Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites!  Computer says it's 55 and cloudy. Cloudy=fog lifting.

Feral Fawn is still on the porch.  Her ear does not look as bad, and I went out yesterday and spent an hour giving her belly rubs and love.  We also figured out how to give 1/3 of a baby aspirin in cream to her.  But by last night, she was shaking her head again, she still is not eating, and she has only used the litter box 3 times in 5 days.  So something, still not right.  Mr. Bubbles is back in the car port.  Soft bed, and no dogs going after him.  Chuck put a lock and hasp on the house next door.  So hopefully no more break ins.  He said as far as a crime, breaking in, with no real theft of anything just looks weird.  But we have never been in that house before so we would not know if something of value was stolen.  Yesterday when i went and picked up their mail there was a small package for the wife.  I thought that was weird because why would you order something while you are out of the country and wont be back for another month?

I spend every moment of my life it seems planning my next vacation.

@NodakboilerWelcome to the daily!  The nicest place on CC.

One of our favorite restaurants does a spicy shrimp corn chowder.  I make a great corn chowder.  I do like clam chowder.

@grapau27I too think you are on a cruise.  Or someplace vacationing.  The food porn has been wonderful.

Good morning! Due to dense fog we will be dealing with flight delays all day. So more hours in airports than expected. Just need to remember we are not in charge!
It’s Cancún or bust!😎

Thanks Sandi for filling in. Roy hope your getting better and thoughts and prayers for those on our Care List.

Not much change but I am concerned about bowel movements which usually require some straining and I don’t have the stamina.  I hope the Dr will have something useful.  Typing on the iPad is difficult so if someone would be willing to share an email with me I could update tha group along with family.  @kazu also has my email but I can’t ask her to do it now.

A very quick good morning from a white and cold central Texas.  We either got snow or a lot of sleet earlier this morning, and more is on the way in about two hours.  It's strange outside, because the street and driveways across the street are white, but the driveways on our side of the street are just wet.  I think the houses protected them from the north wind.

I'm going to repost my pictures from Kodiak and then start the dreaded house cleaning.  I'll be back later to read the Fleet/Daily and comment.  The following is from Monday, July 18, 2022.

We have been to Kodiak 14 times, and all but two of those were on BHBS.  Our first time was in 1992, pre-digital, when we put out motorhome on the Tustemena, one of the fleet of the Alaska Marine Highway, for an overnight trip to Kodiak.  The motorhome fare cost way more than the fares for both of us and our DDs, and a room for four with a bath.  Since our first dachshund, Brandy, was with us, we had to take the motorhome for her to stay in.  Also, on the return trip, we left the Trusty Tusty in Seward.  We were only in Kodiak one night due to the ferry schedule, but we packed a lot of sightseeing into that day.

We did the 14-day out of Seattle 12 times by doing b2b2bs in 2010 and 2012 on Amsterdam, 2015 on Statendam and 2018 on Zaandam.  Also in 2018, we stopped in Kodiak on Coral Princess on the Circle the Northern Pacific cruise.  We have had great weather on several of the stops, cloudy, misty weather on other stops, and pouring rain on a few stops.  When it was pouring rain, we just stayed on the ship and watch the people trying to stay dry waiting for their tours.

On December 5, 2012, while we were on Koningsdam, this is what I posted about Kodiak.

I found a few different pictures of Kodiak on DH's tablet.  They are from our various trips except the one in 1992 in the pre-digital age.

@rafinmd, Roy, this first picture is for you.  I didn't find a good picture of the Tustemena in Kodiak, but this was her sailing out of Homer, bound for Kodiak.  I guess that counts.  For those who have never sailed on her or seen her, the tall structure near the stern is how vehicles are loaded on the ferry.  You drive onto the platform between the uprights, and are then lowered to the parking deck.  Once on that deck, a turntable rotates the vehicle so it can be driven to its parking spot.

Double-thank you Sandi, thank you Debbie, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for your daily contribution! And thank you all for being here!

DSIL started feeling ill on our drive home Sunday. Spent the day in bed and did a rapid test last evening. She unfortunately tested positive. It is the second time for her with COVID. We did have two staterooms although the sisters hung out together so I probably will remain negative. Because she was positive, Sue and I did the test as well with negative results. Sue and DSIL will go get a PCR test today to perhaps get medication.

I wanted to share Sue's photo of the sunrise from Sunday just after we went under the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the Outer Baltimore Harbor. It is one of two obstacles (Chesapeake Bay Bridge is the other) that limits what class cruise ship can enter Baltimore due to the air draft.

Stay Safe!

- Jack

In 2012, as usual, we rented a car.  This time we were in port long enough to drive out of town to the Pacific Spaceport Complex.  On the way back to town, we drove to Chiniak where we found an inn and café at the end of the road.

