Good morning from central Texas.  If summer wasn't here earlier, it is definitely here now.  At 7am it is already 82F and feels like 88F.  Last night at 10:30 it was still 91F.   Fortunately, there is a breeze for my walk in a few minutes.  Our predicted high is 99F and then triple digits from then on until ???  Once I finish my walk, it will be a quick run to the store and then more book work in side until we head to Waco this afternoon for a doctor appointment for DH.  It's just a follow up appointment to go over some blood tests, and we don't expect any surprises.

Cheer up the lonely and national blueberry muffins are good days to celebrate.  However, I will not celebrate Bowler's day.  I do not condone censoring or rewriting published works.  The author's works should stay as they intended, and if someone does not approve, they should not read them, but those who like the works enjoy them.  Now, I'll get off my soapbox.

The Robert Fulghum quote is interesting.

We'll pass on the meal.  DH likes cucumbers, but I don't, and he usually gets any I find in my salads.  We'll also pass on the drink and the wine.

We have been to Cabo San Lucas many times, so you know I've have a bunch of pictures to share.  Our first visit there was in 1995 when it was a sleepy fishing village, and I still miss the "old" Cabo, but won't not go there when it's on an itinerary.

Today's day in history was the beginning of the Church of England which lead to the Anglican Communion around the world, and the Episcopal Church in the US.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope the "cupping" helps with the scar.  That is good news about Ivan's blood work.  I hope he continues to improve, and that the injections when he gets them will help keep him pain free.

@Denise T  Denise, yeah on booking the cruise.

@cruising sister  Lorraine, I hope Murphy had a good night after the ECMO was reduced by 50%, and that she continues to improve.

@Heartgrove  Jack, we have always enjoyed our days on Zaandam and Volendam, and our Sea of Cortez cruise.  You might remind Sue that the Sea of Cortez cruise is only 10 days, which is not too long to be on an R class ship.

@grapau27  Graham, thank you for the explanation of Bowlder Day.  I forgotten what it was.  Please wish Father David a very HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY from us.

We have been to Cabo San Lucas many times, but most were before digital cameras and before Cabo changed from a sleepy, little fishing village that had cruise ships stop occasionally.  The first time we were there was 1995, and difference in the town between then and our last time is unbelievable.  The big tender pier was not there, nor were most of the shops surrounding the harbor.

We were there was in 2016 on the Ruby Princess.  These are the only digital pictures I have.  We stopped there in 2014 on the Veendam, but evidently, I did not take any pictures.

Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites!

@grapau27Please wish Father David a Happy Birthday from me, and let him know that I REALLY loved this past Sundays message.  I am a continuous battle of the internal fight of good and bad.  I think that we created good, by the good teaching and love we receive as babies, and if we dont get that, then bad has an easy path.

@Denise TOne thing that I have done over the last year is roast veggies, carrots (sorry @dfish) baby bok choy, cabbage, asparagus, and delicata squash.  I do have a great farmers market near me, and when DH and I go in, we try to get a veggie we have never tried, and a fruit we have never tried. It makes for a more interesting cooking experience.  I have found out that turning on the oven when its 90 plus outside, doesn't make me very happy.

I'm glad to read that baby Murphy is doing better, and I hope you all have a nice day.  I start my day with physical therapy this morning.  So off to get breakfast, therapy, walk the dog, cook lunch and then start my one on one training via the zoom world, and then on the phones.  Then, I have to figure out what dinner will be.  I am tired of throwing out food, so I am not shopping for a week at a time, but a few days at a time and will eat what we have.

I also posted these pictures from 2016 about our tour to Todo Santos.  It's a nice little town and easy to reach from Cabo.

In 2016 on the Ruby Princess, we actually stopped twice in Cabo since we were doing b2b2bs.  The first time, we were in port from 7am to 2pm, and we took a tour to Todo Santos.  We'd always wanted to see the town, and even started to drive there once when we rented a car in Cabo.  Back then the road was a narrow, two lane highway, so we made it about halfway before turning back because we did not want to miss the ship.

By 2016, the road was a very new, very nice four lane highway, so it did not take as long to get to Todo Santos.  The highway runs from Cabo to La Paz where it connects with Highway 1 back to the US.  They run tours from Cabo and La Paz to Todo Santos.  I thought I'd add some pictures of Todo Santos, a very clean town, at least the part we saw.  It is one I'd recommend visiting if you have a chance.

IIFC, this is their museum, but I don't have pictures inside.

Sue is the more pragmatic one of us and realizes that smaller ships have a higher fare. Me, I just enjoy being at sea and how smaller ships have more movement. I guess that I was lucky to choose the Veendam as our first HAL ship. She did enjoy that cruise.

