You're both right, I should have said "Ah, but you frequently do pay for it." For my last two HAL bookings, both made in non-promo periods soon after they became available, thus enabling us to get our cabin choice, I considered refaring to take advantage of new promos. In both cases, however, the higher fares were more than the original fares plus the cost of the perks purchased separately. As Dave said, there are lots of variables and each cruise is different.

good to know you both experienced similar......

UPDATE: Just checked, and I still haven't been credited with my onboard spending.  I haven't had a chance to type up a review, but there were several aspects to my cruises that left me wondering if I've become jaded to the whole cruise experience, or just Holland America.  I bought an FCC, but I'm not anxious to book another HAL cruise anytime soon.

How frustrating!  Yes, cruising is changing, that is for sure.  I get what you are saying.

FCC =  Future cruise consultant   (they are not offered for sale.  🙂

FCD =  Future cruise deposit.  (this we may buy)

I rather imagine HAL has it's hands pretty full right now, with the Cuba cruises being changed.

Which is exactly why we tried a Celebrity suite after many Neptune suites.

Thank you for the correction.  I though FCC was future cruise credit.

Roz,   I didn't mean to be rude, but I am quite sure hAL is not selling  future cruise consultants on board the ships.

We debarked on May 11, so HAL had plenty of time to credit me.  They gave me sailing days, but not credit for onboard spending.  Now who knows how long it will take.

Sail, no worries.  I didn't take your comment as rude at all.

I'd say that's plenty of time.  I'd give the MS a call this coming week and inquire.

I agree with Obnxshs, call the Mariner Society.

I've been checking to see how long our recent cruise would show up, and it took 5 days.  Sailing days and onboard spending all there.

AS cruising is  changing  so is much in our daily lives also changes .... that is recognizable as to how it 'used to be'

While we all have the right to comment and complain about changes we think  negative, Do we not all have a
need"  to comment  about that which is still done so well?    Most of us must   think HAL cruises are pretty  'dam ship '  wonderful..  Is that not why we continue  to book and sail and come here to CC to  share our comments ?Speaking only of my recent cruises on Zaandam.    That crew is outstanding  As hard as they all work, there were some who SO went out of their way to be especially kind, thoughtful  and friendly there is  no way  for me to adequately  thank  them  but to recognize their kindness and  and express  my appreciation  I hope I am able to return to Zaandam soon,,,  AHHHHbut I must find a way to sail Noordam and Maasdam again

Thanks for all the encouragement. 😉  The sailing days - 12 for 6 days in a Neptune and 7 for 7 days in an inside cabin - posted accurately and right away.  Onboard spending for both cruises shows -0-.  Very odd.

Roz

The -0-  could have been you spent up the amount of your OBC's and no more?

The -0-  could  mean you spent only up to  the amount of OBC which HAL provided  ..  and no more?  That would mean you spent   no money of you own with them  ?  IF that was the case

There is hope!! I just (June 9) received an email response from the Mariner Society for an email I sent on May 3 with several issues. They say "We apologize that an unexpected increase in email inquiries resulted in a delayed response time."

Sorry, I had to LOL at “unexpected”.  When people aren’t getting their credits it should be nothing less than expected!  😂

This is most unfortunate.

I know when I cannot trust the accuracy and reliability of a customer reward program, I simply chose not to participate.  HAL's is one that I do not care for - we do not monitor nor give it much value.

I also understand your left wondering if you've become jaded.   In the past several years, we have booked and cancelled several HAL cruises, something that we have never done in the past.  The motivation to step on the ships is just not there at the moment.

I wish you luck with your issue.

Happy you received a response from Mariners.

aside from their apology and 'excuse' for slow reply to you... was the  action you asked  from them completed and done well?

You earn one Mariner Day for each increment of $300 of spending (excludes casino) while on board.  This includes online HAL purchases before the cruise.  HAL is generous and rounds up to the next $300 increment.  Suites get double the normal credit days creditied (7 days in a suite earn 14 Mariner Days).  As you accumulate days, you can earn discounts on Specialty Restaurant dinners.  At the highest level of 5* Mariner (500 day credits), you receive free laundry and two free Pinnacle Grill dinners, among other benefits.

HAL excursions also count to earning Mariner Days while private excursions do not.

Hope this helps your understanding.

Just call them.  Don't wait for a reply.  After waiting for over 3 weeks for a response to my inquiry about the lack of suite credits in my history for my transatlantic on Zuiderdam in April/May, I called them.  They had the suite credits applied in 30 seconds.  It was super easy.