I found this explanation of the spaceport on line, and this is how it looked when I copied it.  The Pacific Spaceport Complex – Alaska (PSCA) on Kodiak Island provides responsive, flexible, and low-cost access to space for small- and light-lift vertical rockets and stratospheric balloons.  PSCA has been launching rockets since 1998 and was the first FAA-licensed spaceport not co-located on a federal range.

Good morning Dailyites.

Thank you Sandi for your dedication for filling in for Roy and Rich. Great job.

I finished my prayer book and started on Sandi's. Lots of prayers being sent this morning! Tana, Sarah, Jacqui, Kathy and of course our Roy and Sandi's friend/neighbor. And always, Ukraine. (Let's hope Roy can poop today)

My extraction yesterday was no picnic. But today I'm feeling much better and gingerly drinking a lukewarm coffee. Thank you for your thoughts. One thought, when my dentist pulled out the first root in one piece it made a loud pop, like a champagne cork! He showed it to me and it looked like a slug..

2 friends came by and sat with Allen while I was having surgery. Several neighbors stopped by with mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese,  potatoe soup, and my sweet friend brought Allen Vegan Jambalaya and rice and a chicken pot pie.

Our weather is due to be cold and nasty with freezing rain. The forecast goes into Thursday. I hope everyone stays safe. Sure wish I stocked up on more wine...

Sending blessings for an awesome day!

On some of the other Alaska ferries, vehicles drive right onto the parking deck. Foot passengers also board through the parking deck. Here's a motor home being loaded on the Matanuska.P8030039.thumb.JPG.64f7e92949e7fd379036087641cf35b0.JPG

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

Maybe I'll wear my shirt backwards today. I have treated myself to a piece of art (Peter Max) but it hasn't arrived yet. I will be planning for vacation! Good quote. I'm not a clam chowder fan (or clam anything). Pass on the drink, but I'll take the wine.

I've been to Alaska, but not Kodiak Island.

We got about 2" of snow overnight. Now it's 23F and cloudy. No big plans today. I hope to avoid shoveling and hoping for some melting of snow on the walk. I've started having trouble falling asleep; it was 2AM before I did this morning.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for starting us up and our lists. Prayers for your neighbor Rudy and his surgery today.

@Nodakboiler Welcome to the Daily!

@ottahand7 Sorry to hear your Canaletto dinner wasn't satisfactory.

@kochleffel Early Bon Voyage!

@ger_77 I hear you on how home improvements can eat up the travel budget!

@Cruzin Terri I hope the Prednisone helps with your pain.

@Rowsby Sorry about the shoulder pain, but the bed helping is great. I got an adjustable bed a few months ago, but no massage built in.

@aliaschief You'll get there!

@Quartzsite Cruiser Thanks for the Kodiak photos.

@Heartgrove Sorry to hear DSIL tested positive; hopefully a mild case. Great sunrise picture.

@Seasick Sailor I'm glad you're feeling better today. So nice of your neighbors to bring food over.

@rafinmd I hope the doctor can help you out with the issue. You can email me if need be: vrone15218 at yahoo.com

Prayers for the Care List, Tana, Jacqui, Sarah, Kathi and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay well everyone.

Good Morning from a warm and sunny day at the beach

Thanks Sandi @StLouisCruisers for keeping us going in place of Roy and Rich.   Roy @rafinmd hope you are feeling better soon.

We were in Kodiak in 2014 on the 14 day Amsterdam. Great trip. My pictures are very similar to what has already been posted

Everyday is vacation planning for me. I love to plan trips, of course I dont get to do most of them but it is good to dream

@Seasick Sailor Hope you are doing better today. What wonderful neighbors!

Had a great visit with my niece. She has now gone home. Next company that I know of is in March.

Not much going on here which is good. Back to playing golf so all is well. Have to get ready for our annual tournament in March Always a fun day.

  Stay safe and enjoy today

Good morning, everyone.  Sometimes when I read the daily I have to squeeze my eyes shut, cover my ears, and shout TMI!  TMI!  TMI!  to get the visuals out of my brain.  😂

I love art.

I am vacationed out.  WAY too much travel last year so I will not be planning any trips for a while.  We’ll see how long that lasts.

I like chowder but I am leaning towards corned beef and cabbage for supper.

Home Cook Hack:  If you eat tinned tuna, drain the broth into a container and keep it in the freezer.  Keep adding to it each time you open a can.  When you are reading to make seafood chowder you have a flavorful broth all ready for you.   *Note: this is not as effective if you eat tinned tuna in oil.  🙃

The drink of the day sounds good.  I haven’t been to Kodiak but I am enjoying the pics.  I can’t believe @Quartzsite Cruiser has been there 14 times!!!

@ottahand7, I am sorry to hear of your disappointing evening at the Canaletto.  The last time I went they ticked me off in a similar fashion and I haven’t been back.  I can hold a grudge for a pretty long time.  🫠

Today’s weather is completely the opposite of yesterday.  We reached a sunny high of 61f/16c yesterday (easy temperature conversion to remember and my nod to Backwards Day).  Today it is raining and the temperature is dropping.  But I got to see the Green Comet last night!