Good Morning to All!

I just might need to make some blueberry muffins (so delicious) and visit someone who is lonely.  I will pass on Bowdler and the quote is funny.  I like cucumber salad but not necessarily a creamy one.  The drink and wine sound interesting.  Went to Cabo twice - last November and then again over New Year's.

Busy day today.  The gym and my final day in the research study.  Still going to be a scorcher but no rain seen yet.

Thoughts for those on the care list and cheers for those celebrating.

Have a great day everyone!

One last post before I get ready for my walk and errand.  These are the pictures from our Koningsdam cruises in 2021 and 2022.

I talked with one local about the change from the small fishing village we first saw in 1995 to the busy resort village with all the shops and restaurants.  He said he missed the old, small fishing village..  That one had a lot of charm.

Even though others have posted pictures of Los Arcos and Lovers Beach, I couldn't resist adding mine.  On our first visit to Cabo in 1995, we took a small boat out to circle Los Arcos.  It was fairly rough on the bay side and even rougher on the Pacific side.  DH wanted to walk on Lovers Beach.  I wisely decided to say on the boat.  DH had a hard time getting back in the boat, and I'm not sure I would have made in back in.

On November 16, 2021, I met @dobiemom on shore for a drink.  We had a good time getting to know each other better.  Because of the Daily, we already felt like we knew each other.

In March 2022, there were a lot of pelicans in the harbor.  There was also this big fella, who I think is a sealion.  He would only move when they were launching the wave runners, then would swim right back to the ramp.

Good morning, everyone!

I slept in a bit this morning as I had a hard time getting to sleep last night.  I am still draining from my sinuses and that kept me coughing.  Then, my back started to join the party and I had pains all down my legs.  Grrrr.  I hate nights like that, but fortunately, they are few and far between.

The latest update on our cruise is that we are not going to Red Bay.   A notice came out from HAL today.

Today we are meeting a friend from the old neighborhood where we grew up.  We're having lunch and exploring downtown.  They have done a lot with the downtown area.  Main Street is closed off during the summer and becomes a playground for old and young.

@cruising sister Thank you for the good report on baby Murphy.  Continued forward progress is the best we can hope for.

@kazu Sounds like good news for Ivan and for you.

Happy Birthday to Fr. David.

Today's dish is one that we had often when I was growing up.  Nanny Huener used to make it when I was very little and then I remember my grandmother making it and my mom made it often during the summer.  She didn't include the dill, just cucumbers, sour cream, a touch of vinegar, salt, and pepper.  She used to use the seedless cucumbers and would soak them in salt water for a while.  Here's our first recipe:  https://feelgoodfoodie.net/recipe/creamy-cucumber-salad/

creamycucumbersalad1.thumb.jpg.08842ab0314ecaeaa5e694c623e85bb7.jpg

This one uses some mayonnaise in the dressing.   Mom never used that.  And she never put sugar in it.  https://www.spendwithpennies.com/creamy-cucumber-salad/

creamycucumbersalad2.thumb.jpg.34afb9db5c10f1b3ad3bdc879f375e39.jpg

This one is similar to the two above, just slight variations in the amounts of things.   https://numstheword.com/creamy-cucumber-salad/

creamycucumbersalad3.png.5b206e471a9351c9acde905da4f82b1b.png

Cucumbers are so refreshing on a hot day.  You can make an infused water with cucumber, mint, and lime.  Crush some mint leaves and put in the pitcher.  Cut up one lime and put it in the pitcher and cucumber slices from about half the cucumber.  Fill with water and chill.  That really quenches the thirst.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

I'm wary of Cheer Up the Lonely Day, because the typical effort to cheer people up is just to exhort them "Cheer up!" It seems to me that relieving the loneliness is what's needed. Would have been happy to have a blueberry muffin this morning, but I think that Bowdler's Day could be abolished.

What I learned in kindergarten: (1) I was very clumsy and uncoordinated (still am); (2) some kids liked to eat paste.

I would like the cucumber salad but I'd like Roy's alternative better. No on the cocktail, yes on the champagne. Sheldrake Point 2021 Riesling Bubbles would be an interesting alternative from the Finger Lakes. My only acquaintance with Cabo San Lucas is from episodes of The Love Boat that called there.

Yesterday I booked flights for Utah next spring, using the last e-credits from cancelled travel, and ordered tickets for our community orchestra, which for a change is going to play a few works that I would want to hear. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night but had to get up this morning to take out the trash.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  We often do the first two things - pick up and drop off muffins to a lovely older couple who live up the street from us.  Their children live thousands of miles away and don't visit often, so we keep an eye on them and bring them treats and snacks which they always appreciate.  I think I'll take a pass on Bowdler's Day - not a fan of censorship just because someone doesn't approve of something.

