding a slow horse, only you're lower to the ground. 🤣

@Sea Viewer  I hope your DH's procedure went well and that he is doing all right.  Glad you could wait inside today.

@Cruising-along  HAPPY 48th BIRTHDAY to your DS.

@durangoscots  Susan, I'm glad the roof is almost finished and hope the winds today and tomorrow don't undo a lot of the work.

@AV8rix  I'm glad you got to visit with Sabine.  Every time we saw her around the ship, she was with another officer, so we didn't interrupt.

@4966and556  Could you possibly be thinking of @krazy kruiser who passed away last year.  I have also been wondering about @sails7seas.

@TiogaCruiser  Cooking demonstrations were held on the Koningsdam last November and December and also on our last cruise on her in March and April.  They were the same two demonstrations each time.

@RuthC  Ruth, computers are also available on the Koningsdam on the starboard side of the Crow's Nest.

On August 18, 2017, we visited Portland and Weymouth on the Prinsendam.  These pictures were taken when we got off the shuttle in Weymouth and after we returned the rental car when we walked around before taking the shuttle back to Portland and the Prinsendam.

Our early morning stroll while we checked with the rental companies.

I just saw a new thread asking about Sail 7 Seas. I seem to remember that she passed some months ago; or is my rememberer playing tricks on me?

No, it wasn’t Sail who passed.  It was Yonnie (Krazy Kruzers).  No report on Sail and I haven’t seen an obituary.

Can’t answer on Candy but Joanie (IRLJoanie) passed away about 2-3 years ago IIRC.

Good evening everyone from the newly refurbished Nautica.  She is a beauty.

We are sailing from Barcelona to Alicante tonight.  Seas are rough and we are rocking and rolling.

Thank your @rafinmdfor the Bon Voyage. I appreciate it.

Today was a busy day with check-in and unpacking, etc.

Check-in was interesting.  We were told that we would be tested at the pier today, but if we wanted Oceania to cover any expenses if we tested positive, it was suggested that we be tested 72 hours prior to boarding. So we did so, as did others.

Well, we presented our papers, and we were never tested again.

We were handed K-95 masks and told it was mandatory to wear them everywhere on the ship except our staterooms or when eating or drinking.  Everyone is complying.

We have a nice suite (Penthouse) same size as what @aliaschiefhad on Azamara.  Everything is brand new and I think we are the first ones in here since the refurbishment.

The ship is 70% full.  It was only 50 % on the prior voyage from Rome.

I was unaware that Joanie had passed away.  Knew about Yvonne.  Interesting that no one knows anything about Sail.

Happy Birthday to @ger_77.  Many more.

Prayers for all who need them especially those who have loved ones that are ill or are suffering from various illnesses.

@StLouisCruisersLove all your photos.  They are wonderful and thank you for taking the time to post them;.

I tried posting some of Barcelona and don’t know what is wrong.  They all come out black.  I am doing something wrong but don’t know what.  Will try again.

In Barcelona I bought a sweater for Jim for his birthday next Monday.  However, it was cold on Sunday so I gave it to him early and suggested he wear it.  Well, we found out that the security device was never removed.  The store in Barcelona was closed on Sunday, as are all the stores.  So tomorrow in Alicante we have to go to the same store to have the device removed.  Not exactly what I had in mind for our day there.  Oh well!  We will then have a paella lunch on the Esplanade.

It is after 10 pm and i am tired.  What else is new!   I am going to get ready for bed.  Tomorrow is another day Scarlett!

God Bless everyone.

Greetings, fellow Dailyites!  Interesting days.  It is always special to remember pets who have meant so much in our lives.  We had some real characters over the years.  I miss having any pet, but with traveling and volunteering, it is best not to complicate a pet's life!

Poutine would not be for me.  Since I eat fries only about once every two or three years, it wouldn't be on my menu.  I love potatoes in most forms, but not fries!

I join others with family members with a birthday.  My special DGD is 37 today.  I don't know how that happened.  She is so loving and full of life that she is a joy!   A very happy birthday to all of today's celebrants!

It is overcast today again, with much the same forecast that @durangoscotshas!  A hard freeze will definitely hurt the Grand Valley fruit crops and vineyards.  So far, the wind hasn't started.  Of course, rain is forecast for tomorrow when I have to be gone for the entire day.

@grapau27it will be interesting to follow your knee progress.  Hope that you can get some answers and help.  My step-daughter won't even start with the shots, and she has two bad knees.  I thought I had her convinced that she need to make an appointment with her orthopedic doc.

Continued prayers for all on the Care List, which is thankfully shrinking a big.  And my continued special prayers for the caregivers who are doing such a great job!  (Hardest job ever).

Have a great rest of the day, everyone.

Thanks to all who sent cheer for our long weekend celebrating my Mother's 102nd birthday.  Always the best hosts for our big family get-togethers, my  sister and brother-in-law even had their smallest dog ready to help with the clean-up.IMG_6362.thumb.jpeg.0ee1909b8c8715664a8c431404ec279c.jpegGraham, I'll watch Palm Sunday's sermon today, thank you.  Prayers to all and sunny days (especially in Seattle, where we will travel for Easter).

Thank you.

The doctor is a specialist joint doctor and prescribed some Diclofenic gel and requested an x-ray of both knees then possibly steroid injections depending on what is found on the x-ray.

Graham.

Graham,

Good luck with the shots. I have had the steroid injections off and on for the last three years, and one time the Hyurlonic acid injection. Try to limit motion the first 48 hours for best results. Hopefully they also offer some physical therapy for you.  I am limited to only using acetaminophen do to other medications I take so a replacement is probably in my (hopefully not near!) future.

Thank you for your advice Jack.

Paracetamol tablets is what the practice Doctors and nurse advise because of possible interaction with Ibuprofen and my heart medication.

These guys are the current rulers of the household. Over the years we've had a St. Bernard, a Golden Retriever, and numerous cats.

Barbershop quartets can be fun if you're in the proper mood. Never had poutine but hope to remedy that when I'm in Canada this fall. I have not been to today's port, but if the Volendam resumes its schedule by August, I should get there on the British Isles trip. Fingers crossed!

I guess we are one of the older couples here.  Our DD will be 58 next week.  She and her husband are celebrating with a Mediterranean cruise on a Princess ship.  Just sent an email to our TA to finalize some things on our next cruise; the Westerdam in March and April.  We will celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary in Nagasaki.

I've been meaning to ask where Joanie and Candy are. I know Candy's husband died.  Joanie used to post a lot and I haven't seen anything from her.

Looking in quickly here today.  Just wanted to say that @Candy is the person who got us started with Holland America -- and I thank her for that.   She used to post very enthusiastically about the Noordam and made it sound very appealing.  That was the first HAL ship we sailed on, back in 2011.  Before that, we usually went with Celebrity.  We've been on most of the HAL ships since then.  I hope that all is well with Candy.