Here is today’s sunrise pic for Roy.  September 15, 2018 - Zuiderdam arrives into Boston.

Good morning. No snow here, thank you Mother Nature. It is supposed to warm up as the week goes along and maybe even make it to 40F by the weekend.

Have been to Kodiak once but my sight seeing was limited by a really rotten head cold that I did not want to pass around. So I walked around a bit by myself. I will have to try again.

Little new here. Some idiot is dumping puppies around town (it is obviously the same litter). Wish they would just bring them to us but I guess they don't want to be asked for a $ donation. We would take them without. I hope we have found all of them it is really cold out there. Pit Bulls, naturally.

Still clearing and tossing, and not very fast. Am also waiting on one last piece of tax info so I can get that started.

Susan

Thanks Roy.  Should have said Drake Passage but I guess it really could be considered a strait.  I looked up the location of Dallmann Bay and even found a map.  It's near Gerlache Strait.  Lower left corner of the map between the two larger islands.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVIpXllmMsNvXFciXmrUh5HpaAUrgnwgvQnZ_1RWb7NZPA?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1675180698

Thank you everyone for your contributions to the Daily Report!

It snowed a tiny bit here yesterday.  Nothing that needs to be shoveled though.

Absolutely no plans for today.

I'm guessing a nice hotel or resort someplace.  Maybe Lake District which wouldn't be too, too far from Sarah.

Only had one problem....I elevated the head and turned on the massage...and didn't want to get out and finish making my bed.....😅

And....success....I slept all night and even had a little massage before getting up this morning...........doesn't cure the shoulder pain...but it sure made things better.....!!!

Thinking of all those going thru tough times right now....take care....

It sounds like a good investment for you.  Good luck with that shoulder surgery when the time comes.

Would Fawn act the way she does if she had an ear infection, or a bad case of ear mites?  That would make me miserable for sure.  And I agree Graham's @grapau27food pics look delicious.  Hope they're having a great time!

Stay Safe!

So sorry to hear of DSIL's new Covid diagnosis.  Hopefully Sue won't come down with it too.  And that's a lovely photo she took.  Thanks for sharing.

Joy, glad you're feeling better this morning.  It didn't sound like much fun!  And how nice you had friends come by while gone to keep Allen company and they brought food for you two.  Sorry about your weather there.  DS is not happy this morning because they told him they wouldn't be cancelling any practices, but they did already this morning.  If they cancel all week it will be a wasted trip.  Fingers crossed for the guys and the folks in the area struggling with the weather.

@Nodakboiler Welcome to the Daily!

@ottahand7 Sorry to hear your Canaletto dinner wasn't satisfactory.

@kochleffel Early Bon Voyage!

@aliaschief You'll get there!

Vanessa, when you're falling asleep at 2 a.m., I'm waking up and staying mostly awake for the remainder of the night.  What is wrong with us?  🤷‍♀️  Hope you don't have to drive in or shovel the snow, and it melts quickly.

Charlene

Charlene, I agree the 14 day Alaska cruise is a great one.  That's when we visited Kodiak, too.  As for company, I bet you get lots of people who want to visit Florida during the winter and spring break.  Hope you have enough guest rooms.

Susan

Sorry to hear about the puppy dumping.  Very sad especially in cold weather.  People can be so mean!  My wonderful DH is my accountant (Lol) and got everything put together and sent in to Federal and State last week.  I don't know what I'd do without him.

Thanks for all the photos posted today.  They're all great!  And I'd also like to welcome @Nodakboiler to the Daily.  It's always nice to see who is lurking out there afraid to pop in.  We're pretty harmless!😇

I am sitting here wondering why some of us wake at two am and others don’t start sleeping until then , Sandi and I are in the former category and Vanessa is in the latter. It makes for a long day either way.

I got word last night that DS and family have rented a house on the Cape again and the lucky grandparents are invited. I am excited to have a vacation to plan and contacted the dog sitter for the July timeframe.
The pictures of Kodiak are so interesting. Thanks to all who post them.

The recipes look lovely as well.

@Seasick Sailor, Joy, the dental surgery sounded painful just reading it. I hope you were able to take something for the pain. The neighbors are wonderful to bring food as well as keep Allen company. I hope you feel better today.

@rafinmd, Roy, hopefully the doctor has been able to help with the problem. I am sorry you are having the coughing fits. It takes a while for pneumonia to begin to clear.
@Rowsby, I am glad you have the recliner to escape to. So many of my patients with shoulder problems could only sleep in the recliner. I hope you don’t have to wait too long to have the surgery.

From Roy

At least 1 more day, and I am now an official inpatient.

Had an echocardiogram this morning and they’re waiting on results of that.  Was given a stool softener so I hope that will help.

There is no “tentative thank you” emoji so… um… thanks?  🤷‍♀️

Seriously, though, Roy… I am glad you are doing well and you are right where you need to be.  We are all rooting for you.
