is the Edge class over the Edge?

Hmm I wonder what would be deluxe about  a port hole?

Well, personally, I would (and will) book one of them over an IV...it has an open air portal...

ETA: I wouldn't pick this particular one because of the window washing machine...but the others don't have that obstruction...

Suite pricing has kept us off E class ships.

I sailed in a SS on Edge last year before Celebrity lost their minds vis a vis pricing. Very nice cabin. Retreat deck pool and bar was a big plus. I prefer Retreat lounge and Luminae on M-class though. A real bartender in the lounge and an intimate dining experience in Luminae with greater menu choices.

Overall, it feels like there's too many suites on E-class. When everybody's special, no one is special.

Excellent point!  I just did a mock booking for Beyond based on this thread and entry level suites for a 7 night Caribbean cruise with 3 sea days and uninteresting (to me) ports of call was $4900 pp.  Aqua class with all the perks was $2600 pp.  I just can't rationalize paying those prices when we just finished a Yacht Club all inclusive experience on MSC for less than 2K for 4 nights and about 4 K for 7 nights.  Just can't do it.

I agree suite prices on Celebrity are very high.  The value just isn't there for us.

Not a "veteran" cruiser here, but have been on 3 NCL cruises (last 3-4 years) 1 Royal cruise (10+ years ago)  I have only been in Aft cabins (once you go aft, you never go back..)  so can't comment on IV cabins...  Did my first X cruise in March 2022 on Apex in a SV and loved it.  The pool deck, the specialty dining, the theater, the casino, the martini bar, pretty much everything.  I do think they needed more bars/lounges and that is corrected on Beyond from what I can tell.  I have two more E-class cruises booked.  After my Apex cruise I realized how much I disliked NCL.

We also spent time on NCL in their Haven, which seems to be in line with current Celebrity pricing.  I thought the Haven product was great until I met MSC.  I know I'm sounding like an MSC cheerleader and I don't mean to.  They aren't perfect.  But for the price and suite amenities, it has definitely become my go-to.  I want to try the E-class at some point but every time I go to book, I just can't pull the trigger.

To me comparing S Class and E Class is comparing apples to oranges.  Yes, they are both Celebrity ships, but they are extremely different.  There are things I love about both classes.  On E Class I love the IVs, Eden, the 4 MDRs, the king size beds, the Rooftop Garden.  On S Class I love the Sky Lounge, Sunset Bar and soaring atrium.

I agree!  Each class has its own special appeal. When I'm booking , sometimes it's tough to choose. It's like my kids, I love them both equally but differently 😄

Most nights, we escaped to the Sunset Bar for quiet cocktails, weather permitting, of course.

IMHO the  Beyond has the best Sunset bar of all the X ships; larger than the others, plenty of covered seating great place for watching sunset, pre or post dinner drinks and quiet

I liked Beyond I took it in the summer for Italy/Greece so I did have a lot of port days (minus the one day I was flat out too tired so went to the spa while most people were in port).

But I get the impression that they are trying to appeal to certain people with this class of ships, I would book again but honestly with pricing I don't know if I could afford to - I have two cruises one next year and one 2024 on other class ships. But if pricing keeps up I don't know when I can afford to do it again.

We just switched our fall 2023 trans Atlantic from the Beyond to the Constellation, we had booked the Beyond before we did this fall's Ta on the Edge.  Having now sailed the Edge class I am not impressed at all, so I am wondering how the majority of veteran Celebrity cruisers feel.

My dislike is based on the lack of bars and lounges, the new dining concept and the amount of deck space devoted to high end boutiques.  To us the Edge was very different from all of the other Celebrity   ships we have sailed on.

To be sure, part of the idea behind The Edge Class is exactly what you experienced.

There are many here who either like or dislike this class (and there are many posts to support this accordingly).

When you indicated there is a "...lack of bars and lounges.", I thought there were plenty, just differently presented and positioned on The Edge Class.

Maybe it is the familiar you crave vs the new, possibly?

Nothing wrong with that as there are others who share your view, for sure.

bon voyage

Absolutely--That's the way it should be, however, some people ( not only suite passengers ) do feel " entitled".

I "assume" the same people act in the same manner whether on a cruise or not.

We have always received excellent service and made to feel " special " -- just treat the Staff with the respect they deserve.

(And we don't stay in a suite).

I sailed on the Edge in Feb 2020 with a few girlfriends. We chose it over the Equinox at the time. We had the IV and personally I wasn’t crazy about it. Even the Deluxe Porthole Verandah looks very tight on the balcony and if it’s in the bow, I will pass. I did enjoy the 4 different MDR and also the theatre was amazing. If you are travelling with another couple the IV balconies do not connect to each other like the S class ships. I still prefer the M and S class ships with a true balcony.

We were on the Apex TA , 4 dinning rooms were a nice change

Didn’t Like the layout of the theatre, and there was not enough sitting and the ship was 60% filled

The location of  the Martini bar area , music way too loud , couldn’t hear or talk with anyone

Bacio got drown out by the music from the Martini bar and the acoustics up there was terrible

Eden was like a wasted spaced , seating, very uncomfortable.

Just like the seating at the Sunset bar uncomfortable

There was a shortage of staff on the Apex and might made it feel worst than it was , definitely the TA not at the standards of celebrity of previous cruises

The IV Balconette was ok , that is not a deal breaker for us

We thought that Silhouette was our favourite Celebrity ship having sailed on Constellation and not liking her at all. Our last cruise was on EDGE in August 2019 and we absolutely loved her - other than Eden. We had a sunset veranda cabin and loved the dining room system and ... well, everything to be honest. Lovely ship 🙂

A few different thoughts come to mind when I read this comment....but I like you, Pinboy so I'm just gonna smile and nod and leave my arguments at the door.  After all, we are all here for our love of cruising.  🙂

Actually, Celebrity's Retreat pricing is starting to make Haven look good.  Never liked the pool in Haven, (don't like covered pools), but the Haven pool on Prima looks great.
