Never leave ship

Recommended Posts

We often cruise just to be away on the ship and not for the ports and those times we will not leave the ship. Sea days are often crowded on the ship and we enjoy the quieter times on board when we are in port.

I have stayed onboard on many of my Caribbean cruises.

I also did it on one-half of my most recent back to back Alaska cruise, but that was also because it rained all week.

As others have said--it is great to have the entire ship without very many doing the same things.

I don’t get this? Why not just stay at an all inclusive thing? To me the reason you go on a cruise is to visit multiple different places in one trip but if you don’t actually get off the ship what’s the point? I have a friend that recently went on a cruise and hated it because they didn’t do any excursions and stayed on the ship and she was so bored she just wanted to leave...

We've done quite a few cruises (7+ days) where we never left the ship. The ship is very relaxing and if we've seen the ports before we don't have a need to see them again.

Why not an all-inclusive? Well, our reasons are mainly that we aren't beach/water activity people and we're not heavy drinkers. I think we'd be bored in that type of atmosphere. We like the activities and entertainment on board ships - also the casino.

My personal opinion is "to each his own" - It's not my place to decide for someone else that they should be doing a particular activity just as I don't expect anyone else to be deciding what I'm to do. That's the beauty of cruising!! Some people love the sun & getting a tan - some of us don't. I like to gamble & there's people who never set foot in the casino. I could go on, but I think most people will get the idea.

Some enjoy being at sea, the food, the service, the relaxation, etc. Each to their own.

Been to the Caribbean too many times. Last 8 cruises, all on an Oasis Class ship, never got off the ship at any port.

We only sail 7 night cruises. Just sail to enjoy our room and the ship.

This is what we want to do. Haven’t spent a whole cruise on board but would love the less crowded port days.

Always get off even I've been to a port multiple times, enjoy the walking around and doing my own thing or finding something different. Have not been and never will be a beach day guy so won't be a sustained land vacation in my future.

Never done it for an entire cruise, but have skipped a couple ports.

One time, staying on board presented me a unique opportunity. Royal Caribbean was shooting a commercial on board while we were docked in Nassau and I got to be an extra!

We use cruises to explore places we may want to take longer, noncruise vacations in the future. Staying on the ship would defeat the purpose. Sometimes we get off in ports we have seen before just to get free Wifi.

You know what? We always said that too. And after multiple visits to the same ports in Mexico and the Caribbean, we have returned only once for a land vacation.

We spent 5 nights in Cabo San Lucas at an All Inclusive and discussed all of the things that we would do overnight and in town, since we had only been there previously on port stops.

And we didn't do anything. We never did go in to town and experience the night life.

We left the resort twice and took the $1 bus to Walmart each way/per person and stocked up on snacks and our favorite beverages. We came back and enjoyed the pool, bars, relaxing, and beach.

So I think that we are just slugs. I really like to read and relax on vacation. There are quite a few Caribbean ports that we just stay onboard for. :D

The only port we have stayed on the ship was in Port Said, where we felt safer. We had already visited Cairo and didn't wish to repeat the experience.

I can|t think of a time when I did not get off at all for an entire cruise///though we occasionallz skip a port and frequently only get off and walk around casually for an hour or so and then return to the nearly empty ship for most of the day.

DS19 has done the not leave at all thing quite a bit---especially in highschool he had so much going on that when vacation rolled around he just wanted to relax (and play every dang trivia the cruse staff put on lol). He always had a great time with that---even on the small ships. he once did B2B on Legend, 14 days, and never waked off at all for those two weeks and said it was a perfect trip.

Like others, all inclusives are not as good for me due to higher cost, and fewer good activities to do if you are not a beach/sun person or a drinker (I am neither). And then there is always the possibility that others in the travel party want to get off ship and see more. Plus, the views from the ship have their own appeal---rather than an all inclusive where my views would not change all week.

This is me. We're going to the Dominican republic in October. We're writing down all the things we want to do but I'm afraid I'll just sit and do nothing for the week. We're newly weds so it will be interesting to see what my husband does. He has to be busy. He hasn't learned how to relax yet. LOL

Just curious how many cruisers go on say a 7 night or longer cruise and just stayed on the ship the entire cruise. Either because you have been to the ports or just cruise for the ship and not for the stops. Thinking about this in the future.

We hardly ever leave the ship.... no matter if TA's or other longer cruises.

Not worth the hassle to do ports... we like being on the ship especially when everybody else is gone... :D

Price is better on cruises, food is better than the all inclusive's and more variety daily. More to do on the ship than all inclusives also. I wanted to do an all inclusive this last February but the prices were coming in at $4,000, we paid $1,400 for our 8 day Freedom Promenade room. We just used the ship as an all inclusive as we did the dining and drink package and only got off the ship in St. Kitts which we had never been to.

We spent a night in San Juan last month prior to boarding the Adventure. We met a couple at the hotel who had gotten off the week before. They had done a B2B2B2B2B (35 nights on board) and said they never got off the ship until disembarkation day.

We have been on many cruises and only once did we stay on the ship the whole week. We had been to the ports on that particular cruise several times, so felt no need to get off and wander around.

I thought it was a great cruise and I would consider doing it again. I know that for my next cruise, I will stay on the ship for 2 of the 3 ports, but not yet sure of the third one. It's just very relaxing with most of the passengers off the ship.

We don't get off the ship, been there done it all, and if were not going southern Caribbean islands, the eastern/western islands are "eh" to us, a waste of time in getting off. On the Harmony last may, Oasis October 29. and leaving tomorrow on the Oasis and back on her in October, we stay on the ship!

WOW !!! That's a lot of days. Maybe in the future I would like to do a B2B but not sure about 35 days.

We do like to get off in ports we’ve visited before, even if it is just to walk the port area, get a drink at our favorite bar or snap a picture. Some ports we don’t walk around too long, but we do get off.

My HD and I probably won't get off the ship on our May 5 cruise because he injured his knee. It will be a different cruise experience for use but one I am looking forward to after reading everyone's posts .
