No, I do not believe Celebrity is using them currently but if Carnival is going to the trouble to start using them, I expect others may start as well if they start seeing issues.  And no, even that isn't perfect but when fines are attached it does some to discourage it.

Never?  I have at quite a few ports.  Mexico is the most common I have seen but they aren't the only one where I have seen dogs.

We have been when in a Mexican port. Supposedly for food but who knows. And they do have some ships stopping in Jamaca.

Well marijuana is pretty noticeable.  How are they gonna get the smell out of the rooms?

Weed comes in vape form as well, and also is hardly noticeable, like nicotine vapes.

Well, not feeling very heard and actually feeling dismissed with “there has been minimal to no impact to our guests”. Honestly, If I wanted to sit with vaping I could head to one of the many dirty windowed vape shops we have here in town. The full text here:

Dear Mrs. Hunt:

Thank you for taking the time to contact the Executive Offices at Celebrity Cruises.

This test is currently in place on the Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse, and at this time there has been minimal to no impact to our guests experience onboard.  Vaping will only be allowed in certain areas of the casino for casino guests, during operating hours only. Cigarettes, pipes and cigars will still be prohibited in the casino.

Mrs. Hunt, we truly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding our recent change.

Sincerely,

Executive Office
Celebrity Cruises
ExecutiveOffice@celebrity.com

Celebrity has been just fine with out smoking or vaping in their casinos all along and they still are busy and making money.   The addiction of some is not necessarily (former smoker myself) should not be afflicted onto the mass population of a ship.  There is enough out door deck space to fuel your needs.   Gamblers will gamble whether they can smoke or not.

LOL.  And Celebrity does not have ships that go to Jamaica 🙂🙂

I have never been sniffed by a dog at a cruise port.

It’s been awhile, but we boarded the Reflection in Florida in Dec 2015 and had an extended ship delay due to a dog search that resulted in a crew member arrest for drug possession.

In 2013 Solstice did it's only cruise that had a  changeover in Ensenada. We were B2B and watched from our balcony as all the new passengers bags were laid out on the pier where every bag was checked by a sniffer dog. When the Authorities realised we were watching we were "politely requested " to get off our balcony ( by politely I mean lots of shouting and waving of guns.)

Disembarking passengers had earlier left the ship in  "groups" with each group being met at the end of the gang way from where they were escorted by armed guards to their alloted buses. The whole of the pier area was cordoned off with 2 sand bagged machine gun posts covering the area from the bottom of the gangway to the transfer buses.

Currently vaping is only allowed on two ships (Eclipse and Equinox) as a 8 week test.. Not fleetwide. My post was nothing but a comment saying even if Celebrity goes forward fleetwide as a new policy allowing vaping in the casino, we'll continue to cruise with Celebrity.

Read all of the threads concerning the test of vaping in the casino.  All of them, commented on all of them. I have used and provide that Email address plus another. No lecture needed by you. Way ahead of ya.

Sorry my response was not intended to be directed at you personally - just in general to remind everyone posting to send their comments for or against directly to X.

Tell that to the woke brigade in the UK, the needs of the few far outweigh those of the majority and you dare challenge that and you are a bigot. Celebrity is following what society is and the silent majority has to have its voice heard, sadly it dare not.

I’m starting to voice it. I’m at the age where I’m retired so no longer care about keeping my job by voicing for the silent majority.

But trying to be respectful at the same time to the few. Easier said than done when they are generally not respectful to me.

This is a test program on a couple of ships.  As many people as possible should email the Celebrity Executive Office and object (if they do).  But the guest comments cards post-cruise are very important to state these objections.  Perhaps even more so.

Hmmm.  I guess I tend to stay away from the ports where they treat the cruisers like drug runners...

I will put Ensenada on the why would I cruise here list...

I would still prefer no vaping except at approved locations.  Inside or outside.  Argument seems to be it will just blow away.  I don’t see why I have to breathe it in the process.  I’m thinking of those huge clouds of smoke that some vapers are so proud of making.

Baltimore cruise port always had a beagle sniffing people.  We called him sniffy and he was adorable.  However I only saw him working when we disembarked.   I did see him sit in front of an older women’s suitcase.  When they opened it it was full of oranges!

Better put Baltimore on that list.  I also saw a sniffy dog in Miami cruise port.

Not surprising in a city of 18M.

Considering cruises are a microcosm of society, I'm not too worried about it.

3.4 % of US population vapes. 30% of US population has cruised.

In theory about 1% of passengers vape. No guarantee they will all be in the casino, at same time.

Yes, yes, the true math lies in the demographics of who vapes...the largest vaping age group by far is under the age of 44...and the largest age of cruisers is 40+.

The numbers support my lack of worry.

(11% of world population vapes, but much lower % of world population has ever cruised--much tougher to do the math there)

While all that is true, it disregards that you don't need 100% of the people around you to be doing something for it to be unpleasant or annoying, or worse. In fact, it is sometimes that something is exceptional/atypical that makes it more disturbing or unpleasant.

To give just one example of many cases where this is true, if only one person is crunching chips/making noise in the theatre, does the fact it is less than 1% of the audience mean that it has an insignificant effect on you?

Exactly the response I got.

The reply I sent back...

Thank you for your response.
However, based on first hand reports from people on board - including pictures of the signs - there is nothing stating that those vaping in the casino must be gambling. In fact, the first hand report from the Equinox is that high top tables have been added to the edge of the casino and they have been filled with people vaping and not gambling.

I'm curious what is being done to ensure that the vapers are not using THC or worse in their devices. Even without that danger, there are second-hand from breathing and even third-hand from touching where the residue has landed effects. Allowing it is certainly not prioritizing the health of your cruisers.

I am a non smoker so I stay the hell away from any of them. I dont even take a shortcut thru the casino to get other places on the ship.

I'm a non-smoker/non vaper.  I am NOT oblivious to vaping.  It does bother me.  There are some type of chemicals and also some scents in there that do bother me.  And no, I don't have a stick up my a$$.  I have a right not to breath it - I also think if someone choose to, they have the right.  I prefer they go to a designated area and do so.

You’re my new favorite person on Cruise Critic.  Can you let me know whenever you post?

There's no notifications for a particular poster like you can set for a particular thread or board that I know of, but you can right click on her screen name and see her posts that are helpfully listed in reverse chronological order.

As for dog sniffing stories, I have a couple.  I know I've been sniffed by dogs whenever I've been to Cozumel; I can't recall for the other Mexican stops.  I've always been told they were looking for produce, but I wouldn't care if they were looking for drugs, because that's not the way I roll.

A few months ago, I was caught in an experiment at Miami's airport.  Just before security, we were asked to walk slowly and evenly 2-by-2 a short distance with a doggie between us (or was it on the side?).  It seemed weird, but I played along because I don't have anything to hide.  Perhaps this is coming to an airport near you sometime soon?

We experienced this same routine at Dulles in May. Same, just before escalators to security.

Dogs are trained to sniff out all sorts of things.  Drugs, produce, accelerants, etc.

I have seen the ones in Cozumel.  I think they do drugs and produce.  The island needs to keep fungus from off-island produce away.  There is a disease going through the Caribbean that damages a couple of variety of trees.

On other ships that allow smoking in their casinos, I do as well. Celebrity HAS been the exception in not allowing it.
