ger_77 Posted September 14, 2018 #31 Share Posted September 14, 2018 I quickly read the first line of the sticky (incorrectly, of course) and thought - oh great, the Rolling Stones - a group I've never liked. Then I looked more closely and realized it was Rolling Stone Magazine that they were pairing with; that's a whole different story. I love rock and roll, and will look forward to visiting the venue when it hits the other classes of ships. Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)
Crusinsusan2 Posted September 14, 2018 #32 Share Posted September 14, 2018 LOL Krooz, Yes that's exactly what I meant! Back in the old day's Guns & Roses at least for those of us on the west coast that loved the 80's heavy rock scene we referred to them only as "Guns".
Cruising-along Posted September 14, 2018 #33 Share Posted September 14, 2018 Awesome news! If they're have as good as the BB Kings, it'll be outstanding! I agree! Really looking forward to this! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
canadianbear Posted September 14, 2018 #34 Share Posted September 14, 2018 I also saw that in my email today. Looking forward to checking it out in January on the K.

stickey_mouse Posted September 14, 2018 #36 Share Posted September 14, 2018 Won't this venue compete with BB Kings and Billboard Onboard, give their overlap in music?
Rare VMax1700 Posted September 14, 2018 Author #37 Share Posted September 14, 2018 No more YMCA & disco party. Enough of that. Time to bring back 60's Woodstock theme night. Sounds fun! The flower arrangements will all be 'borrowed' for hair effects and we can pretend that the towelling robes are actually kaftans. ;p

jbecker6469 Posted September 14, 2018 #40 Share Posted September 14, 2018 Awesome! Can’t wait to report on it when we set sail 2018-12-10 right after K’dam’s drydock refurbishment. [emoji1591][emoji41][emoji1591] Please do post a report as soon as you can after returning. We will be on the Jan 4th sailing and are excited about this new venue. Thanks. sprockie Posted September 14, 2018 #41 Share Posted September 14, 2018 Finally we may be getting away from the Lester Lanin and his Orchestra and Guy Lombardo era. Good eras but it’s Boomer Time. We grew up on Rock and Roll. I have seen hints on board that HAL is moving away from the show tune/big band era and is moving more toward catering to the baby boomers. Though I am not a boomer (far too young for that - I'm 50), I am tickled to see and hear more classic rock played throughout the ship and in entertainment venues. Let's face it, the older crowd are becoming lesser in numbers and the middle aged cruiser is now dominating the demographic. ;)
Boatdrill Posted September 14, 2018 #42 Share Posted September 14, 2018 HAL is finally listening to the new huge segment of their demographic... Boomers! ;):D Yep, some boomers will really like this. Others not so much (sorry). The 50 somethings I know (who are Whitesnake, Rolling Stone and Coldplay fans) prefer the after dinner classical music concerts in the Explorer's Lounge, and then it's to the casino. The Rolling Stone magazine venue won't interest them in the slightest. Nor me, and I'm older than they are. Thankfully there's something for everyone ! :) Good Luck HAL. stickey_mouse Posted September 14, 2018 #43 Share Posted September 14, 2018 I'm still a little confused as to why they are keeping BB Kings with this new concept. Don't get me wrong, I like BB Kings a lot, it just seems a little redundant.

rkacruiser Posted September 14, 2018 #46 Share Posted September 14, 2018 I approve of the concept, for whatever that approval is worth. I like some Rock n' Roll music. I wonder: would the "Golden Oldies" from the disco era qualify for this new venue? Songs like Gloria Gaynor's I'll Survive"? Or maybe Rollin' on the River, although that might even be pre-disco. (A music historian, I surely am not!)
jabcruiser Posted September 14, 2018 #47 Share Posted September 14, 2018 Very much looking forward to this new rock and roll venue. Love, love, love BB King Blues Club(not too loud for me at all) and this will be right up our alley also as we are baby boomers. We will be on Koningsdam 12/10/18 cruise which is first one after dry dock. Hope they get the new venue set up during dry dock and that it is open during our cruise. Maybe Copper10-8 has heard something about the timing??? Jane
Rare POA1 Posted September 14, 2018 #48 Share Posted September 14, 2018 The video says "four decades of rock and roll." Technically rock started in the 1940's, but didn't really pick up steam until the 50's. Starting with the 50's, you have close to 7 decades of rock and roll. Which three are they leaving out? sevenseasnomad Posted September 14, 2018 #49 Share Posted September 14, 2018 Doubtful, but we can find someone who can move like Jagger ;p Yeah! My 31-year-old son, who loves BB King and is super excited about this new venue, can move on the dance floor. Unfortunately, I only get to dance a couple of times with him before the girls swarm, most of them impressed with the fact that he's dancing with his mom. (My husband is deceased, so I no longer have an assured dance partner.) What these young ladies don't realize, though, is I love to dance, but once they start asking him to dance, he's no longer my partner! I'm now dancing with the other single ladies.