I'd like to try the drink of the day, but hadn't heard of cucumber watermelon vodka.  Not sure about the combo, but then I'd never heard of feta and watermelon before having it in a salad, so I'm sure it's worth a try.  We haven't been to Cabo San Lucas, but friends of ours used to holiday there in the winter quite regularly, renting a condo for a month or two each time.  They stopped going there once our friend began experiencing menopause, as she was just too uncomfortable - said with the external heat and internal heat, she felt like her whole body was going to burst into flames.

We've got cloudy skies and according to the forecast, will likely not be seeing the sun today.  Thankfully the smoke has cleared with the breezes we've had, so it'll be just a cooler cloudy day before we get back to our normal temperatures with sunshine tomorrow.  We've often been asked why we don't take holidays in the summer and our response is that we have such nice summers, we hate to miss any of it, as they're always so short.  Better to leave the "frozen tundra" when it's frozen.

@grapau27please wish Father David a very Happy Birthday from his Canadian friends.

@cruising sisterI hope baby Murphy had a comfortable night and gets to go home soon.

@kazu I'm happy to hear you've almost completely graduated from your PT.  Hopefully the cupping will help to loosen things up and you'll be right as rain (no, wait, no rain for you!) in no time.  Also glad to hear that Ivan's blood work came back with good results - I hope the injections and meds will help beat the arthritic pain down.

@marshhawkI hear you about starting the oven in the heat - if you have a toaster oven, put it out on your deck where you can cook/roast/bake to your heart's content.  When there's only two of you (like us), you don't have to cook in big batches, so it really helps.  I also have my slow cooker out there as well - it keeps my countertops a little less cluttered.

I like today's wine selection, as I'm a fan of champagne or prosecco, and it's not super expensive, so let me get my glass!  I haven't made cucumber salad for a long time, but when we go out for groceries, I'll pick up a couple of long English cucumbers and make some for tonight.  I didn't use all the chicken from yesterday for the stir fry, so for dinner we'll be having panko crusted chicken fingers made in the air fryer and the creamy cucumber salad on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially the people of Ukraine who face a daily struggle that none of us can really imagine.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Thank you to all who post on the F & D.

I’d like to suggest a way to celebrate Bowdler’s Day.IMG_7646.png.4eecab30b2d4a4807fdfab2518367af5.png

Did you know that several of Dahl’s popular children’s books such as Charlie & the Chocolate Factory have recently been bowdlerized?  “…language relating to gender, race, weight, mental health and violence had been cut or rewritten. This included removing words such as “fat” and “ugly,” as well as descriptions using the colors black and white.”

@kazu Cupping was recommended for my DH by his acupuncturist.  It worked for him, I hope it works for you.
@ottahand7Love all your flower pictures, particularly the Monarch caterpillars.  I have plenty of milkweed growing in my wildflower garden for them too.

@dfish  My grandmother taught me to make cucumber salad too.  Place cucumbers in jar.  Mix up pickling brine, twice as much sugar as vinegar.  Add to jar.  Sometimes I add onions or fresh dill.  Great easy salad for a summer picnic.

Positive thoughts to those who need them.  Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.

🙏 Great to hear baby Murphy is improving!
🎂 Happy Birthday to Fr David!  I enjoy his messages.  Last Sunday’s on Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde was very clever and useful.
@kazu path forward for Ivan and you! 👍

@Denise T things are looking up!  A cruise booked, yay!  And a path forward on keeping your BGL down. Excellent!

Robert Fulcrum’s book by the title of the quote is interesting. Unfortunately what I learned in kindergarten was that hurled were not allowed to play in the blocks corner!  I learned that life was going to be an uphill battle. Maybe kindergarten gave me the spark to work harder for what I wanted. I’ve been rewarded!

Best outcomes wished for those with doctor appts today. We’re going to meet with the financial advisor, working on simplifying our accounts so a family member could more easily help me/us/DH when the time comes. 🤞

MaryKay, following your downsizing and estate sale!  We did 90% downsizing when we moved to MD from our large NM home of decades. Now we’re are looking at relocating closer to the granddaughter who’ll watch over us but to a Continuing Care Retirement Community Independent living. We found one we like but getting that last 10% sorted and dispersed will be a bear! I think it’ll take us 5 times as long as the big move!

