cheetosrevil Posted November 4, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2023 Wondering if anyone knows if cabin stewards are aware of how cabins are acquired? Meaning, purchased, comped, upgraded thru the bidding process, etc. If someone knows, has it affected service?
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted November 4, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2023 I think this is very low on his/her list of concerns. Service is always above and beyond (within reason).

tonit964 Posted November 4, 2023 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2023 My guess would be no, they don’t how the cabin is booked. I don’t think you could get a definitive answer on this either but I could be wrong.
Rare 1025cruise Posted November 4, 2023 #5 Share Posted November 4, 2023 I can't imagine why a cabin steward would care how you obtained the cabin.
skynight Posted November 4, 2023 #6 Share Posted November 4, 2023 I don't see how the cabin steward would know anything about the financial booking transaction. This information is maintained at headquarters. It's possible the hotel manager has access to this information if it is something unusual, example you won a free cruise. The steward is aware of your loyalty status, if you are on b2b voyages, things like that. In all cases cabin steward service would remain exceptional. Potstech Posted November 4, 2023 #8 Share Posted November 4, 2023 No ad they would have no need for that information to do their job.
Rare Lady Arwen Posted November 4, 2023 #9 Share Posted November 4, 2023 Curious as to why you’ve asked this question. What difference would it make?

Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted November 4, 2023 #11 Share Posted November 4, 2023 (edited) @cheetosrevil I'm more curious as to how the *topic* would even come to mind...did something "happen" that you're not sharing? memoak Posted November 4, 2023 #12 Share Posted November 4, 2023 The casino and room service will know if it is a casino comp for a casino VIP but not the steward At least that is what I have gleaned from my experience
DrivesLikeMario Posted November 4, 2023 #13 Share Posted November 4, 2023 He'll know (and/or his supervisor) whether you've pre-paid your gratuities or not but that's it as far as I know.

The steward doesn't know that, you use that as a scare tactic to intimidate people. I have reduced my gratuities on every cruise for the past 6-7 years and my service has always been exceptional. Guest services assures me they don't disseminate this information, it goes straight to corporate. Betatlake Posted November 4, 2023 #18 Share Posted November 4, 2023 Our room steward actually left his clipboard with cabin assignments in our room; on embarkation day, and prepaid gratuities were listed as stated above. 3

How long ago was this? Based on a lot of what I have read on here things may have changed over the past two years. (Many people have said that stewards can keep your cash tips regardless of whether or not you left on crew appreciations and that it is something new over the last year or two). If what people have said is true then the stewards would no longer need to know about prepaid gratuities. I am assuming you have never worked in a service industry where people get minimum wage based on an assumption of gratuities Edited November 4, 2023 by memoak 8

It used to be we all gave the cash to our servers and it wasn't tiered amounts. Why are you comparing working in the USA service industry to other countries where crew make a fortune compared to what they would earn at home.