Thank you Vanessa for keeping DH on the rotation. We are 3 weeks from his eye surgery, trying to stay away from crowds and avoid COVID and a possible schedule bust. It was 4 months for this appointment. His pressures taken twice daily have been mostly good to a little high but acceptable. The return of the severe itching a couple of weeks ago has abated and he’s back down to one Benadryl at night. 👍. Thanks to you all for your caring support.

We have a lot of family in the Hudson Valley and southern Vermont. Lots of calls yesterday!  So far all have come through the flooding. I haven’t heard from my sister in the Bennington VT area yet. Last week her culverts and stream near her house were running higher than ever. 🤞 She’s in a cabin up a hillside so I’m hopeful they’re ok.

Blessings to all on our Care list and all in need of healing, comfort or hope.

Cheers for all those celebrating!  Life is good!  🌈

Smooth travels to all away. Thinking of our cruisers!

Check back later, have to get ready and I’m slow mornings.

At least, the Giggling Marlin is still there, while the Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, and Carlos and Charlies are all gone.  I still miss Carlos and Charlies.

Thanks for the Fleet Update and General Info from all the contributors!

Love Cabo and especially when I was hung upside down by my feet at this bar. Looked like I was catch of the day! 🤥

As far a reference to Shakespeare, I was in this Shakespeare play when I was 13. I was playing the part of Romeo and my future Misses was Juliet. When we got to the classic lines things changed. “ O’RedneckBob, O’RedneckBob where art thou,” for which I replied, “Here I is”.

Aliaschief when you place a fork in the road the forks must be placed upward!

Good morning. Sunny and about 60 here right now. No rain in the immediate forecast but it is sneaking in an forecast appearance in a little over a week.... maybe. I have been watering some of the shrubs who are beginning to look unhappy.

Have been to Cabo a couple of times.... and I love cucumber salad during the summer. Glad to hear that baby Murphy is improving. And good news on Ivan too. Here everyone seems to be doing ok except that we had another fall among our "not so young" group. A friend that I don't see too often fell in her kitchen and was evidently down for a few days!!! before the postal delivery noticed her mail was piling up and checked on her. Nothing broken thankfully.  I am becoming a strong advocate for those of us living alone to wear some sort of alert device. They may be annoying at times... but when you need them, you need them. Of course that means you have to keep them charged.

Need to see about the lab work before my upcoming routine doctor's appointment. And I promised the Bandit a longer walk this morning. His was cut short due to a couple of loose and very large dogs. So off I go.

Take care all.

Susan

Ugh. Just another couple minutes to scan posts…. I see auto corrected errors in my post earlier. Robert Fulghum’s name wrong. And in kindergarten it was GIRLS who were not allowed in the blocks corner. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Lovin the Cabo pictures!  First time there DH went parasailing 🪂.   Seems 100 years ago!  Glad we did things while we could. We were there several times again but no more parasailing….  more the usual which is wonderful enough.

Off into the heat for appointments.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I'll try to cheer up anyone lonely (I've been there). I like blueberry muffins. Had never heard of Bowlder before today. The quote is ok as said in jest. I like German recipes for cucumber salad, some of which aren't creamy. I like the wine. Ah, Henry VIII. My last cruise before the pause had the British musical comedy SIX in production. I have been to Cabo San Lucas on my Panama Canal cruise from LA.

It's going to be hot (86F) and sunny today. Ugh, my eyes feel like they want to flare, so I'm using extra drops and will keep dark glasses on. I'm about to head out to physical therapy in a little bit.

@grapau27 The rabbits are cute, as long as they don't eat anything you're growing in the garden. Please add my Birthday wishes for Fr. David.

@StLouisCruisers Nice photos of Cabo.

@kazu I hope the "cupping" works to loosen that scar tissue. I'm glad Ivan's blood work looked ok. I can empathize with the arthritis. I hope the injections do the trick and he can get off the meds.

@Denise T Congrats on the cruise booking.

@ottahand7 Lovely flowers.

@cruising sister Great news about baby Murphy! Continued prayers for her.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Thanks for the Cabo photos.

@GTVCRUISER Great photos.

@dfish Sorry you had a bad night. Thanks for the recipes.

@0106 I agree that recent attempts to ban and censor books is comtemptible.

@RMLincoln I'm glad DH's reaction to the drops has abated. I'm glad your family is ok; the flooding in Hudson Valley and Vermont is terrible.

@durangoscots Oh my on your friend being down for a couple of days after a fall. An alert device would have been a savior. Or I have echo dots on all floors and could yell for Alexa to call a contact. Also my Apple watch lets me call for help.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those with something to Celebrate.

Only a couple of pics since mine are similar to others posted.
